  1. Georgiana, with all due respect, it isn't about spreading negativity but, spreading awareness. And it isn't about SL's business decision, it's about the way they chose to hide/deny that business decision. My issue with SL is that they aren't being forthright about this matter and that weighs in heavily with regard to whether I will do business with them in the future.
  2. I think you may be right...Judy keeps referring to much of it as "misinformation".
  3. https://www.dcsdk12.org/cs/groups/public/@webhomeed/documents/webcontent/dcs931369.pdf This pdf shows how SL marketed their product along with the Cloverleaf Home Education Program/Douglas County School District for the 20I2-I3 school year. For the 20I3/20I4 school year they are marketing their product but, using the name FlashBright by Sonlight. I find it interesting that Judy's comments with regard to this topic in the "Dear Sonlight" forum seem to deny any involvement of their product with this school. Maybe I am missing something?
  4. https://www.dcsdk12..../dcs1172572.pdf They call it BrightFlash, aka, SL.
  5. Ladies, thank you. I found the information you shared very helpful. I'm now getting a more clear picture of what BW would look like and what type of student it would serve well. I signed up for "Julie's Daily Writing Tip" and am thinking I'll actually try out some of her writing suggestions. I really do like her philosophy, I'd just have to be comfortable with a more open-ended type of writing program. Thanks, again.
  6. Hello, I am looking into writing programs for my soon to be 4th grader and have seemed to make some sort of connection with the philosophy of Brave Writer---although, I have barely scratched the surface as far as really getting to know it (or other writing programs for that matter). I am finding that the Brave Writer website is a lot to take in and I am having a hard time getting a feel for the actual day-to-day lessons---even after viewing the samples. I'd really appreciate any insight here. Thanks, Candice
  7. This might help although, I think it is regular school version not the homeschool one. http://www.nancylarsonpublishers.com/classroom/science4.html
  8. We use Reflex Math (it's a paid subscription) as well as the Flashmaster which is a hand held device for math facts practice. My daughter is kind of slow with math facts retention so she needs the additional practice beyond TT.
  9. abcmouse.com is a favorite one here. I think it is about $8 per month.
  10. Brilliant. Preparation is key, isn't it? Thank you for sharing this : ) Candice
  11. Thank you very much for your replies, I have some thinking to do :001_smile:
  12. Thanks very much, ladies! Alilac, if I may ask, how helpful and complete do you find the CLE teacher manuals? Although, BJU TM's can be too wordy and too classroom oriented, I appreciate the surplus of information and guidance. I've learned to sift pretty well. In your opinion, are the CLE teacher guides very useful and helpful? PS~I too, am a bit freaked out by all the visuals and aides that seem necessary for BJU---I'd love to avoid all that stuff and expense! Thank you!
  13. I've been using BJU for math and LA pretty consistently with my soon to be 3rd grader. I'm preparing to order both math and LA, and am now considering ordering CLE instead. I really like BJU and it works well here however, it is so pricey and I'd like to try and minimize spending if I can. I know that CLE has a good reputation and it is quite a bit cheaper. I had thought about perhaps buying BJU used or maybe not buying some of the TM's (to save money), but I truly don't want to buy used and I don't really want to use BJU without their TM's---I'm one of those weirdos that likes their rather bulky TM's. Anyway, I guess I am wanting to hear how the transition went if you did make the switch. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the bump :) And by the way, I am looking for circle time suggestions for K-2. Thank you.
  15. I'm looking for book recommendations for circle time/activities. Please share if you have any favorites. Thank you!
  16. I'm just barely getting started on this book that a friend recommended. It might be helpful for you? http://www.amazon.com/Book-Whisperer-Awakening-Inner-Reader/dp/0470372273/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331062285&sr=8-1
  17. I adore your blog, and of course, voted :)
  18. I've never used this but thought of it when I read your post... Math Lessons for a Living Education by Angela O'Dell, available through Queens Homeschool Supply (Sorry, I posted a link earlier and it didn't work right)
