  1. It's funny I never did a formal reading program but as dds get older I'm getting a bit formal with this, I'm thinking about using Figuatively Speaking for formal lit terminology etc. now and moving into formal lit. study in hs to prepare for college
  2. it really helps to hear the pos and neg side. We do have about 6 large cc's here in the area. I'm going to meet with my professor after spring break and get her advice as well. thanks so much
  3. Thanks so much, I can't wait to start, of course I have to complete the MA first : ) Chris
  4. thanks so much! Quick question, could you come over and teach it here?? : ) but really, I'm sure I'll have questions in the fall, so I might take you up on that Chris
  5. OIC, good point, thanks I think we'll try to make it work without Chris
  6. I'm not math or science orientated, but I don't want to buy it and regret the $$$ spent thanks Chris
  7. Thanks for the response, I'm hoping to work part-time only when youngest dd is in the last year of hs, then move into full-time. From what I understand part-timers get paid per class, but full-time staff is salaried and get more perks : ) I see your in CA I was hoping someone would respond from here as that is where I'll be teaching. We're down south in Orange County. thanks again Chris
  8. I'm getting my MA in English and the goal will be to teach when dds graduate, it's coming sooner than I think : ) I was just curious to know if anyone here teaches at the cc level and how you like it? thanks Chris
  9. I ordered from them and they sent my package to the wrong address, they made a typo on it. So I've emailed them 3 times at two different email account and haven't heard a word back, I can't find a phone number on their site can anyone help?? thanks Chris
  10. Totally unrelated, but I noticed you have hermit crabs. We do too, aren't they the cutest : ) Chris
  11. Absolutely, we are in California and spend the days at the beach. I love summer, we take off from July 1st till Sept. 1st. My girls are always reading, and sometimes I'll require one math lesson per week to stay fresh, but other than that we're free :)
  12. Thanks Ellie, for continuing to be a voice of reason. Like many that have posted, I will just continue on as we have been Chris
  13. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your posts I've had trouble signing up for Aleks, I think I must be doing something wrong. R&S is very solid, I wish I would have stuck with it this year, oh well, my youngest dd will benefit from oldest dds experience : )
  14. My oldest dd, aka the guinea pig of homeschooling, wasn't doing well with CD's Pre-Algebra, I've decided to dial it back and begin Pre-Algebra in the fall (she's in 7th right now). So I need to find something to use for the rest of the year (we have about 16 weeks left). I'm trying to decide between Rod & Staff 7 as she used Rod & Staff 1-6 or TT 7. I'm also trying to decide if we should go with TT pre-algebra or VT for next year. CD wasn't working for her. thanks Chris
  15. Wow, talk about timing, I was just thinking this last night ~ I really don't belong here, I never really did,and now I really don't. There are many reasons, too boring to post, but I am so thankful for this thread, because this is my favorite board, even if I don't belong : )
  16. Robin thanks so much for posting this and your other posts about TT, I too shied away from TT because of bad press, but now we are going with it. I appreciate hearing the other side : ) Chris
  17. My dd has similar goals, and is not exactly math orientated, well let me clarify last year she loved math, this year after using CD pre-algebra, she has lost all of her math self-esteem and is not so sure about the whole subject. I plan on starting her in TT7 next week and using TT Pre-algebra in 8th. I know this does not seem rigorous at all, quite the opposite, but honestly - I want her to understand math and I believe that TT will help with that. Now, if after using the TT hs levels, if my dd needs additional help, I'll enroll her in a cc class to get up to speed for college, but I think at this stage of the game having her not loathe math, having her understand it and remember why it works that way far more outweighs having her do a more rigorous math program. It won't be in the end of our world if she has to have some help later (cc class or whatever) but it would be a shame kill her dream in 7th grade. I want her to like math again, and I want her to understand what she is doing, that is my goal right now. Chris
