  1. Only the 8qt is on sale. Last year there was a 6qt for around $70? I've been tracking that one all week. I really don't want to spend $90 on any version of the IP even though this is normally over $100.
  2. I thought items that said price reduction showed during checkout regardless of how you pay, but maybe I'm thinking of similar deals. Dh bought the fan I posted a few posts up and the 25% price reduction wasn't reflected til further into the purchasing process. I don't know if it happened as soon as it got in the cart or later. I also noticed the TRU sale. I put a few items in my TRU cart and it automatically applied a 20% off deal. It brought the 3 bunk beds to $6.39, but I don't know if I'm going to buy them or not. We still need a house LOL. I am thinking of skipping the calico brand homes and getting this to assemble and paint myself: https://www.amazon.com/Greenleaf-Corona-Dollhouse-Kit-Orchid/dp/B000X4MQ6O/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1499756373&sr=8-18&keywords=dollhouse I've been eying the Calico cherry car that seats 5 (Target and TRU are similar in price after the TRU discount). The van is just so much money (7 seater). Ahh these items are so cute lol. I hope you figure out the discount thing. I would hope they would discount you for using the card.
  3. Maybe not be a "prime day" deal but I think these were more expensive last time I looked (earlier this week). Calico critters Hopscotch bunny family https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011MTFUM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. The last few times I have ordered steak it was not made correctly (seriously, Cracker Barrel. Get it together) or I had a bad experience because of my ignorance (I did NOT know that prime rib was something cooked in a gravy BLECH). Medium rare rib eye for me, thanks. Dh does not like steak so I don't really go to steakhouses and have told him that I really shouldn't bother unless we go to one.
  5. Well I think you should embrace it. I do everytime I whip out an educator card at the store
  6. I like to know if homeschoolers are included before I attend events for teachers. Like Barnes & Noble had some event we went to... I think it was specifically for homeschoolers maybe? Or maybe we were just included. I remember we were included, though because the email went out to the homeschool community and/or I called the store. The way this is marketed I would not want to show up. In general I do not like to go places where I do not feel invited.
  7. For markers I make dd (toddler) use Color Wonder. But the problem is making sure the caps get paired back with the markers and keeping them organized! I buy the Color Wonder coloring books when they are on clearance. I got some recently for 50 cents each. One year MIL got us a sharpener for the wall. We didn't care for it much and didn't want to install it on the wall or other surface like desk top. During the school year ds said the class sharpener broke or they didn't have one at all and kids were supposed to use a small one at their desk. We just donated the wall mounted one and they installed that. Hopefully it worked well enough once mounted. Ds seems to have some fine motor struggles so I don't know if he'd do well with the mini sharpeners. I bought an electric one for the house after that.
  8. Dh just ordered us this ceiling fan (ours is broken). :D https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ED7YQ06/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. currently there are Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Manga Colors, 23-Count for $8.13 but I don't know if that's even a great deal. Not that cheap looking at camelcamelcamel. It was shared as a deal, that's why I noticed it.
  10. I missed an Instant Pot deal!! :crying: On my facebook feed a site posted deals and one was for the Instant Pot 9-in-1. That wasn't even on my radar. I had been looking at the 7-in-1. Well, I noticed the post about a half hour or so after the deal was shared. The sale had expired and I asked what it had been. It had been $45. These deals are too fast!! I also followed a link to a $5 12pk of ultra fine sharpie pens but when you go to the cart it goes to full price. I refreshed that page a few times and got 3 different prices but the cart always had the high one.
  11. Businesses do throw lots of things away so it doesn't surprise me too much, but it doesn't make me less upset about it. I hear about people dumpster diving in some areas (the laws vary). I think for some items a store will save them for the following year. In other cases I guess they don't have the storage or don't want to send the items back to a warehouse or something?? Not really sure. I remember after Christmas I bought some items that had been reduced. Some items did not qualify and I think the reason was they were going to just put them out at full price the following Christmas (Family Dollar I think). Janeway, do parents have to buy supplies through the PTA? I would hate that. I am a bargain shopper and can usually stretch my money further myself for small ticket items.
  12. whoa whoa whoa so they also take some of the supplies and package them as a set to sell to incoming students? or rearrange them and sell them as just genetic "back to school" supplies sets? Either way that seems messed up.
  13. Wow. I would try to find out more and address it at a PTA meeting or something. Talk to other parents first so you know if they feel the same way. I don't think that's right. Mission trip sounds religious to me and being that it's a public school that seems like a conflict. But not just that, many parents don't want to overspend. I thought the list was overkill for ds last year (private school if it makes any difference). Like 3 containers of Clorox wipes per child? I don't know, maybe they were spread out across the school. Each boy in the class had to bring thermometer covers and girls had to bring some insect bite product. I am guessing those were for the whole school. I found the thermometer covers online and the box had a lot. Also, they had to bring a pack of paper towels. I think it was a 6pk. I looked online and the requirements for his grade have changed, but other grades have the Clorox wipes and paper towels. So yeah, I think they just did that to spread around the school. He had to bring a couple boxes of Kleenex last year but since he has allergies and got sick a couple of times I sent him with extra on occasion. He would say, "Mom, we already have tissue" and I'd say, "didn't you go through almost a whole box yourself?" lol. Over the summer I kept asking when we could drop off the supplies (they were supposed to have a day we could) but they didn't get back to me so I ended up having to help him carry all that junk inside with toddler in tow when I dropped him off. He was going to ride the school van that day and the bus driver admitted there was no room for it all. I admit I didn't send all his notebook paper to school. I just refilled his binder over time. I thought the binder was too full with all the paper, but in hindsight I should have put it in his cubby hole so he didn't run out and come home telling me two days later he'd been borrowing paper. He frequently lost track of pencils. He did get to bring home his pencil box which had some items left in it like markers.
  14. Since you started this thread I researched ibotta again. I don't know when it started but now they offer a gift card as a payment option. There are different GC choices (such as Wal-Mart and Amazon). I told dh about it and he signed up. We got an initial $10 at sign up and he scanned several receipts we had. Some were probably too old lol. Sometimes it required you to scan the product, but one guy's youtube channel I watched said you don't need to anymore so I don't know. That confused me if it was based on the receipt date or what. Anyway, he also referred his sister and she signed up so we should get some credit ($5) but I'm not sure what steps she has to complete for us to receive it. I don't know how much we'll earn using this app, but since I can't scan my Sam's receipts for Savings Catcher, I at least have an app that we can use our Sam's receipts with now. We can use the WM receipts for both apps. I don't think I mentioned Shopkick. I also use that app. It's not much, but I get a few bucks here and there. I redeem them at Target and Walmart.
  15. Ooh, came across this today: https://www.target.com/p/rolling-toy-storage-cart-with-paper-veneer-gray-circo-153/-/A-15650459 I like the look of it better than traditional library carts because the sides are deeper.
  16. That was my point, that you can still say no to people even if they do it at their house all the time. If I had adults coming over and didn't have my children in the home I do not know how I would handle it.
  17. We could always shift it to smoking cigarettes. Just because people do it in their own home doesn't mean you can't ask them not to do it in yours. And probably something I'd try to find a way to warn them about in advance as well.
  18. not illegal everywhere so is it harmful to you because of the law or because of the substance?
  19. What if it wasn't sleeping in the same room. What if it was smoking weed or walking around the house nude? "But we always walk around nude in our home!" would be irrelevant to me. Put some clothes on. I think it would be best to have the conversation before the guests made travel plans, though. Letting them know after they arrive with suitcases would probably be worse. I went to a party once where some people were inside and some were outside. I chose to stay outside because it was hosted by Japanese students and I didn't want to take off my shoes, but felt that if I went inside I should (I believe someone specifically told me that I'd need to or I witnessed others doing it). I was wearing the boots in my avatar and it was just too much trouble. Of course, I'm familiar with shoe and sleeping arrangement rules varying so none of this stuff would really faze me.
  20. I personally couldn't imagine trying to juggle a teaching job and getting up extra early to do a paper route. Unless the rest of the household was quiet I couldn't see how someone would fall asleep at 7pm. I suppose this largely depends on if the person is a morning person or not  mamashark, don't know if I missed a post or not, but maybe we could help you come up with more ideas for yourself.
  21. Ds has allergic reactions around some dogs. I definitely like to know in advance to expect a pet and I don't always think to ask if a pet will be coming along. I want to know in advance so I can give him some Claritin. One time my SIL invited ds to the beach with her family and their dogs and she wanted to pick him up immediately (we knew he had issues with one of her dogs) and I had to remind her and/or dh that Clartin doesn't work that fast. lol
  22. That's going to vary from location to location. I have worked at two newspapers. One newspaper location actually had their own press and printed papers for other papers. Well, for the Monday-Friday editions we plated the pages in the morning. I didn't come into work til 8 am and they were coming off the press around 10-11am I think. So there's no way anyone was delivering them at 6 am. Another paper I worked for only had a weekly edition.
  23. The dog rule bothered my in-laws. They would instead drive to see us and head back right away as to not leave the dog alone long. And technically there was someone that could check on the dog (their daughter or a friend). It was a bit of an issue. I said maybe the dog could stay in the mostly enclosed carport (there were holes in the brick design on one side but otherwise it had been closed off like a garage) but dh said that the dog always came indoors and that wouldn't work. They do not have a pet now (dog passed away) and I think it's ironic that dh got a cat for our home and expected his parents to let us bring our cat. I said that was not fair. His mom was very accommodating about it in the end (initially acting like what? you want to bring the cat?), but since then we've got a food and water dispenser and hope to never bring her with us again. It's a real hassle and the cat gets super agitated and refuses to cooperate to get in the carrier. Personally I think that pet owners should not expect others to welcome their animals. Dh didn't understand that my parents wouldn't want the cat inside their home, even in the carrier. That's why I said I didn't like to make stops with the cat. I didn't' want to have to leave the car running long and I couldn't take her inside. We have a no smoking rule here and guests smoke outside. Ideally further from the door so it doesn't waft in. This has been a prickly topic as well because the smoke clings to everything. Family doesn't visit often though. We recently ran into an issue where we wanted to visit family for the 4th but the only family member's home with room is a home where the whole house smells like smoke. I don't think they realize how strong the smoke smell is. They try to smoke outdoors, but the smoke has taken over the home. We didn't say anything, but I can barely breathe in there and have two young children, one with asthma so that was a deal breaker. Your home, your rules.
  24. I'm sorry creekland. Maybe you can share some stories with her to give her hope. My grandma had cancer a few times. One time she had surgery (breast cancer). The other time(s) it was too dangerous to do surgery because of her age. I know for the skin cancer she applied different things (maybe made dietary adjustments as well) including frankincense. After a while the dr could see no signs of it. They said she had cancer in her jaw which was probably contributing to her having difficulty eating and swallowing for a while. But then they couldn't detect it anymore so I don't know if that means they were wrong initially or if it cleared up. I'm venting because dh refuses to take dd to her early intervention appointment. I got them to shift the appt. later so I don't have to move my dental appointment and I can still take her that day when the evaluation team will be available. I guess I'll be making 2-3 trips to that town that day since the kids also have a follow up appt. with their optometrist. I'd send dh with the kids to the optometrist, but I kinda feel like I should be there.
  25. I have a toddler, but I don't think I'd pay for music lessons at this age, personally. Does he build things? Maybe he could do orders on the side. Not necessarily an etsy shop, though you could go that way. For example, custom book shelf. I was just posting about these cool book troughs I saw online and how they are too much money. Some people are making their own. I saw the same thing with other book storage. Some people were making the kind that hang on the wall out of repurposed pallets.
