  1. Well, I gues it's what mushy means to you:D I like them soft, still formed. Anything remotely close to applesauce, or if they loose their shape....me no like:glare:
  2. I really dislike mushy apple pie.:) I pre-bake my pie shells and this way the apples don't overcook and turn mushy. How long are you cooking it for?
  3. Our school district allows HS'ers to take classes, try out for sports teams and everything they offer. As far as a Diplomas, you need to be appointed a guidance counselor and they approve classes they will give your child credits for. The only in school requirment is, that you get 1/2 the credits from the school.
  4. Depth it one thing TOG does not lack:D It's like WTM on steroids.
  5. I got my hands on an Atner Guide, looks good.
  6. My niece sounds similar to the girl you speak of;). My SIL took her to an Endocrinologist and everything was fine. She has extremely low body fat and under a certain percentage girls will have a delayed cycle. She finally got a regular cycle at 16. Even now if she is in her sport season (cross country) she will completely lose her cycle until she is off season. The Dr. assures MIL it's totally typical and normal.
  7. We had a school room, but I took great liberties during a re-mod, that's what my dh says anyways:). Our room is a dove grey color, I have a round desk for my older two and a a smaller one against the wall for my younger dd near Manny, the Guinea Pig, she whispers sweet nothings to him. I also have another storage room with shelves (the closed door to the right of the bathroom). I keep the history books not in our current rotation, and books I need to save for the next kiddo. I really like the new set up, I'm much more comfy. I'll attach some pic's.
  8. I think as long as your child is happy, what's the harm? My SIL is forever telling her 17 year old dd to go out because, she would rather hang out and watch movies, read a book, make cookies and anything that has to do with being at home. So to make my SIL happy she goes out, and comes to MY house where she hangs out, watches movies, and will sit by the pool with me and read a book. Oh, and last night she made yummy scallion pancakes, and we all watched Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. Same kids, different house:D
  9. I am a firm believer that young kids really NEED to be guided and taught fundamental concepts from every subject. It's to easy to let them do math on their own when it is computer based thus, missing great opportunities to steer them from bad or incorrect math habits. I am not a big fan of computer programs used solely as a basal math program for the young. But, moving on from here, I would really start at the beginning moving quickly through concepts mastered and having one-on-on through the others. Introduce daily drill on those mastered concepts while moving onto others. The question is, do you want him to be prepared for some standardized testing, some great programs will not fit the bill because of the non- traditional scope and sequence. Do you want manipulative based? Are you concerned with price? Will you be doing the teaching?
  10. We have been doing a timeline for a while here. I made them, but they are similar to SL's Book of Time, my are done in Landscape. I make it pretty easy. They put the timeline figure in their book, but they draw around the picture (outline) in a different color. We outline them like this; American History is blue, Wars in black, ALL other history is green, ALL arts performing and visual are brown, Science including Inventors are yellow, ALL religion is red with a second line in the same color around Christian related events. I want to add, that we made it this simple because quite honestly the kids will NOT remember the colors. And this mad it easy being there were so few. The goal for us was to see ALL of history in one timeline.
  11. Our oldest is a competitive soccer player, 2 clubs and a town team. She has practice 4 nights a week and 2 games every weekend. She LOVES it and when everyone took a break around Christmas, she asked if I could find another league:001_huh:. Last year I requested a meeting with that Student of Pupil services and brought to her attention, the talent my daughter has as well as several written letters from her current coaches. I explained how she would love to represent her hometown through school sports, but we did not find that a ready option. Well, they changed the wording in the homeschooling packages stating ALL children living in the District are allowed to tryout for competitive sports at school. I have to get her health records and make sure she is signed off by the school nurse and she will be able to play, while being homeschooled!
  12. You can view it here. Fridays Fine Arts takes place in the History/Science time slot.
  13. In the first semester its 2 days history, 1 day science both in 2 hour blocks. Second semester is 1 day history, 2 days science again in two hour blocks. I can send you a copy of my schedule for a visual if you want.:)
  14. Hey, I got your PM and PM'd you back!:001_smile: I schedule 1- 2 hour block for history, 2-2 hour blocks for science and 1-2 hour block for Fine Arts (Art Appreciation , Composer Study, Art Class) then we have 1 lighter day.
  15. My 6th grader is doing the timeline, it's so quick, painless. Oh ya, in the Cool History pages is a simple hands-on suggestion for the youngers too!
  16. So far, I do like it, very much. I feel like, it's a VERY streamlined version of TOG. With a lot of SL book req's and a History spine. You have an option of using SOTW, MOH as a spine or even Streams of Civ. for older kiddos all scheduled for you. I like that its not a TON of books. I like that it really takes a couple of hours to complete history for the week with NO prep. I felt they knew just as much from today's class as they have shown from TOG. Part of my reason for leaving TOG was when they went to Digital, and how it is not resellable. That was a ton of money to drop and not get back, ever on the TMs. I had spent over $800 on some years for only 2 levels. BP also has hands-on suggestions in the Cool History pages. It's not as pretty as TOG, but I don't find one being superior to the other, at least not yet. If feels like I am doing WTM, as it should be done, without prep, cost or a learning curve. Don't get me wrong, TOG gets easier as you use it, and you HAVE to give yourself permission not to do it all. I like that BP is manageable, I can easily see being able to do it as written. We'll see in a few months.:D
  17. Dates are on them:D It is so convenient!
  18. I did. I had timeline books for them. I printed out the figures on Avery white sticky paper. I have a pocket folder and I am just moving it to each week as we go through the figures. Honestly, I think placing them on the book took 10 minutes.:D
  19. Oh thats good they are doing them for ALL years. It's funny I am pretty confident about Math and Science. History is where I flounder. I have tried it ALL and sadly I go through a wonderful honeymoon phase, get disenchanted, read the WTM again and then say, " Why am I making it so hard". For some reason I like lesson plans, so SOTW was too loosey goosey for me and I would write up weekly plans. TOG was time too time consuming even though I held on for almost 3 years. SL is by far my favorite in book selections but the readings get me bogged down, and quite honestly if I stop moving I fall asleep...lol Then MFW, I found myself adding so much from SL, that is when I switched to SL. I was going to just use ATTA and Atners, but I found myself looking for maps, writing up lessons, and I stopped. I saw a post from Soph the Vet, and she made it seem so easy. So I bought it. Although this was our first week it's was painless, and the kids knew the answers to the questions, did map-work, put the timeline pieces in their books, and outlined a page. We did it in less than 2 hours. History is done for the week..check!:)
  20. I bought the Bundle for Year 3 e-book. I just assumed it came with all years, I could be wrong, maybe someone with the other years could chime in. The Cool History pages are questions that corresponds to the SOTW readings. It's like having narration questions all done out. Then at the bottom of the Cool History pages are bonus questions, those excerpts that answer them are in the parent companion and ALL the answers are conveniently located in the Parent Companion. It was just so easy, pick up and go. I am ashamed to admit I even added SOTW in audio because I was getting bogged down with readings. Now all I have is the family read-aloud and everyone is together. Had I known it would have been this easy.....
  21. So I decided to start Y3 Bibilioplan. I played SOTW 3 Audio Ch. 1, while this was playing the kids did the corresponding map. The two olders did the cool history question sheet along, while listening. Afterward I read from the Parent Companion, asked questions. Then the two older kids did an outline the younger did a narration page and illustrated it and everyone added the timeline figures to their time-lines. I scheduled a 2 hour block. We completed everything and they responded well. It was hardly any work on me. I handed them the books they need to read during the week. It that really it? :confused:This was WAAAYYYY to easy!
  22. This was my first year of studying American History separate from World History. We didn't like it so we are going back to studying it in the context of World History. I have also decided to do a State Study alongside to fulfill my district requirment.
