  1. I have found it easy to use. You can reserve books from other libraries in the state, which includes university libraries which can be helpful for some things. And its without charge. The reserve system is nice as you have 7 days to pick them up. I don't know how it works in the Palmer area though.
  2. This is our second year of homeschooling. I have four children, though only two are actively home schooled, ages 9 and 10. The other two are 1.5 and 4. We seem to be having an issue of motivation. They are able to do the work. We have tried multiple things on how to get work done. I print them out a list every day. They have about 4 things that have to be done with me. The rest is reading and copywork. I list out all the little things. I do my part with them right after lunch, as I have found I can have the required level of patience at that time. If I try and work with them at 9am, I am way too short tempered with them. But the issue is that their work should take them about 5.5 hours. They are taking all day, and all day meaning from 9am to 7pm...and are still not getting done. They can, as they have, but its far and few in between. This isn't work that they can't get. Most of that type of work is done with me and takes less than 3 hours with me (math, spelling, grammar, writing, history, science). So what is going on? Anyone have this issue? How do you resolve it? I do not reward with food, as food is such an issue in our house anyways, that I will not add in the dynamic of food being a reward thing. Hope that all made sense. But, I am stumped...I don't know what the deal is honestly.
  3. Second the Buck Denver, its called "Whats in the Bible with Buck Denver." Very cute but they go through an overview of each book through various things. There are lots of DVD's. Instead of buying the DVD's I subscribe to jellytelly.com for $5 a month
  4. I don't know if this would be a help, but I have seen different apps on teacher websites that give a decibel measuring. For those kids that just don't always know they are being loud, maybe something visually would help them see exactly how loud they are. I don't know if it would work, but it might be adaptable to something like this. http://toonoisyapp.com/ https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/silent-light-classroom-timer/id657863900?mt=8 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myclassrules-noise-monitor/id538737971?mt=8 I know some of these apps have other functions, but I assume you could ignore those and just use the noise meter.
  5. I have two children who I started homeschooling last year, but as I was unsure of where they were at with anything school wise, I just started a lot of things at the beginning, like grammar. But I am not really sure if I should continue with that train of thought or skip them ahead. I have been using FLL, so I am wondering if I should just skip to their age level or just keep going through the books from the beginning? Any thoughts or suggestions? Edit: Ages 9 and 10, going into grades 3 and 4
  6. Sequence is fun. I have two older girls who can play the game and with my 4 year old, I just have her match her card to the board. She has actually won the game doing that with no strategy! Fun game. We also like Set. My little ones likes to play along as well though she mainly just says "set" and nothing else.
  7. Hello! I like Saxon math for the way it works and the memorization factor and the repetition and all that. I like Saxon, but I have a crazy schedule and with the attitudes that sometimes creep in, I find that math is getting put to the side for the days, and just doesn't get completed that day so we are behind in math. What I want is something like Saxon, but that my girls can complete independently. I know they will need my help, but with the majority of it being independent. I borrowed TT and one girl is flying through it, but I worry about her retention of the material. She has finished about 30 lesson from Saxon 3, but is flying through TT4. Is there something either book or computer based that is like Saxon level comparison, but is more independent? And does Saxon become more independent after level 3 when you enter into 5/4? Or Intermediate 4? Or would even using the Saxon teacher work like this for me?
  8. I had also noticed there wasn't a Primer B either. I am thinking of having a child start this program this year too. Have you emailed the company on potential dates for B?

  10. Wanting to know as well as I will have one child starting with Koine Greek this year too. So far the NT is the only thing I can think of.
  11. I have seen several different discussion topics that say to check out paulasarchives or redshift (same site, I think?) but the link isn't working. Does anyone know of any different plans available?
  12. I have two girls who are 2nd and 3rd grade so I am using the same level for both of them. I alternate questions for them as well, though sometimes not a "true alternation" as I know one will likely do better on one question than the other. As far as narration, I have my 2nd grader go first, as I know she'll just repeat my 3rd graders answer, but I know my 3rd grader will purposely come up with something different than her sister, just because.
  13. It is good to take a look and see what the advantages and disadvantages are. I know you mentioned all the things that she is missing out on at school (some good and some bad), but also think about all the things she'd miss out on if she was at school. All that time with you for one! An intimate knowledge of exactly what your daughter is learning; not having to wonder. I agree with what has been said, go back to why you started and keep that in mind as you wrestle with the doubts.
  14. I have book looking into this. I don't even really know where to start with her on comprehension, as far as I can tell, she has virtually zero. She is a second grader, would you start her out in Grade 1 or 2?
