  1. @Teaching3bears do you mind sharing what region of the US you live in? I am seeing this a bit too--people declaring they are "done" with social distancing, stores seem crowded, etc. but I am not sure yet how prevalent this idea is. I try to remember that sometimes the most vocal people on FB don't represent the majority. I am concerned though.
  2. I purchased this. I hope it works out! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393961451/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. I have a paperback by Dover Thrift but I think I need an annotated edition. Can someone recommend one? I may have ordered the wrong one. Ideally I would like it to have annotations at the bottom of each page but if they are in the back that is good too. Thanks in advance.
  4. I worked in the yard a tiny bit. The family went to the park with the dog (I sprained my ankle Friday so none of that for me). I tried to get some reading for history done. Then I started some laundry, did a workout that was safe for my ankle, and now I am trying to get the kids away from the screens to play a game. It started raining outside a couple hours ago or I would at least sit outside. Normally we would grill out around this time but there wasn't ground beef on sale like normal, so pork loin is on the menu tonight. It's a weird weekend for sure!
  5. https://snacksafely.com/2020/05/the-fda-has-relaxed-labeling-requirements-under-covid-19-what-it-means-for-the-food-allergy-community/?fbclid=IwAR1CVHRvehW1m_A_Xfnmez8XjPnPPNEE7eVxST2kLerCxPgqQoH0HRaL2Q0 This article explains some of the other implications, like the possible replacement of an oil with a refined peanut oil because the FDA does not consider that to need labeling.
  6. Bump for today. This is important for people to see.
  7. I got a Xyron when I was scrapbooking 2000 years ago 😃 so I could make stickers out of things and you can also put in a laminating cartridge in it. It's not a heat lamination, so possibly not as strong, but it has worked. I also use it for recipe cards. If I hadn't started out with it, I would have bought a laminator as the others did. I am seriously jealous of Plum's pretty spiral bound stuff! I have to go to Office Max to get that done. 😃
  8. I'm so sorry. My friend's son has a mustard allergy and it is such a pain for this same reason.
  9. This. I have a friend whose child has EOE and corn is a big problem.
  10. https://www.fda.gov/food/cfsan-constituent-updates/fda-announces-temporary-flexibility-policy-regarding-certain-labeling-requirements-foods-humans?fbclid=IwAR27_ejhHZqzt3IRnbnyVKfebbRK7Dz0iviBLrdUjF19NVpx0OyO1p2SW70 First, the FDA is providing flexibility for manufacturers to make minor formulation changes in certain circumstances without making conforming label changes, such as making a change to product ingredients, without updating the ingredient list on the packaged food when such a minor change is made. For purposes of this guidance, minor formulation changes should be consistent with the general factors listed below, as appropriate: Safety: the ingredient being substituted for the labeled ingredient does not cause any adverse health effect (including food allergens, gluten, sulfites, or other foods known to cause sensitivities in some people, for example, glutamates); Quantity: generally present at 2 percent or less by weight of the finished food; Prominence: the ingredient being omitted or substituted for the labeled ingredient is not a major ingredient in the product; Characterizing Ingredient: the ingredient being omitted or substituted for the labeled ingredient is not a characterizing ingredient; for example, omitting raisins, a characterizing ingredient in raisin bread; Claims: an omission or substitution of the ingredient does not affect any voluntary nutrient content or health claims on the label; and Nutrition/Function: an omission or substitution of the labeled ingredient does not have a significant impact on the finished product, including nutritional differences or functionality. Specific examples are contained in the guidance. For example, an ingredient could be temporarily reduced or omitted (e.g. green peppers) from a vegetable quiche that contains small amounts of multiple vegetables without a change in the ingredient list on the label. Substitution of certain oils may temporarily be appropriate without a label change, such as canola oil for sunflower oil, because they contain similar types of fats.
  11. Is there someplace I can access data on hospitalizations (by day and trends)? I found an article in a local FL newspaper that has that data, so it must be somewhere. Maybe it's right in front of me?
  12. @Ktgrok what is the best way for me to stay abreast with Florida's numbers? I am so used to Ohio's website with 21 day trends, etc. I couldn't find that on FL's website but maybe I just don't know where to look?
  13. I think I am more likely to go to my counselor if I want further input. I just don't think the elder and I are on the same page as far as perceived risk with COVID, and because of that, I think we are also going to see the perceived potential consequences very differently.
  14. No, they don't know. But the elder didn't respond to my concerns about getting sick while out of state at all, so maybe he didn't give that aspect thought. I really haven't seen my mom in about eight weeks. I had to drive my dad to a auto repair shop to get his car the other day and that is the first time I have actually seen her. She is so medically vulnerable (she has an open wound on her back that she has had since july 2019) that I have not been physcially with my parents. That said, I want to be available if they need me.
  15. I thought that was interesting also. My husband told me the other day about a CDC report about influenza (??) that basically indicated that handwashing and cleaning surfaces had a very minimal affect on reducing the spread. I felt like that just strengthened the argument that shared spaces (plane, house, etc.) were more of a concern, but I haven't looked into this with any depth.
  16. We had done The Elements earlier, so actually what we did was Middle School Chemistry first and then Carbon Chemistry. There is some overlap between Middle School Chemistry and The Elements. The Elements is more game/group oriented. Since Middle School Chemistry is much more supply intensive and teacher-intensive for you, I would vote to do it first, followed by The Elements. 😃
  17. They are open and FYI, they have always been open for hiking. They just haven't been open for camping or boating until May 21st. A friend's family goes hiking at least once a week at Caesar Creek and has ever since the original stay at home order. 😃
  18. Two of them were his personal doctors: his pulmnologist and general practice (GP) doctor. Presumably they looked at his chart? I hope so? My understanding is that the Sarcoidosis is not really a concern. However, that still leaves about five other things (or more) that they are apparently also considering to be trivial. I did tell the elder/doc about all the issues. He wasn't phased. DH's reasoning is simply that the risk is low. His impression is that given current restrictions that we will have essentially no chance of getting it on the vacation. Even the doc I talked to today seemed to think that as long as we washed hands and didn't touch our faces we would be okay (I did not argue with him about it, I didn't see the point). I am a lot more skeptical about the ongoing compliance of people. I am seeing a lot of people breaking social distancing, and we are only a couple weeks into opening up. I am watching the numbers to see if there is an effect. If there is, then my position is strengthened. If not, I would think my dh's would be.
  19. At my husband's suggestion, I called an elder at our church who is also a medical doctor. He agrees with my dh that the risk is low. He thinks that people are being pretty good about social distancing, masking, etc. So far that is three medical doctors don't think it's a big deal. Why can't I feel peace about it? I was up praying much of last night, asking God to show me where I was going awry with this--where I might be a slave to fear. The elder suggested that we pray together and try to hear each other better. So I could use prayer that we would do that.
  20. Any reason I could come up with would be a guess. I have no idea. He wouldn't say other than I was just being unreasonable to refuse to go. Maybe because this also means that I won't see my brother's family.
  21. I never said this. I told him that he and the kids were welcome to go without me.
  22. Do you mean in general? i normally do all cooking and grocery shopping even on vacation but he can cook just fine. He is capable of caring for sick people but normally that falls to me. He can and does pack for himself. he has a tendency to catch most things that go through our house. If the kids were sick I would come down to help get them home i
  23. I appreciate your input and can only ask for prayer. If the path was clear, I would not be on here polling you all if that makes sense. I have been praying about this daily for weeks and my comfort level with going has not changed despite knowing he will be upset. I will continue to pray.
