  1. Mine always overflow, too, and they get a Wmart bag.  lol  Games for game systems and other big ticket (to me, anyway) items were always a separate gift.

Boxes of raisins, socks and underwear were always in our stockings when I was a kid.

    Here are some idea lists:

Warm socks, hats, gloves, and fleece blankets take up a fair amount of space!

  2. Bottles of vanilla, if you start now.  Run a knife point down the side of 3 vanilla beans and add the beans to a cheap liter bottle of vodka.  Leave in a dark cabinet til close to Christmas.

    Granola

    Sugar scrubs

    fleece blankets

    Pillowcases

  3. I gave mine to my sister who was watching her budget, and she had it cut down a bit for her.  So, used twice, too, and I'm betting she moved it on.  Not much of a sentimental bone in her body.

I do still have the tea length one I wore the second time.  I should probably see how well Oxyclean works on old spots.  :(  That one would probably fit!

  4. It's hard to see my baby boys growing up and moving out. My oldest moved out but you know I was happy for him. I enjoyed the time I had and the memories I will forever hold of my little boys and am so very thankful for every moment. It's time to let them go. I worry about him and he has some things to figure out still but he is going to be okay. We don't see him much so I make Sunday our family day and make a point of letting him know when dinner will be ready and he comes over. I am hoping to keep it tradition to always have the kids back for dinner on Sundays. My second son will be moving out in a year or so and same thing I enjoyed and am so thankful for the time I had with him but will be happy for him to go out and be independent and continue on his journey of life and all that it holds.

I know.  I'm thinking I"ll have to start the Sunday dinners to see them all regularly when they're out.  My middle is just moving out--trying it out, he says.  I really hate it when dh and all three kids are gone.  Somehow I can't get started getting things done.  I feel in limbo.

  5. Winter's been so long here that that beach idea sounds so nice and soothing!! More so than the baby birthing. lol Praying all goes well, Julie!

Well, dh has been gone working all day. He said something about BBQing tonight... Took dd and friend to McD for lunch so I could get an iced coffee, and have been online or cleaning off kitchen counters and cleaning out the cabinets with papers in them. Telling dd to put out the fire she started before asking, to take down her brother's tent she didn't ask to use.... :) Better get back to those papers that are now all over the kitchen. lol Tomorrow dh is heading out with a friend for the morning, and I guess dd and I will go visit my folks and maybe do a bit of shopping/lunch with mom.

  6. Well, I voted after 13. Which is most makeup. I let her start with mascara a couple months before 13 because we went to a mother-daughter MK party where the girls got to try it. I remember just wanting mascara when I started, so I said okay. She's had Bonne Bell lip balms and such for years, along with nail polish thanks to sils and such. Holding off on any other makeup for at least another year if I can.

  7. My dad actually washed all the windows inside and out when they stayed a week when dd was born. My mom took care of all the meals, older kids, and general pick up after each c-section/birth. All I had to take care of was the baby.

Sounds like you're a wonderful mil, even giving her some time alone/when you're gone!

  8. My boys are slightly older and sports seems to be another codename for socialization here. I get asked sometimes if they are in cub soccer or other team sports. My kids are interested in golf and bowling, not much of socialization aspect there.

Our co-op went bowling once a month in the cold winter months when they couldn't play outside. I'm sure you could find some likeminded homeschool families for that. And there are probably some golf classes through the local club?? If you wanted them.

I agree, that with the ages of your kids, now is not the time! I'd vote for 7 or 8, too, if you want to get her started in sports. My boys got started then and were done with sports by 8th grade, tho younger ds joined the high school football team and track his junior year. And our co-op had the kids playing sports informally as a group weekly, so they did get exercise. Dd started at 7 or 8, and is still in basketball, soccer and ballet (a more modest once a week til a month or so before performance time, when she has 3 practices a week; plenty in my mind! She's not planning to go professional ;) ). She seems to be my real athlete and will probably continue.

No one says your dd couldn't learn some ball throwing and kicking with dad along with the other playground activities! :)

  9. You could start with soap carving... Bars of ivory. I will tell you that in talking to real woodcarvers, that the sets of tools you get at Michael's and such aren't very good, and that you can spend a lot of money on good tools. And check online, there might be directions for making wooden tools to use with the soap carving. Tried to get my oldest into woodcarving at about that age, but it never took. :(

And make sure his knife is sharp--dull ones are the ones they get hurt with, and carve away from your body. One of the first things the Cub Scouts teach is knife safety.
