  1. Yes, that is exactly what I am trying to do, I want to put their piano practice on just like the other school assignments. I will try that and see if it works.
  2. I am going to order Voyages in English for my 6th and 8th grade sons and I am not sure if I really need the $100 teacher manuals. If you are using Voyages, do you use the manual?
  3. Wow, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with the program. I really like it so far but I am a little frustrated that when you have a question there is no one to ask other than putting in a request to their tech support. They emailed me to say that there will be a forum in the near future where this will be possible but I need questions answered now, not in the middle of the school year.
  4. Does anyone know if it is possible to make repeating assignments?
  5. You are so lucky to have a mom who is willing to spend time with your children. I think when you aren't used to having little children it is probably a little overwhelming taking them and she just wasn't thinking. It sounds like it was a mistake. Also, maybe she thinks you are such a great mom you would have something special planned. I guess she thinks pretty highly of you.
  6. I am still trying to find a science program for my 8th grader. He used BJU last year and doesn't want to use it again. I asked him what he wants and he said he wants something really deep, with a lot of information, more facts and less fluff. We were planning on earth science and he is particularly interested in astronomy. I am wondering if he needs something more on a high school level. I would appreciate any suggestions/advice. Thanks!
  7. I have a lot of weight to lose and I would like to try a LCHF diet. Can you tell me where to get the best information? Atkins? Is there an app you use? Thanks!
  8. We are going to be staying in a small house/cabin for four days with my mom and step-father. He is in his late 80's and not in the best of health. We get along well with them and spend a good amount of time together but in small doses. I am worried about my rather, um, spirited boys. I am worried about them arguing or getting impatient or just irritating them because they are older and we will be together all day and evening. We will probably be going out and doing some hiking, rafting and other activities during the day and will be eating our meals together. If you have been in this situation I would really appreciate suggestions.
  9. I think a lot of people think of their house as an investment, and a house in a nice neighborhood is maybe more likely to hold its value or increase in value. And I agree with Rebecca VA about the schools in a good neighborhood. Sounds like they believe they are spending their money on their children, indirectly through their house and neighborhood, while investing for their future.
  10. Has anyone been able to generate assignments on the Well Planned Day program? I was able to make a lesson plan but cannot generate assignments.
  11. If you school year round, are all of your courses at the same point? Do you still schedule by week 1, week 2, etc? If not is it difficult to make sure you are not falling behind in a course or not finishing it within a year, or does that not matter?
  12. We could just concentrate on the unfinished classes until they are complete and then start our new school year late, with all classes on the same schedule. Because this is the only way we have ever scheduled, I was just curious if anyone does it differently and how that works for them. I would think with all of the year round schooling that people are talking about, maybe they have subjects that are on different completion schedules.
  13. I am a nurse and haven't worked in a while so I had to go back to school for the spring semester this year to get my license back. I am finished but the boys have not finished some of their subjects from last year. Some are completed but the others are at different points. I have never started a year where we aren't beginning everything together. We use the file folders from the giant weekly folder thread and that has worked really well for us, although I put each subject in its own weekly folder. So I am trying to decide how this will work, if we just keep going with math in week 32 and grammar in week 28 or whatever, each subject will end at a different time and we would be starting the next level of each at a different time. Does anyone schedule like this?
  14. My son would love to talk about this. He is playing A & A on the floor right now!
  15. She is your step-daughter, you said your marriage is important to you so your step-daughter should be too, and when your children are older I hope you still see the need to offer them familial support. This makes me so sad.
  16. Has anyone used Write Guide? I am considering having my eighth grader and sixth grader share an account so each would submit an assignment every other day, not sure if that would be enough though. It says you tell the instructor what writing assignments you want the children to work on so I guess you still need some type of writing program. If you have used Write Guide, please tell me how it worked for your family.
  17. Can you tell me what program you think is the best prep for high school essay writing? I remember how many essays my older boys wrote for ap classes and I am trying to decide how best to prepare my eighth grader now. I am not a writer and this is one class I think he might do better with an online class or something where he has input from someone else. Thanks!
  18. Could you have the item delivered wherever you are going on vacation? I have had really good experiences with having deliveries to my hotel.
  19. No, I don't think it was Cindy Marsh but I am checking out her website to see if there is anything that might be helpful. Have your children taken classes with her?
  20. I have been thinking about how much writing my older boys were required to do for high school and I think it would be a good idea for my younger boys to take a really good writing class now to prepare them. I am a math/science person and I feel like they would be better prepared by an outside class. They are 14 and 11. Do you have any suggestions? Also, I heard about a writing program a few years ago (but I can't remember the details) that you chose writing assignments, possibly that went along with whatever you were studying, and sent it back and forth with an instructor. That seemed interesting to me and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a program like that.
  21. I would try to speak with someone again or try another Apple store. We only have Macs and we have had several things repaired without any charge, even out of warranty. I have never seen a company that is so willing to make the customer satisfied. They repaired my son's laptop for free when he spilled something on it. I hope they are able to help you.
  22. I don't know of any stores but a friend of mine has just started the Frederick Homeschool Community https://www.homeschool-life.com/sysfiles/member/index_public.cfm?memberid=985
  23. I just signed up for my teacher discount card today at Jo-Ann and they are having a special 20% discount today. I am trying to order online but don't know how to use the card online. Does anyone know how to do this?
  24. I was hoping for some exercise recommendations. I have gained 30 pounds in the last 12 months over the weight I have been for the last 10 years. It has been a very stressful year! I would like a dvd that doesn't have complicated routines that are difficult to keep up with if you are not very coordinated. I am fine with a hard workout.
