  1. Bicep tendon pain woke me multiple times last night :( I am enjoying an ice bag and ibuprofen with my morning decaf. Joy.

I will go for a walk later, assuming the rain stops at that point. If not, I'll go to the gym for the bike.

I know exactly how you feel.    I tried WO yesterday but couldn't get into it and it was a super busy day.   I'm going to try to get something in today but light and easy and careful.     I hate waiting a long time to get an appointment, I just want to know right now.      I just have to remember that it's impossible to prevent all injuries.  Better to prehab as much as possible to mitigate future potential injury.

    Still sucks though.

    Happy day everyone.   Stay safe!

  2. Snickerdoodle- Get it checked out!  I can't tell you the relief it was to hear that, yes it is sprained, but no- ligaments did not tear any bone fragments off.  The new and extra pain was all my arthritis flaring just from keeping it held still.

I'll pray for good news of any sort for you....

Practiced grappling one armed with my 7 yo. this a.m.  He is awesome!  I now know I'll be able to wrap down my right arm against my body and grapple in class this week. WHOOOOOOhooOOOO.

Tonight: martial arts class followed by kettle bell class.

Other than that this continues to be an easy week without much working out .  I stayed in bed till 7:00 a.m. this morning dozing. 8 hours of sleep.... As a result I feel like a super hero this morning.

Yes, I saw my primary who referred me out to an orthopedist but I'm also worried about a tear.   I'm hoping it's just tendinitis.  Thanks for your thoughts.  It's hard not to feel low about it.

  3. Interesting article on exercise & injuries. "We’re going to work out. We’re going to stay active and move our bodies and challenge our limits, but we don’t want to get injured. How do we limit these injuries? How do we make good choices?"

I need to read this. Thanks.

This morning I walked to and from the gym for my training session. Rotator cuff muscular issue is progressing nicely (my range of pain-free motion increases every day), thought the trainer called me out on favoring the owie shoulder. He says thst corresponding trap is overcompensating. I need to roll it well before each stretching session and have dh give me a massage each night. I can get behind that :D

Glad to hear you are getting better.

It means you crank up the oldies music, flap and dance around the house while your children stare at you with mixed facial expressions. :D You can also dare them to match your awesome dance moves.

Yes, it means all the friends want to come over, lol.

Sunday's Easter feast and chocolate has left me in withdrawals.  More coffee pronto!

Caffeine!  Why am I doing this again?

I haven't been able to do much for the past week because of company, but today I got in a 3 mile run and then this afternoon I did 45 mins of yoga.  Tomorrow I'm having my gallbladder tested, so not food or drink till I'm done (apt at 11:00!) I'm not going to be a happy person.  If I recover from it all I go for a run in the afternoon.

How did the test go?  When will you find out?

2 mile walk with dh.  But no time for anything else- these pesky adult responsibilities of life do take time...

Went to ortho about my elbow- just 3 more weeks of stretching only and then I can slowly work back into building strength and my normal craziness as it tolerates.  I am SOOO relieved!  I almost kissed the poor man.  I also had to laugh because he looked so bewildered when he asked how it happened and I said, "arm-bar and then body-weight work".  My gray hair confounded expectations again:)

    Lucky you!  THat's great news.

I'm still here but I haven't WO since Monday.   I need to figure out what's wrong with my shoulder and started the ball rolling with that.    :(

I think I will take a break till next week, where I will start again everything that doesn't require my shoulder which for me... free-cool-smileys-268.gif

  4. If you've never tried sardines before and you want to, don't buy sardines in water.  That's disgusting.   Buy the ones packed in extra virgin olive oil.   I've tried a bunch of different ones but I always go back to the King Oscar brand.     Also if you get a chance, try Bar Harbor brand.  which is exceptional except that they are boneless and skinless.

Thursday morning- hour session workout with trainer followed by katas and Thai combo practice.  Trainer wants me to go to ortho to see how bad my elbow sprain is... grrrr!  Not what I wanted him to say.

<<<Rieshy>>>   That sucks.   Elbows are nothing to mess around with.

  6. I did Jessica Smiths Cardio Flow this morning. It was supposed to be a gentle calming type workout I think. Too bad all the kiddos were up & misbehaving! I kept yelling-stop that! Don't touch your sister! Put that down! Turn off that water now! Kinda ruined the vibe. Plus the workout was a little hard for me. It was pretty easy to modify but I felt a little discouraged that I couldn't keep up-fitness level or coordination. At least I tried right?

So hard to WO with the kids bickering or getting into things.    Ugh.

Sleep is a wonderful, wonderful thing.   Today is my first day caffeine free (feel my pain).  I've been weaning these last weeks.  Drinking herbal tea right now (not the same) and thinking of tonight's wonderful night of sleep.

Today:   WO stretch roll and  laundry.     Wait, what?

  7. Today my oldest turned 21, and my oldest son got his driver's permit.  I'm feeling a bit old.......

OMG it's so bittersweet to see them grow up, isn't it?

I love watching capoeira- such strength and control.

Snickerdoodle- I incorrectly assumed that choosing not to test on Saturday (with my arm in a sling) would help draw less attention to my injury but I've been hassled by everyone for not testing.  It's all good natured, but eek.   The trainer checks my elbow tomorrow morning and either sends me to ortho or not.  Prayers would be appreciated!   I'm going to paint my nails brown and test this Saturday no matter what.

My Sensei's rule of thumb is that you count the days from the initial injury until pain is gone- double that number and the resulting number is the number of days you wait to use that body part 100% again- or at least you keep that part protected.  Thankfully, he mentioned I could roll one armed this weekend- he just warned me that I will "suck".

Running today, one armed katas, stretching, one armed swings and squats and hopefully a 2 mile walk with dh.

That's really good that your sensei keeps track a bit on your injuries.    I know how hard it is sometimes when you start feeling a little better you want to go all out, but really you should ease back in.     It's so good your peers are so supportive too.  What a great environment!

I am proud of myself. After my little whinefest (and thank you for your indulgence) I made an app't for myself at my GP and I specifically refused an app't with the PA who usually sees me. I love her, I really do. She has taken good care of me and my kids, but two years in a row I have told her my concerns and two years in a row she orders a thyroid test and it comes back fine. I need someone who can hear my concerns a little bit better or who says 'Hey, this wasn't good last year either. Huh, maybe we should follow up'.  So, I have an app't with the new doctor in the practice. She looks pretty crunchy and in this town that is saying something.

Speaking of crunchy, I also found out there is an acupuncture clinic down the street from my house and it has a sliding scale. See what I mean about crunchy? So I made an appt there as well.  I am going to get myself back on track this summer!

Being heard is such an important factor in getting good medical care, isn't it?     You almost feel like why did you bother going in if no one is taking your concerns seriously.

Ankles I do calf raises and a series of stretches.  It's very similar to what

might do but not on pointe obviously.

Good morning ladies!    Sleep is such a wonderful, wonderful thing!.

    Today, skillwork, stretch, roll, MA.

My shoulder is feeling somewhat better today.

yes!  So what is that? being bossy? insensitive to how someone else might feel.

Here is the thing- I will bring it up to him and he will cry bc he did not mean it.

It's not bossy.   It's time and place for appropriate comments.

    Imagine this scenario:

    Group:  Let's order pizza

    Me:   No

11yo:   Yeah my mom would never eat pizza cuz she's a health freak.

See?  It's not the time or place for my 11yo to qualify my response.     It comes across as belittling or cutting in some way no matter how you view it.   It puts me on the defensive.
