  1. But that doesn't mean you're NOT a nutjob! ;) (I love nutjobs! :D)
  2. I've noticed them changing places. It's very disturbing. Or maybe I'm a very disturbed person. Either way, something is disturbing. Or disturbed. Yeah.
  3. Oh, yeah, that's a great point! If you can't afford the VR and decide to go with a regular AFS lens, a tripod or monopod WILL make a huge difference. Monopods are much easier to travel with than tripods. I almost never use one with my VR lens, and the pics (even of small birds at a distance) are sharp enough for me, even when I crop them extensively. Could they be better? Sure. Might I have lost the opportunity to make the shot if I had to go get my tripod? Many times. :D
  4. Here's my list: (similar to many others here) Pushing Daisies LOST Big Bang Theory House Survivor But the one I'm looking forward to the MOST (yes, even more than LOST, if those who know me can believe it) is the new Joss Whedon series Dollhouse starting (I think) in January. I love Joss beyond description. I want to have his babies. I'd sniff his feet if that were the only access I had to him. So yeah. There ya have it. More than you ever wanted to know.
  5. My daughter had completed Latin for Children A before we started Latin Prep 1. I was curious about whether the change in the order would slip her up. But honestly, all the grammar that she "learned" in LFC was simply memorization, not understanding. Latin Prep really focuses on using the cases, not just chanting them. She had a better understanding of what cases were and why and when to use them after two weeks with Latin Prep than she did after a year with LFC. DISCLAIMER: She used LFC at a private classical school, so I wasn't teaching it. It's possible she could have had a deeper understanding if she had learned it one-on-one with me. Yet she aced every test. It would be much less likely that a student would go through a year of Latin Prep without gaining a good, basic understanding of the cases. The other reason I'm not too concerned is that I plan to stick with Galore Park through SYRWTLL 3. By that point, I think her foundation will be strong enough that she could move successfully into any other program, were one to be necessary.
  6. That's the same one I have. Almost any Nikon lens will work with it, but for zooming in on a bird that's a ways away, you will really want to get the VR lens. This is the one I have. It has vibration reduction which makes it more expensive, but also incredibly more useful. I was just taking a picture of a very small animal in my yard, and you can really tell what a difference the VR makes at 300mm when you press the shutter half-way and it engages. It's a great lens, and I LOVE it. Luckily mine came as a package deal when I got my camera, so I saved a couple hundred dollars on it.
  7. I love my 70-300mm zoom. I wish it had a better aperture range, but in most cases it's fine. Evenings are the hardest time because of the lower light level. I would really love a 400 or 600mm fixed lens, but they're way too cost prohibitive. What brand is your camera? If it's a 4/3 system like Olympic you can get away with a lower numbered lens, since the crop factor is higher on those.
  8. Why do I do this? As if the whole roach thread wasn't bad enough, and it made me woozy, and yet I kept looking between breaks outside for fresh air. Now a spider thread. I apparently have a morbid fascination with grossing myself out.
  9. I'm so bad I'm good. You know you love me! :biggrinjester:
  10. I just assumed it was some sad attempt to get us to read her blog. :glare: :tongue_smilie::lol::w00t::rofl::w00t::lol::tongue_smilie:
  11. We haven't started yet, but thanks to you I might actually think about taking some pics when we do! :)
  12. My daughter didn't have night terrors, but she would walk and talk in her sleep. One thing that really helped, and I've heard it helps with night terrors too, is an Epsom salt bath before bed. Magnesium gets absorbed through their skin, and that is what helps. You can also try magnesium supplements, but I haven't had to do that. If you're interested in trying it, just pick up some Epsom salt in the pharmacy area of the store and start off with about 1/3 cup in the bathwater. Each night add a little more until you are up to 1 cup. I've heard that at first it can make the child a little hyper, but that's just more proof that they are magnesium deficient. That's why you start with the lower amount. My daughter would go weeks without sleepwalking, but as soon as we'd get slack with the salt baths you'd know right away because there she would be, stumbling through the house in her sleep. Good luck!
  13. Oh, I don't think it's silly at all, Kathleen. Not one bit.
  14. Maybe I should be sad that this doesn't surprise me. Yes, I feel bad for the little girl, but no more so than I do for the hundreds of little girls every day in Hollywood who get told the same thing. Or for the hundreds of athletes who potentially were better than some of the ones that made it to the Olympics but for bad twists of luck didn't make it. I think most of us would like to look to the Olympics with a higher standard, but I'm not sure that in many ways it's not just become a souped up version of the Super Bowl. You know, the one where, during the half-time show, most of the actual performers lip sync their own songs for who knows how many different reasons. I'm afraid China isn't the only place where it's all about image.
  15. I'm sorry. But it had to be done. Back to your elegant universe as previously scheduled....
  16. Okay, only one more, I promise... It's not my fault. I can't help it. Blame Remudamom. She started it all.
  17. But you know, I could really take him either way...
