  1. I would love to afford any and all fruit in or out of season, regardless of whether it is imported from Timbuktu or not. Also, to have the option to taste grass-fed beef.
  2. What books would you recommend? Any specific titles?
  3. Success! I found these Klogs at our local Supershoes store. Thank you for all the ideas. I had an awful time choosing between black or brown and did not have internet access in order to ask the Hive. I finally chose brown.
  4. Thank you for ALL the suggestions! I have searched locally for some time, but I may just need to take a longer trip or purchase online once I find the magic style/size for my feet.
  5. Just so you know how far out of the loop I am... I did not know that one could spend >$300 on a pair of shoes! Ouch!
  6. Love the embossed style! As a nurse, I never thought of looking for nurses' shoes for everyday wear.
  7. Thank you for your suggestions. Some of the stores are not local for me, and I would hesitate to buy online without trying them on. I think I must have asymmetrical feet; because some styles, like slip-ons, are loose on one foot and fit correctly on the other. Wierd, I know.
  8. Well, I have been accused of being frugal :). But I can not put a price on comfort and would be willing to spend money on a great shoe, if it met the criteria.
  9. I have been searching a long time for that sneaker that looks like a shoe. Or that ever so elusive COMFORTABLE shoe to wear with sweaters, blouses, etc. I actually wear sneakers most of the time, and I am fully aware that it is completely unacceptable. I just cannot sacrifice comfort for fashion, and I cannot find what I am looking for. I'm looking for a shoe that is as comfortable as a sneaker, for everyday wear. Does this exist? Has anyone seen this?
  10. I tried to list other security keys, tried all 3 options, actually, but the Wii defaulted to WAP, would give an error message, which I learned meant that it is not configured to read WAP. Love it that a 3 yr old Wii cannot read a 1 year old Wi-fi modem. Gotta love that kind of software! If you would care to describe how to get past the error message, I might be willing to try again. We keyed in our security code, etc under all the options, even manually, without success. It would be nice to get Netflix streaming, but with the Wii not reading the modem, that is not possible. From the responses, it looks like the Ipad would work with our wi-fi modem. Thank you, that is what I was hoping for.
  11. I've been heard telling my dh that we should move out west just to give the dc the experience of seeing snow-capped mtns. Now, I am half-heartedly serious, because I grew up in the Northeast, until college, when my parents up and moved to Colorado and then to TX. A part of me wants them to see what a wonderful country we live in! The practical side of me thinks that we should stay in the jobs we like... Which argument wins varies depending on the day, so dh makes the call, and we are still here :001_smile: ...
  12. Please forgive me if this is an unwarranted concern. Has anyone bought an Ipad or wi-fi gadget and have the wi-fi modem at home not be compatible with it? Back story: I bought a Motorola wi-fi/cable modem last year, ds bought the 2013 Madden wii game, and we discovered that the Wii console cannot read the router's security key. It identifies that it is there, but will not let us key in the password or code. After hours of research, it turns out that the Wii is not compatible with the security key WAP, or some such thing. Well, I'm considering an Ipad, smartphone, etc. but would rather not have the same problem with device compatibility. Is the Ipad compatible with all wi-fi modems in your experience? Or did anyone bring home a shiny new toy, only to have to relinquish it later, due to inability to connect to wi-fi? TIA,
  13. I think the catch word for me is "nurture". I do not make any attempts to be alone with a man, but I do like to talk to men at church, work, etc. Is this inappropriate? I love to laugh and there are a few very funny guys in my world that I like to joke with. I also happen to like football. My best friends are female, but sometimes I do miss the single days of hanging out with the guys, who bring less drama/gossip to the party. Sometimes the emotional upkeep some female relationships require is more than I want to give. Men are easier to relate to. I will never hurt my husband, he is a gift to me and I treasure him. I do think it is an overreaction in some circles, if women are not allowed to have conversations with men (without husband nearby). I try to always be mindful of how I talk, so that anyone walking up can be immediately included as part of the discussion, no exclusive/private conversations with other men. There are some opinions that a married woman should not talk alone with a man, and vise versa. I think this is an overreaction.
  14. Thank you, everyone, for helping me over the wall. I was able to find a few reviews. Any more links or helps are appreciated!
  15. Is there a website for info that shows how academically rigorous high schools are, or do I need to rely on word of mouth? I've found general SAT score results across Virginia, but I am looking for a site that compares high schools. I would really like to compare our public schools to a nearby private school. Even forums would be better than nothing... I just cannot find the info I'm searching for... has anyone been successful in researching the academic strength of your specific high school or, in my case, my would be high school? We have important decisions to make here, and more info is needed!
  16. I have saved this link to what looks like a great website. A thoughtful mom from this board once shared it. Someday I want to read the books listed in the curriculum offered. HTH,
  17. Thank you for sharing your advice. I see that we may need to work on more research projects with bibliographies. I have called the school office for their advice, we have a Homeschool Liaison who will call me back with specifics re: the transition. Oh, and he wants to try out for football with no experience in an organized program... does Football Fantasy help :001_smile: ?
  18. We are planning to send our dc to high school as either public or private school next year. I am looking for practical advice on how to prepare him for the change in school routines, teaching style differences, the school routines, etc. For example; while considering the lecture style of teaching, I am wondering how best to practice the "taking notes" skill. He is used to the IEW keyword outlining and regularly writes narrative assignments. However, we don't have a lecture style, and I would like to prepare him as best I can. Would you take time to practice reading/teaching orally, so he can learn how to write quickly? Any advice? TIA,
  19. I may have missed something, but is there a link to the pic?
  20. Still looking for a how-to for adding the "Contact Advertiser directly" button to ads. Any help?
  21. You ladies make me tired, with all the tasks you do while talking on the phone!
  22. With your present schedule in mind, if you had only ONE form of communication to use with your FRIENDS, which would you choose? Thank you for your help in my poll. I think I'm semi-consciously trying to discover if I am strange or not... I'll go first... I prefer face-to-face chats, mostly because I enjoy being around people and having a good laugh, or cry together.
  23. These are hilarious! Skipped thru some, but enjoyed them... thanks for the link.
