  1. Rabbi Kushner spoke at our church last year and and this exact question was asked. His answer, quite simply, was "They are Christians."
  2. I hadn't given it any thought before but now that it's been brought up, dd's comment the first or second week was "Wow, that's one creepy looking Pinocchio!" She even made a point to show it to her dad when he came in from work. "Look Dad, isn't it creepy?"
  3. I am not a fan of Chows as every one I met was aggressive. that said, I am on my 3rd chow/lab mix. You just never know with a mixed breed which traits are going to come through. The first one was The. Best. Dog. Ever. He was a beast of a dog with a huge head and people were intimidated by him. However, he was the sweetest, most lovable, affectionate, gentle, docile, well behaved kid-loving dog I've ever known. He would snuggle up with my nephew to keep him warm when we'd take him camping up in the mountains.:001_wub: We loved him so much that when we saw some adorable chow/lab puppies being given away we got another. She was also very sweet and affectionate. To me. She didn't like most other people and hated children. We had to get rid of her when my daughter became mobile because she would follow her around growling and would sometimes lunge at her face. Last spring we got another chow/lab puppy. She's not as calm as our first (but we got him when he was a year, so he may have been a super-hyper pup as well) but is very friendly and loves people, especially kids. Good luck!
  4. I had a great MIL and loved her as I do my own mother. She passed away 3 years ago and I miss her terribly. she lived across the street from my own mother and it's so hard when I visit my parents and see new people in her house.
  5. I was 37 and dh was 40. We'd been married 18 years when dd came along. So while all our friends were looking forward to soon becoming empty nesters, and some were even becoming grandparents; we were just getting started. :tongue_smilie:
  6. Ah, I see where you're coming from now. I haven't read the other thread so I didn't catch that connection. I can see why it upset you now.
  7. Wow, I'm pro-choice and never even thought about this being a political statement. I saw it as a heartbreaking and beautiful story that the parents wanted to share about the short life of their beautiful child. I have had my own losses, and it did bring back gut-wrenching memories but I still found it very touching. I'm sorry for those who were hurt by it. :grouphug: Perhaps a warning should be put in the subject line.
  8. When dd was 2 or 3 she said "scoopsy" instead of "excuse me". She doesn't say it anymore, but I do.:D Instead of refrigerator she says furigerator. I love it. Speaking of furigerators, my older brother called it a "fritter's fritter". That is what I still call it to this day. :tongue_smilie:
  9. Everything is so pretty! I've only been knitting prayer shawls for church lately. The one I'm working on now is in pretty desert colors. Seeing all the lovely things here though is inspiring - I might have to start a new project. :001_smile:
  10. My dd is 5.5 and we just finished our kindergarten year. We used a Winterpromise program and because dd is an advanced reader (probably 3rd or 4th grade) we used their LA1 program. It consisted of Explode the Code 6 and Right Into Reading 2. We really liked it, and dd enjoyed it though it did have a lot more writing than she was comfortable with, understandably. Now for 1st grade I thought I'd just stay with Winterpromise as we are happy with it and move into their LA2 program which is Wordly Wise 3000 Bk. 2, Adventures in Phonics C, Spellwell A & AA, and success with Grammar 2. I've been looking at FLL and WWE and REALLY like what I see. I would really like to do this with my dd, I guess my concern is, since she's already done some LA, and is a bit ahead here, that FFL and WWE might be a little boring for her and like going backward. Has anyone done FLL and WWE after doing another program? Opinions?
