  1. I have never heard of such a doctor, I will look...but since we live in rural NE, I doubt we will find one close enough. But it's worth a look. eta: nope...the closest (and only that I can see) is 3 hours away.
  2. Jean, I agree with everything you said. So, where do I go from here? I did take her to our local clinic and the doctor was as clueless as we are....we do have a hand specialist about 45 minutes from here...but he mainly treats injuries and does surgeries on injured hands...I do not think he would be helpful...she didn't injure herself... so we just try a different doctor? what would you do?
  3. do you think that my daughter's hand issues can be caused by a spine issue? It doesn't hurt all of the time...but the duration is longer and longer with each episode.
  4. how do we know if that is the problem?
  5. I thought it might be RA, but when I found this, I realized that she doesn't have any of these symptoms in the way they are described...so now what??? RA SymptomsAlthough RA is a chronic—or persisting—disease, symptoms may come and go unpredictably. That’s because RA symptoms come in flares where there may be periods of increased disease activity and fade or disappear in periods of remission. During a flare, you may notice some or all of the following symptoms: Painful, swollen, warm joints Pain and stiffness lasting for more than 30 minutes in the morning or after a long rest Inflammation in hands (wrist and finger joints), neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, or feet Symmetrical pattern of inflammation, meaning both sides of the body are impacted at once Fatigue, occasional fever, and a general feeling of discomfort
  6. That is what I want to think....I have heard others (in the past) say they like their chiropractors....but I never really paid much attention...so now I am not even sure who those "others" are...to ask for recommendations.
  7. If you have been following my threads on my daughters hands, you will know that she has been having problems. 1) swan neck deformity in her fingers 2) had pain and tightness from her index finger through her wrist to her forearm (currently not hurting) 3) aches in between her thumb and index finger (this morning for the first time complained of joint pain in her thumb) considering arthritis as the problem. 2 friends of mine suggested chiropractic care.... my only expeirence with chiropractors has been less than good... 1) I went to a chiropractor for neck and back pain....went multiple times for an adjustment...never helped...stopped going...months later, pain went away after I changed pillows. 2) took the same daughter to a "all natural" chiropractor for a knee thing...she used lasers, and tinctures and heating lamps...didn't help, but when she told me that my daughter needs to be tested for diabetes, I was out of there...(that was 5 years ago...no diabetes) and when I took her to a children's hospital doctor, we were told that 4 months of staying off it would help...and it did. She was on crutches for that time and she is fine. So, I am a bit leery....but I am also becoming desperate. I don't want to put her on all sort of medicines for arthritis but I am also feeling a bit stuck. If anybody has used chiropractic care for something similar, please give me some guidance. thanks.
  8. We are using Friendly Chemistry and up until now, we have been moving through it fairly smoothly. But the further we get the more we struggle. I have contacted the writer and he has been nothing but amazing, but I am now to the point where I fear we are asking him for more help than he is able to help (meaning, he has his own life and very busy with other projects and his family that he can't give the time that we might need). So I am not sure what to do now. I am not sure how we are going to be able to finish without some additional help someplace. We did try Khan Academy for Balancing chemical reactions...and it was only barely helpful...probably because the process was quite different than what FC did...and of course the problems weren't exactly like the ones my kids were asked to do. The chapters we have left to cover are: Intro to Stoichiometry Prediciting Grams of Product Prediciting grams of product from grams of reactant Do I have enough reactant? Mixing compounds with Water to make solutions Incorporating Molarity into Stoichiometric Problems Determining the Needed Amount of a solution to perform a reaction Properties of Gases and How Gases can be measured in reactions How changing temperatures affect gases How changing Pressures affect gases The combined gas laws. Please, please, if anybody has a thought for me, I would be so grateful!!!
  9. we are trying to get away from "cozy"...that is what we have now.
  10. Assuming that quality of campers are basically the same within a brand name (even though the configuration might be different)... what brand of camper do you have and what do you like about it (quality wise) or not like about it? We are trying to decide if we want to buy new (but look for a cheaper camper) or buy used (but maybe it will be a better quality of camper), but we do not know which brands fall into which category. We know that Coachman seems like a pretty good camper...but beyond that...we know very little. If you have any information that would help us, that would be great.
  11. Has anybody here used this for High School? Can you tell me more about it? Is it a full HS credit...or supplemental? thanks.
  12. yes, but now not $30 each. The last 2 more so than the first...the first seems to be to loose at the neckline...I think.
  13. it's also the neckline....I don't like loose fitting lower neckline shirts...but I like the lower neckline of a cami. I don't have much in front...so I am not trying to show off anything....but I don't like the look of regular t-shirt type neckline under things either. Does that make sense?
  14. I am looking at maybe buying the Scoring Services offered by Essentials in Writing this year....but for a year, it's nearly $100. Can't decide if it would be worth it or not. I am not a writer, I can't teach writing and I have a hard time grading writing in an objective way. SO, for those purposes, it would worth the money IF the feedback from EIW is helpful to the student. They only grade one writing per lesson...so they don't help along the way...just the final writing. WE LOVE EIW and do not plan to change from that... so if you have used this service, I would love to hear your feedback. thanks.
  15. I like the look of camis under sweaters and shirts...but sometimes I want the warmth of long sleeves. Does a type of shirt exist that gives you the look of a cami, and yet have long sleeves? If so, can you link me a couple so I can see what they look like and where I can get them? thanks.
  16. Where are you finding Dr Quinn and the waltons?
  17. we typically camp about 30 nights out of the summer...if not more...and we like camping...not hotel rooming. I know that for a person who camps only 5 nights a summer, it wouldn't make sense....but because we camp, we are seeing parts of the country we probably wouldn't... but thanks for the perspective.
  18. nice, but I think it's too heavy.. but yeah, something like that.
  19. Oh, I need to add two more pieces of information...we have a 12, 15 and 16 year old. I think that will make a difference. and we want one slide...two would be too heavy, we think, to tow.
  20. we currently have a hybrid or expandable, and we are considering upgrading to a bunkhouse. Maybe you have seen my other camper threads. Ideally what we want is: 3 bunks, c shaped dinnette, huge outside storage, outside kitchen (big, not small). We also would love to be able to tow 2-3 adult sized bikes (but we don't know if that will be possible). we will be towing with a Suburban. We have started looking on craigslist and dealer websites. (I know it's early, but we are hoping for a great deal). we think we want to go 2-3 year used. Do you have any knowledge about buying older? will we regret that? We are trying to decide if we want to trade our hybrid in or sell it out right. Will we get a better deal one way or the other? What sort of things do we need to do extra (besides cleaning it) to get more money out of it?? We live about 2-3 hours from any dealers of any size. So one of the issues we are thinking about is, if we want to trade our hybrid in, do we risk taking it 3 hours away to a dealer, only hoping they will have a great deal for us? Do we go without the camper and then take 2 trips? How would you tackle this situation? If we call different dealers, telling them what we want, do they go searching for you and let you know when they find what you are looking for? Are there any tricks or tips for us as we are searching, so we don't waste too much time....or missing something obvious? thanks so much for any and all advice.
  21. Thank you all so much for your responses. I really appreciate the fact that maybe I am not out of my mind to consider not letting DS take organ lessons at this time. I do not think this is something that he is dying to do...I also am not 100% sure he is not saying this to annoy his sister. He has so many other talents and loves, I have a hard time believing that he has been wanting to do this for a long time or anything...he just likes to try new things. But this one thing is my dd's thing...it would so deflate her if her brother started...so I think we will wait for now. He loves his trumpet...and his piano. So I think we will focus on that for now. thank you so much for the thoughts and the considerations. I do so much appreciate it.
  22. If you have used/owned (or own still) a travel trainer (not 5th wheel) that had 3 bunks, outside kitchen, c shaped dinette, one slide (maybe 2)....can you please answer a couple questions for me? 1) which camper did you have/use? 2) did you have enough storage for all of your things to have a decent home? 3) what did you pull it with? 4) over all, did you like it? why or why not? (or even which things did you like or not like) thanks.
  23. Please help me sort this out. This is concerning my 2 older kids...dd16 and dd15. DD has ALWAYS been reserved, timid, scared to do anything on her own, anxious etc. She has to work hard to get what she wants...not everything she tries she is successful at or comes easy. But she has recently become more confident in the areas she does excel it. (more on that in a minute) DS, just the opposite...to a fault sometimes...he just jumps in and does every he tries very well the first time. He is bold, brave, confident. When the kids were really little, dd wouldn't do anything first...but if ds did it (going down the slide for example for the first time), then she would try it. As they got older, dd became more and more frustrated with ds because he was always one step right behind her in many things...and often threatened to pass her (not that he would say anything...just that if he was that close, it was threatening to her.) Prime example: piano lessons....she started a year before him...but it wasn't long before he caught up to her....he didn't have to work as hard to achieve the same as she did with twice as much work. She didn't like that. Years later (like 3 years ago) we thought maybe putting her on a different instrument would help with that competition...so she started organ. Like everything else, it took her about 2 years to really come into her own...and gain the confidence to do well, play for church and be proud of herself. Her teacher says she is gaining much faster than a year ago. Just the other day, my ds said, "mom, I would like to try organ"....and right away, I felt like...here we go again...same story...different instrument. My DD just finally found something she can do that her brother doesn't do...and now he wants to do it also. And, of course, like everything else he tries, I am certain he will learn faster than she did...and catch up to her again. Everything we have gained with dd will go down the drain. Is it horrible of me to tell him as that soon as she goes off to college (in 2 years) he can take organ lessons if he wants? He already is taking piano and trumpet lessons. I don't know if this next piece of information is important, but I grew up with 2 brothers who are like my ds and I am more like dd. So I don't want to impose something on her, because of my experience growing up. Thanks...for your thoughts on this matter.
  24. underside. hmm...can you get golfer's elbow from sewing or playing the organ? Those are her 2 main activities that she does with her hands. other than writing for school of course...
