  1. For Conceptual Physics, the latest 12th edition is the first edition to have section numbers. This is important as the video lessons here at Conceptual Academy are organized by section numbers. In a pinch, the 11th edition will work, but you'll experience some confusion of what goes where. this is what I read, I guess....can anybody here address this? is it really that confusing to use the 11th edition?
  2. this was looking great until I realized the course is $110 and the book is another $100. (at least on Amazon). UGH.... they recommend buying the current book...the older ones are cheaper...but will they work with the online portion?
  3. share with me any 8th grade level Astronomy programs that you know of. Prefer either a neutral or creationist view point. thanks.
  4. My daughter (junior next year), has taken biology (part was Apologia...until that was just too much...we stopped half year...I did have her watch the Bio 101 DVD's and I am not sure she has had enough Biology...I will have to decide that one later)...she is currently taking Chemistry (Friendly Chemistry) and doing well. She has had Algebra 1 and is currently taking Geometry (Math Relief) and also doing well. Math and Science are not her strong point...but the programs I have chosen have helped. But I am unable to find a physics course (and the college she wants to attend requires Bio, Chem and Physics) that is video or DVD base without needing Trig or Calc. I have been looking at: Fascinating Physics, but it looks a bit dry and boring (but maybe that is just the way it is), Crash Course, but that doesn't look like a stand alone program, either does Bozeman Science. I can't afford an online course for several hundred dollars also...like Clover Creek Science (as cool as that one looks). What else is out there for me to consider? thanks.
  5. ok....I hear ya. this is why I am asking....because I doubted it myself. 6. Is Bloomfields Physics a book? a program? I am very much needing a video based Physics course...that is why I was looking at Physics 101. If it's not a complete course, I am sort of surprised that places like Timberdoodle list that as their HS Physics option. OK...still looking.
  7. is this a full HS credit program? If not, what would need to be added to make it so? This is for a non-STEM kid who doesn't understand why she needs to take physics since all she wants to do is teacher preschoolers....regardless how many times I have told her it's not for her career, but it is needed to go to college. :001_huh:
  8. so would earlier in May be better...or the end of May...or does it really not make a difference? Also, will it be more challenging to get tickets to places that need tickets? As soon as we figure out what days we are going...then I will start working on getting tickets to the places we need. So hopefully we will get on that soon enough. If someone could kindly list out all of the places that need tickets ahead of time (of the main places) that would be so helpful...and maybe even how we need to get those tickets. THANKS so much for all of the help thus far...you guys are always so great. Kathy
  9. I was going to buy the latest edition of the Kaplan book...but then a friend gave me her 2016 book to use. Is there really going to be that much difference in the 2? My daughter is just a sophomore, but I wanted her to start looking at what is going to be expected...so I know what she needs to cover yet...and so she knows what that type of test will be like. There are 6 different tests in the book...so that is nice. So do you think the 2016 version will be good enough?
  10. good to know...so we will want to stay away that week then. thanks.
  11. another question for those who live in or near DC. What is going on in the area the 3rd week in May? My husband started looking into hotels and many are booked for that week...so we are thinking something must be happening...or is that just a typical busy week for DC?
  12. thanks for the Ford Theatre ticket tip...we will get on that ASAP. what is an airnb?
  13. Who, here, has made kefir? Besides just drinking it, what else do you use it for? I am also interested in any beginner tips you can share. thanks.
  14. I would like to find a reliable digital pedometer without having to sync it to any smart phone or computer. I do not have the desire to have all of my information stored on some "data base" some where....but I do have the desire to monitor my steps. I would prefer one that wears like a watch, not one for your pocket. I found one, but it got so-so reviews on Amazon and it uses only military time on the clock feature. Do I HAVE to sync a fit bit to a smart phone, or can it work without doing that? I know nothing about these gadgets... they just intrigue me. Tell me what my options might be.
  15. A friend of mine got this for Christmas https://www.amazon.com/Simply-Fit-Board-Workout-Balance/dp/B01KMJNZCS/ref=sr_1_1?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1483847789&sr=1-1&keywords=simply+fit+board and it looks interesting...but I can't hardly imagine it's as great as it claims to be... so, has anybody here used one and what are your opinions?? BTW, I am looking to slim down my tummy a bit...and so this caught my eye...
  16. I have a couple questions about grading. 1) do you include classwork grades in with the overall grade for a class. If so, so you weight them differently? If so, what percent is classwork and what percent is test and quizzes? 2) if you include classwork in your grades...I have another question: I have my kids correct any mistakes they make before moving on...(and I am assuming that is normal), so then do you record the 1st time grade or the corrected grade (which would be 100%, because we don't move on until they have made a 100%). Or do you give partial credit for corrected answers? I don't want my kids to have a good grade if I am not suppose to record corrected material...but if they understand the material after redoing their work, then why shouldn't they get the good grade? Help me understand what I am supposed to do. thanks.
  17. I think he is so frustrated with not being very fast with math facts that unless this was so babyish, he would probably do it...especially if it worked.
  18. oh thank you much for all of the tips and ideas. I do really appreciate it. Another question I have is what to do in the evenings....after everything is closed. We won't have a car. We were hoping to get a hotel with a pool...so we can relax in the evening. Touring the monuments after dark sounds great...any other thoughts for me?
  19. My 12 year old struggles with quick recall of multiplication facts. He knows the idea behind multiplication, but he has to skip count to get to many of the answers and that is really bogging him down. I was wondering if Times Tales would appear too babyish for a 12 1/2 year old? thanks.
  20. We are taking a trip from Nebraska to DC this may, for about a week. (dates aren't set yet...but it will be during the 2nd and 3rd week). We need everything from airline flight ideas and tips, (we haven't flown since Nov 2012), to hotel rooms (with a kitchenette), to navigating DC and and must sees vs things that can go lower on the list. We have 3 kids....ages 16, 15 and nearly 13 (by trip time). We have been blessed with an all expense paid trip, (Christmas gift from in-laws) however, we do not want to take advantage of that and go the most expensive way either. we hope to not eat out a lot (however, a couple super cool or interesting places to eat would be great to know)...so maybe staying someplace close to a grocery store would be great. If more information from me would be helpful, please ask. thanks for your help.
