I only use the growth mind set with my children when it comes to dealing with failure . I dont tell me kids that there are gifted. And when they do know : I will tell them that even when you are gifted you still need to work hard. And if they do everything good without mistakes that it means that they didnt learn a lot . We need to make mistakes to learn. A lot of gifted kids are perfectionist and they are used to do everything good, When they do make a mistake or when something gets difficult they get confused and want to stop. And then they will not grow. And no, a gifted mind is not fixed because it can grow more with for example : AoPs, Kangaroo math, BA and MCT.

Are there any homeschoolers from Europe ? And were do you live ? We are homeschooling in Belguim ...

Dear all, Which planning system do you use for you accelerated children. I bought a homeschool planner but I just cant plan very well :) When I plan to do 1 lesson for Singapore Math . He could do 2 lessons ... Or he finished his spelling lessons much earlier because he already knew them. Or he rushes through Science because it was to easy and he already read about it. And there are other days were he needs extra time because DS hits a wall and needs extra time. It seems that what I plan is not the same what DS is going to do .... There are also other days and weeks were I can skip a lot of chapters because they are to easy for him. Or just skip an grade level .I know this is perfectly normal with an accelerated child but this does not make it easy to plan things. I have a large family and when I dont write my planning. I will easily forget to do things ... So how do you plan your kids work every day/week? Or is a week planner basically not a option for a gifted child because you just have to follow his capabilities , potentials and struggles. Thanks in advanced

DS told me that he wanted to learn Chinese as well . I really dont know were to start and how to teach him because we are not Chinese :) But we learn French, Arabic , Dutch and English. We talk Arabic and Dutch at home, But I also read to them in English and talk to them during our Engish time daily... For French they work with Skoldo .

Thanks Arcadia great advice . I think to make Math and Science his last subject as well. Can you recommend me good non fiction math books. Do you feel that math reading books are a great enrichment ? DS loves to read as well.

Please tell us what you do and which age and grade level your child is working. DS complained that we are not doing lots of math and wants to do more.............

For what is its worth 5D is out now . They will sell it next month . I highly prefer to finish all the Beast workbooks before moving on to AoPs.

Dear all, How many times do I need to repeat 1 Math facts colum which is on the end of the HIG ? We also do Xtramath and we just started with Soroban (Japanese abacus) training. So I dont know if it is required to follow all the Math Facts of HIG in Singapore Primary Math . For those who do the math facts of SM how much time do you spend on them ? Ds is really good with multiplication and division but he needs more time on his subtraction and addition math facts. Thanks in advanced, Visitor

Dear all, As a muslima and hijab wearing woman I like there is a hijab day. Just to let me feel that there are people who are against racism. When I saw American woman (non muslims) wore the hijab with an American flag. I cried because I forgot there are people out there who are willing to defend for my rights. Even though we don't share the same religion. We should learn to respect each other. It is a shame that people in this world must suffer because what they wear or believe in. When you live in a daily struggle because you were a hijab you forget sometimes :) that not all persons are racist . I don't feel that all Christians should wear a scarf that day. But it gives me hope that someday people are going to learn to respect each other religion, skin color, culture etc. Instead of hijab day. I would like an anti racism day were all people would go crazy have fun and were each other cultural clothes :-)or symbols.
