  1. We used BP for many years, as Christians, but I don't think you would have any trouble ignoring the religious books/resources using their plan. It's just a lesson plan scheduling spines, readers for grammar and logic stage, read alouds, map and timeline suggestions, and writing suggestions for both stages. Year 1 would pose somewhat of a problem considering they incorporate Bible and Victory Journey of the Bible, but you can ignore those and just follow the plans for using Usborne or Kingfisher and some of the units on biblical history. A lot of the readers are those you would find on many other lists. Some are religiously oriented but since BP has a large bibliograpy plus alternates, you would be able to find alternatives readily. hth somewhat sylvia
  2. We started it but didn't get very far because we hadn't used the Chem Level 1. That would have been extremely helpful. It became too complex for my 6th grader although he enjoyed it. It is well written and consistent with that level but doing Level 1 would have done the trick. Sorry, can't help much on this. Sylvia
  3. We've been doing President's Challenge for many, many years. Our homeschool group selects a coordinator for it and we just practice together and maintain scores throughout the year and have final testing dates. We have never had anyone trained under ps pe teacher. I know I became confused one year as well when I read that on their website. But we continued to do it as we had before and there has never been a problem. When we're done I just go to the order site and place my order and that it! BTW, I place the order for the group. Very easy. Sylvia
  4. Congrats to you and your ds. I know you were concerned about this. I can see God's faithfulness. Sylvia
  5. I requested it from their site but haven't received any emails from them. Thanks again
  6. Thanks so much. Your feedback is very helpful. Appreciate the time you took to answer my specific questions. Sylvia
  7. That was very helpful. More questions ... Does TRISMS cover literary analysis of readings? I noticed a mentioning that it worked well for their reluctant reader, but does it work well for one that likes to read as well? Do you find that it takes a long time to complete because of all the research? OK, I'm done. I won't ask anymore ... for a while;) Thanks again Sylvia
  8. I haven't heard of this in a long time but I think Laurel Springs is an option. It offers many options through high school if my memory serves me right. Oh, what about Division of Independent Study, North Dakota? hth
  9. I have some add'l questions about TRISMS, if you don't mind. How does it handle the Christian aspects of history? Does it include discussion questions or just the questionnaires? What about worldview? Do you incorporate your own worldview questions if at all? Do they read whole books in addition to the literature readings in TRISMS? I noticed some of the courses include Rhetoric? How does TRISMS handle this? Also, do you find that you tend to use one or two spines or do you use several resources, i .e., www searches, encyclopedias, etc.? Sorry, I know these are quite a few questions. I've been looking at TRISMS site for some time but can't quite figure it all out. I'm trying to compare it to TOG. I don't need multi levels though. Thanks so much. Sylvia
  10. Our transcript shows the cc courses taken under a title with the community college name. The cc courses are weighted on the transcript. There was no jump in math courses because dd just continued on the math track from Alg 2 to taking Trig, Pre-Cal, Calc 1, Calc 2 at cc. But for science, since dd had not taken Biology in high school it was a big jump to go into General Biology at cc. We should have had her take Intro Biology instead. All well, she learned a lot and loved it.
  11. I'm going to print these and go over all these titles. Thanks a lot for all your recommendations. Sylvia
  12. DD did Alg 1 Geom Alg 2 Trig (cc) Pre-Cal (cc) Cal 1 (cc) Cal 2 (cc) Our cc required a full Trig course before the Pre-Cal, instead of the "typical high school Pre-Cal course with Trig." Will probably follow the same sequence for ds. We found that there are two ways to think about this: Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 is a nice continuation of Algebra, but Algebra 2 then Trig is a nice continuation also. Geometry, being an isolated math discipline, can fit anywhere in there, but we need to consider the PSAT/SAT. So as mentioned before Geom should be completed before those tests. Well, that's been our experience.
  13. I just received Teaching Co. latest catalog and I'm wondering what are your recommended titles. Thanks
  14. We've heard from three colleges and was accepted. We are waiting on the public colleges which will probably in mid March. DD still plans to apply to one more!! I must confess it's a very difficult for year for us -- dd busy with applications and essays and I'm trying to stay sane and not get too crazy about all the deadlines!
  15. I was wondering the same thing and was confused. Sylvia
  16. I've been a frequent visitor to WTM Boards since the beginning but an infrequent poster. We have 3 dc, 12th grader, 9th grader, and 6th grader. We've been homeschooling since the beginning, except, my oldest attended public high school for 9th and 10th grades. She's now doing online courses with Biola Torrey, comm. college courses (mostly math) and completing some additional high school requirements, i.e., Econ, etc. She's been busying applying to colleges this year. She has been accepted and offered academic scholarships from the three we have heard from. Still waiting on the public schools and applying to one more college. My 9th grader uses Omnibus 3 (first year using this), TT, Latin in CT, Spielvogel history book, and Logic through Biola Torrey. My 6th grader uses IEW, TT, SOTW 4, AG. Well, that's what I can remember at the top of my head. I've been very grateful for everyone's input on these boards (now forums) as they have been very helpful in my homeschooling journey. Lots of ideas and lots of advice and plenty of opinions, which I like! Thanks. I will continue to "listen" closely. Sylvia
