  1. You are right, this is a GREAT example of how things are made up from nothing! Show me one post that says or implies that I have a negative opinion of BLM
  2. But again, I wasn't asking from my perspective. I was asking as a general question - if you know someone who doesn't support BLM but believes that lives of black people should matter, would you be friends with that person. I didn't say that they wouldn't have any info about the movement.
  3. So I know very little about it. I was asking general question, not from my own position. I know this is a very personal topic for you, and I probably shouldn't have asked.
  4. Yeah, sorry. I meant what the movement stands for vs simply believing that lives of black people matter.
  5. It's one thing to believe the actual phrase, but it might be different to support what actual organization stands for. That's why I was asking.
  6. Would you still be friends with someone if they weren't a racist but didn't support BLM?
  7. I think so. Neither my friend (who I just called and ask) nor I feel this way about each other.
  8. Speaking of "health" related books - I've read probably ~10-12 books over the last year, all claiming different things. All written by MDs. I am officially done reading any and all health related books. Started reading Secret Empires by Peter Schweizer. Oh....very very scary book, such deep corruption in our govt! I am not sure if I'll finish it, I am depressed enough. I think I'll just pick up Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
  9. For sure!! I have been stocking up for the past 6 months. I told my husband today that we need to start using it before it expires. I over took a second shelving unit in a basement with food....
  10. I think I got too much junky stuff that evidently adds up quickly!! I need to start going shopping with a list and prices! When you make chicken stock - how large of a pot are you using? Do you strain it all before using it for other dishes?
  11. Sooooo, today, Nov 8th and I am already over my food budget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nope, didn't buy turkey yet or anything else for Thanksgiving....
  12. OMG you just completely derailed all my daily plans! I can't get off their site!!!!!!!!!
  13. I have not read a page this week....not one!!
  14. You completely missed the point of my post
  15. I don't know if it's a Christian thing, I am not a Christian, so I simply don't know.... I think the apology thing has become something that is expected without any kind of reason anymore. There has to be a balance in a dynamic of a relationship. If a person is expected to apologize any time someone is hurt or offended....why shouldn't the other person stop being so hurt and offended??? Why assume the transgression on the person speaking, not person receiving??
  16. He is so so smart and yet so humble. I don't always agree with him on everything, but just seeing how he handles things is a huge lesson
  17. Excellent, Excellent list. Everything you said boils down to the simple thing - treat people with respect and a little bit of kindness. Doesn't it sound simple? Don't we expect 5 yr olds to behave this way? And yet, here we are, adults, have completely lost that ability. Also, when ever I get into things with other people, my dad always tells me - start with yourself. Look at your actions first, What could YOU have done better, differently, what lesson you should have learned. Don't worry about other people's behavior, worry about your own and do the right thing. I think people are too busy telling others what to do and how to live and don't look at themselves. Start with yourself.
  18. Yes!! I felt like it was happening to me! You know how you watch ER or House or Grey's Anatomy and it's just....a TV show. you know they will figure out the problem and someone might die, but still -TV show. This was hitting so so close. Hmmmm I need to rewatch the ending...may be I missed something. No, didn't know Glassman was married to that woman in real life. BTW, I just finished binging West Wing, so I am seeing such flash backs to his character there... lol I could never stand Leah, but she did well, so may be I'll be able to tolerate her a bit. And yes, I agree, I am sure they will move on to other stories and away from Covid. But they started season very very well
  19. In order of bolded Don't you think that person should have given you benefit of the doubt and instead of saying that your words were unkind, asked if you are OK since your post seemed to be not in your character? Shouldn't the respect go both ways? Would it have mattered if you felt strongly? Would you then stand behind your words or change them anyway? I hope you get good rest 🙂 I really didn't mean to pick on you or completely derail this thread once again. I just found it interesting that in a thread about being easily offended, some people got easily offended by a poster that they claimed is kind and thoughtful and, without asking you to clarify, immediately told you that you were unkind. We all have things that set us off, some things we feel stronger about and some we don't care at all. Some words will offend bc of our experience or our nature or simply our mood at the moment. Kindness and benefit of the doubt should go both ways - the person speaking and person receiving. And not every word has to be measured that precisely.
  20. Bc at that point it's just having conversations about how to have conversations...I mean, I am sure it's fun for some.....
  21. Oh I didn't know that.... All I can say is that it felt so so real to me, scary real. Come back and tell me what you think after you watch it.
  22. I just watched the first episode of the season. Oh.....they handled Covid so so so so so so well!!!! So so well!!! I mentioned that I didn't like how This is US handled Covid and shootings. So this gives me hope that other shows might handle it better.

  24. It's really interesting what just happened.... A poster said something ( @MercyA) - two, three people found it offensive and she immediately apologized. Why?? At least two other people (me and @Not_a_Number) didn't take offense to it. And!!! people who thought she was unkind actually said that they think of her as the kindest person. So, the question is - how carefully do we all have to choose our words even when we have a built-in reputation? Should we apologize if our words are not even taking the same way by everyone? And may be that was OP's point (I am speculating) - it's getting harder and harder to have conversations and relationships without worrying that someone somehow is going to be offended. Not sure it's an age thing, though....
