  1. I'll second Amazon and RR, but I also like Ebay for new and used. There are two that I particularly like. Oh, and I also love www.homeschoolclassifieds.com for great deals on used items. www.stores.ebay.com/The-Homeschoolers-Hangout www.stores.ebay.com/Your-Teacher-Resource-Source
  2. What are some good Read Alouds for Kindergarten/Ages 5-6??
  3. To round out our American History study to include AA perspective we included: Uncle Tom's Cabin Up From Slavery Narrative of Fredrick Douglas The Jungle We also read Black Like Me.
  4. What would you suggest for Grammar for 9th grade, for a kid that detests grammar? We have previously used BJU which became very intense for us. Currently we use Keys to Good Language and we love it. I would like something that gives an adequate amount of instruction and isn't overwhelming.
  5. I'll second this! My ds learned the letters and sounds by age 3 just from watching this. I only had him watch it to occupy him while doing school with his big brothers!
  6. We too will be using Gen Sci this year. I like this as I have been wondering what to do as well. Thanks!
  7. Thank you! We are going to be using several of these with the Animals and Their Worlds set I just bought from Winter Promise. I love the way they look and I can't wait to dive in!
  8. The only one I can think of is that in the natural order of things there seems to be no purpose for it.
  9. We used My Father's World Kindergarten - the deluxe kit. It was excellent. www.mfwbooks.com
  10. This one is a visual timer as well....works like a stop light....Very cool. http://www.learningresources.com/product/parents/shop+by+category/special+needs/auditory/time+tracker--174-+visual+timer+-amp-+clock.do?search=basic&keyword=timers&sortby=bestSellers&page=1&
  11. Can someone post a link? I used the search several times and all I can get are WTB threads! What am I doing wrong?
  12. JudoMom- thank you for the link. Katie, I am switching because I personally find Saxon more appealing. I intended from the get go to only use MUS Primer because it looked like a great introductory to counting etc. I will stick with Saxon as long as it works for this ds. My 13 yo ds didn't do well with Saxon, he prefers Teaching Textbooks. My oldest, who just graduated also preferred TT. I personally like Saxon so I am hoping my youngest will like it. :D
  13. I am currently doing MUS Primer with my 5.5 yo ds. When we finish the MUS Primer we will be moving to Saxon, but I am not sure if we should do K or 1? Any input???
  14. I use all Mary Kay. I don't really like the 3in1 Cleanser, but I love their Deep Cleanser and have used it for about 16 years! All the Timewise Age Fighting products rock! I used to have some acne scarring from my teen years and I used Mary Kay's Night Solution and they have all faded away so I am SOLD.
  15. During GW's presidency it was always a beef of mine that they called him Mr. Bush. Very rarely did I hear the media (except FOX) call him Mr. President. They would refer to Clinton as President Clinton in the same sentence they used "Mr. Bush." So, this is nothing new and I am glad to hear it is happening to Obama too. Equal and fair don't you know.
  16. For us history and science cost the most. Our history is literature based so the novels add up. The science projects and experiments bring the cost up for science. Math is in third place because we use TT and it isn't cheap.
  17. We have used WW for 4 years now and I love it. It doesn't take a lot of time and it is very thorough.
  18. When my oldest was in 9th we used Abeka's World Geography and it was great.
  19. Thank you for all the suggestions. I think I will try reducing the sugar and upping the flour slightly and see what happens.
  20. OK- what is the secret??? Every batch of chocolate chip cookies we make "deflates" when we take them out of the oven. They taste good but they are thin. My step dad uses the same recipe we use and his are cakey and yummy! How do I get thick, fluffy, cakey chocolate chip cookies?!?!?!!
  21. So, as I suspected there isn't really an all encompassing program since you all seem to be combining curriculums. The only one mentioned that I have heard of is Lightning Literature, but I don't really know any details. I will check them out.
  22. Does anyone have any suggestions for 9th grade English?? We are going to use Wordly Wise 9 for sure because we love WW. I am considering putting my own plans together because I specifically want to cover short stories, poetry, literary terms, grammar, novels and essay writing. I don't know of a program out there that will cover all this. Also, my son is still a little weak with dictionary skills (a mental block of some sort) and some grammar. Any suggestions?
  23. While I love the MOH books, the CD's are disappointingly dry. I love the Diana Waring CD's because she speaks lively and she is funny! My .02
  24. I usually get my RR orders within 2 weeks. I have ordered in August and September and the ship time was about the same except for the occasionally backordered item.
  25. You don't have to do Zoo 1 beforehand, but I would do the first chapter of Zoo 1 which is Classification. You can get that chapter free on the authors website.
