We started today and did not die. I do a slow buildup to full content, so they only did spelling and math today.
:lol::lol::lol:

I'm a sort-of creative mom. I try not to have much busy work, but when my kids get posters assigned to them as homework from their classes I get all excited. They have to remind me it is their project - not mine. Hmph.
-
Thanks for the reminder! We are about to have a guest who is both shy AND a non-native English speaker.
Glad you figured it out!
Where is your guest from? Listen very, very carefully it is so easy to miss what they actually mean. My international dd told me she liked cheese, come to find out she meant she DID NOT like it. I almost made lasagna today.

Sigh.... let's just say the highlight of the day was the coffee maker breaking. :glare:
Oh, no. You are coffeegal, too. How are you holding up? Go get a new and better coffee maker. :grouphug:

We're back (week 5 of school) after no school last week because of sickness. We're only 85% better, but Builder Boy was eager to start earlier than usual. Until I asked him to say an AWANAs verse (which he's known for a year) instead of reading it. :banghead: Just one of those things where you have to say,"well, that's not going to be finished today" and move on. The rest of the morning went well and we will have math and history after lunch.
Exactly. He's doing great for a 5yob. Good job, mom.

They have very, very good starter guitars for $100 at music stores or online. My ds bought himself an Epiphone for $99 and it is a quality instrument.
An acoustic Fender kit is also good. Technology has really come far. 20 years ago instruments of this quality would cost several hundred.

be sure to check their room when they say they are cold. I couldn't understand why the poor girl was cold. I chalked it up to her being very thing and getting used to our climate. So I went in her room to give her clean towels and the fan is still in the window from the day she moved in and it was in the 80s. Poor thing. I feel awful.

(Slightly modified report from my other thread where I was freaking out last night.)
We started school today. Both kids were very excited about starting. We have always had a chore time right before school but today the chore time went esp. well. Of course, I realize that it usually does at first before it becomes boring and like work and no one wants to do it.
Ds and I had a one hour Latin tutorial which went amazingly well. There were no tears of frustration or cussing, which is huge improvement on last year. Ds is now finishing up his one hour of independent morning work.
Dd and I had a one hour varied Language arts time that also went well, though she balked at some of it. I kept the areas that were hard for her short so that she was able to be stretched a bit without snapping. I'm figuring out what I'm doing on this as we go because I've never done the CM approach at this age level but I think this will work for us. She also had a one hour independent working time that went well.
We are on our 30 min. of recess before lunch and afternoon school.
That is great! I think we kind of do a combined CM/eclectic approach. Inserting kids into the plan is always the hard part. I'm so glad you had a good day.

We just trick or treat. Since it's an election year my dh always visits the houses of people with signs depicting his similar political views. Since it's the minority here he and the neighbors always get a kick out of it. I stay home and stay warm.

I don't think it would be too hard to explain that some men kidnap girls (and boys) for evil purposes. The men hurt these children and force them to do nasty things that God disapproves of. These children need prayers. There are some wonderful adults working to help them, but the need is very great.
There's plenty of prostitution mentioned in the Bible. Thankfully it seems to go over most children's heads.
I agree. When my kids asked why anyone would take them I told them as much as I could depending on the age. It stinks but it's something they need to know.

 You haven't had 'the talk' with her yet? She is 11?
That is so funny. When I told my oldest at 11 all my in-laws said it was too early. I taught the others earlier than that since once the knowledge is out in the family it seems others find out anyway.

:grouphug: Can you plan an easy first week when you are ready to start back? I think easing into it helps so much for everyone's morale.
-
How did it go?
Excellent day here so far. Kids are zipping through their work with ease. That will all change when they have homework from their outside classes to do next week and when the material we have at home gets harder. Still it cheers me up having a good first day since I really, really did not want to start. :D

I sent my daughter to the computer this morning to look up synonyms for a writing project. She had to come up with six things the wind can do, so she searched for synonyms for 'blow'. Synonym.com came up with this gem: "Blow: fellate, suck, go down on"
:blink::ack2::scared::sneaky2::angry::cursing::mad:
Are you kidding me?!
The internet is not safe for anyone! And this is with protective software!!
You may want to pull out the Thesaurus book and start using it. You can also get a digital dictionary.

We've had the same female pediatrician for 10 years. She's retiring and a male is taking over her practice. All my kids want to be with a woman since they loved this ped.

Without sharing too much -
It's just the typical 'he decided he didn't want to be a father, broke up with DD the day she gave birth, had a new gf the next day, current gf calls all of the shots' kind of thing.
I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

Yes, I fold towels a certain way. I do not allow my kids to ride a bicycle without good shoes - no sandals, flip flops or bare toes - I am afraid they will amputate their toes. My parents required the same of me. I've never met someone that had their toe amputated by a bicycle.

Can you take him out every hour or have a kid do it? Also, kennel him if he can't be watched.
Oh, my 4 year old pug just snuck into the living room and pooped on the "indoor lawn." Some breeds are harder than others. :(

Yes. I want everything to be just so, but the process doesn't always bring me joy :glare: I am rarely satisfied. WIth my kids, I tone it down, to be sure. I express a lot of joy with their creations, with their work, but I also am very clear when I think their effort and results are not as good as they should be.
I do very much, however, enjoy the PROCESS of homeschooling. It's one of the few things where the process is so enjoyable to me. But then I begin to think about "where they should be" and "what we should have accomplished this week" and the "process" aspect fades as i focus on where we fell short.
Oh, yes, this makes sense. I can get like this too at times. Something that really helps me is making a list at the beginning of the week, of tangible things I want to accomplish. A realistic list that I have decided on beforehand that will be 'good enough!'. No adding to the list as the week goes on! And if more gets done then that is just icing on the cake.
I think this is what keeps me going in hsing. If we get the basics done it's great. Some days when we get even more accomplished then we celebrate. We can't do it all or expect our kids to do it all.

It's okay. Seeing both perspectives is always a good thing. I appreciate your honesty.
No harm, no foul.
Is there some negative background going on between your dd and the baby's father? I don't understand why the father would be acting this way otherwise.
-
:grouphug:Maybe it is like the Christmas depression some get? You just finished some huge projects, fixed up the school room, planned your schooling, and of course insert kids and things aren't nearly as exciting as you though they'd be.

But the 'wives' might be having each other. :hurray:
Hmmm, I don't know. I don't think the wives are always happy. I caught part of one episode with the wives crying about the new wife and feeling insecure. They get paid to look happy.

Well you know what Kody says, "Love should be multiplied, not divided!" :tongue_smilie:;)
astrid
That only seems to work to his benefit. The wives aren't taking husbands. :tongue_smilie:
Anyone else start their first day of school today? Or even if you are continuing...
