  1. Fantastic news! Congratulations!!
  2. With legs it was larger than a dime. Abdomen was bulbous and tear dropped shaped but no obvious red. Tried to get a decent picture but was not about to let it get away while I ran for a better camera.
  3. Am I crazy or is anyone else just stinking excited about this one! I would LOVE to go on this!! http://moviepilot.com/posts/3344795?lt_source=external,manual Ack! I think I found my vacation for next year! Now to convince dh...
  4. I need to make an uber delicious Caesar Salad to feed 25-30 people. I never make Caesar salad due to my family's dietary restrictions so I don't have a good recipe. Can someone help me?
  5. I am having a hard time deciding between the Apologia high school science books and the BJU. I chose BJU Life for 7th and Earth & Space for 8 because the Apologia General Science had topics and a lot of labs that we has already done in previous years and BJU looked to be a harder course (which she wanted). It seemed natural to stick to BJU for 8th. Now that we are going into 9th I have had a few more experienced people tell me that Apologia is the more solid program (but they have not used BJU). I'm confused and hoping a few people could compare the two for me for 9th and up. I know Apologia does Bio for 9th and BJU does physical science. How similar is the BJU physical science to the Apologia one? Is one harder than the other? Better labs? Would one lead to better understanding than the other? And what about for grades 10-12? How do I choose for a child very interested in science but not 100% sure to pursue a STEM career?
  6. I am looking at Pandia Press Biology level 2 for a 6th grade child. We are travelling right now and Internet is spotty so I haven't been able to her a clear look at the samples. What does the give have to say about the grade level appropriateness of this program? Is it solid for 6th? A bit too easy? I've used all the elementary ones and found they were good for the lower end of the I stated age ranges (Life science was good for grade 1, too easy for grade 3, etc). Is this the same for the Bio level 2? Would I feel confident my child was getting a solid education if I were to go through this program with her in 6th, or should I look for something else? She has a good science background as I've been consistent with science in the past.
  7. It's been a while since I've researched math programs but I am needing to make a switch with a couple of kids. Could someone please compare Math Mammoth to Singapore Standards edition? Are they both fairly equally rigorous? How would they compare to something like BJU math? This is for early elementary- grades 1-4. Thanks
  8. My #6 is by far my hardest child, which is saying a lot. For me, I don't think it was the number of children, but the personality of each. If some of my middles had been born later in birth order, my tune would likely be very different. ;) 6 is hard, but if #6 were #1, I'd say 1 is hard! lol
  9. I officially quit my job today!! Turned in my resignation. Called my husband up on his cell; gave my 16 years and 2 months notice. This SAHM is. so. done.
  10. I completely missed this sale (my email went to my trash and I've not been on the boards lately). Can anyone tell me if this is something that audible runs from time to time or was it a one time thing that I should lament and gnash my teeth over having missed? :) I'm an audible subscriber and have a number of them in my wish list. Sigh. That's what I get from straying from the WTM boards and living IRL. Lol
  11. Yes, you are correct. I don't want to make any pretense of expense or go overly expensive but for some reason I am drawing a blank on what to give. haha. I don't actually like chocolate so that didn't even occur to me. :)
  12. I need to send a thank you gift to a family but I don't know them at all. They are exceptionally wealthy (they live in a multi-million dollar property) so I need this gift to be fairly high end and classy. I'm going to get each of the kids a small toy and place it in the gift basket but would like some items for the parents who are in their mid 40's. I don't want to do a gift card because any gift card denomination I could afford would simply be a drop in the bucket :tongue_smilie: . My first thought was some sort of wine but I don't know if they drink wine. Help!
  13. I keep reading your post and then checking their website and I am not seeing this. Where are you finding the more traditional class structure? Can you link it for me, please? TIA
  14. And the Cool Whip will hold? If it does, then that's good enough for me. Still a bit more cost effective than the extra pudding. And a bit fluffier too.
  15. Yes, I thought of that... but I think the whip cream adds volume while keeping costs down. I want it to be a fun snack, but not super expensive. Without the whip cream, I would need over $10 worth of pudding mix alone (I went to the store and priced it out). Whip cream and pudding mix would bring the total to $6. I know it's kind of pinching pennies, but I kind of need to at this time. :(
  16. This is ridiculous that I'm even asking this, but here goes: I need to make a snack for 30 kids and decided with my dc to make worms in dirt. I had thought that instead of using the frozen whip cream stuff that I would buy whipping cream and whip it in the KA mixer. I don't bake much and because we don't eat dairy, this is very unfamiliar to me. How long will the whipped cream remain stabilized for and can it be added to the chocolate pudding mix instead of the frozen variety? Or is Cool Whip better? Will the concoctions last for 2.5-3 hours or will the "dirt" under the cookie topping fall apart on me and become liquid? Any tips for doing this? I'm making small paper cups with about 1/2 cup worth of dirt and a couple gummy worms, if that matters. ETA: Just making sure if I use Cool Whip that it will hold together for a couple of hours?? That's good enough for me if it will. I don't want to use the cream cheese because the kids won't care for the taste benefit and I need to keep costs down. :)
  17. I'm going to register my dd for her first online Latin class and have decided to go with Lukeion. I am wondering if there is a strong preference between the two instructors (Fisher and Barr)? Being new to this, I would sure love to get some feedback as it is a pricey course. TIA!
  18. I should add I'm not saying your kids should not go out. I believe stomach viruses are one of the few diseases that are contagious AFTER symptoms appear, and not before. But if you are concerned about them becoming symptomatic while outside of the house, I personally would not rule tomorrow as "safe". I guess it depends on how much you would potentially enjoy cleaning out the inside of your car. ;)
  19. The incubation period for stomach flu is usually around 48 hours, although that can vary a lot. For example, my kids typically start getting sick on Tuesday mornings, thanks to exposure from church. ;). My experience has been when one child starts symptoms I give it a full 48 hours AFTER their last symptom before I breathe any sort of sigh of relief. There's usually that one day "eye of the storm" window where the first sick child is no longer puking but the rest have caught it but aren't symptomatic for another 24 or so hours. :( Depending how sick your hubby was on Sunday and was surfaces he may have infected it is possible (not saying likely, just that it's a possibility) that your kids could come down sick any time tomorrow. I read somewhere that surfaces can harbor the virus for up to three weeks and if a family has had a stomach virus that having people over for 3 weeks after can infect those people, even if the family themselves have been symptom free. I don't know how accurate that is but for *me* I personally won't invite anyone over for at least 2 weeks after, just in case. And I'm a big fan of bleach. Haha. To answer your question, when it comes to stomach viruses, I never feel safe. Lol. They're the worst and they're so darn contagious. :(
  20. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts, everyone. I greatly appreciate it. This didn't end how I had hoped and prayed, quite the opposite actually. It's a huge financial loss for us and real insight into how ugly people can be. I know eventually I'll stop crying and it's probably good I've lost my appetite as this sure took a chunk out of the grocery budget. Lol I could really use some continued prayers. This has really crushed me and my family.
  21. (((Hugs))) I'm sorry. I'll say a prayer. We are going through something really difficult too; I understand. I don't understand why people just can't do the right thing sometimes. Don't they realize the lives they ruin or even care? Sigh.
