  1. These are awesome, thanks so much for sharing!!!
  2. I think your son would enjoy Rightstart level B. Few worksheets and lots of fun games. My almost 6 year old son begs to do his math lessons, it's not only fun for him but he understands the work. Where we are in the book he is learnong to add 4 digit numbers with hands on materials. Rightstart level A gave him a strong foundation for telling time, level B also covers telling time. I hope you and your son find something that works for both of you!!
  3. Thats what we did! We bought the AAR level one teacher's manual, student activity book, and the readers. We use the same letter tiles that we use for my older children's spelling lessons. I made my own divider cards and we use an index card box we found at a thrift store. :thumbup1:
  4. Sounds neat, will have to check my library for it, thanks for sharing!!
  5. To me her handwriting looks great! I've tried different sized paper with my 7 yo son and it doesn't seem to make a difference. His handwriting is legible most of the time but I can't get him to focus on staying on the lines. :confused1: It's like he doesn't pay any attention to them at all. Any suggestions? His lowercase a's always look like q's too, but I think he gets that from his Dad. :glare:
  6. :seeya: We're in Jacksonville/Richlands area!
  7. My 5 year old is working his way through this one. It's black and white, I much prefer that over colorful pictures. My son loves it, each day he declares "I'm going to do my phonics!" I do not mind the writing work, my son's handwriting has improved greatly from the practice. I found it at a thrift store for I believe less than a dollar. A few pages were used but it was a great deal. Now I'm going to get level K for my 4 year old. We've never used ETC so I can't compare them.
  8. Thank you Boscopup for the links. =) From comparing the books of Core B, I don't see any of the books that I have. Here's what the lady gave me: For History: If your name was changed at Ellis Island If you lived at the time of the American Revolution If you grew up with Abraham Lincoln If you sailed on The Mayflower in 1620 If you grew up with George Washington George Washington's Breakfast Johnny Appleseed The 4th of July Story Early American History, A literature Approach A more perfect Union, The story of our constitution America's Providential History The pilgrims of Plimoth The winter at Valley Forge Jamestown Will you sign here, John Hancock? And then what happened, Paul Revere? Shh! We're writing the Constitution The American flag American Pioneers and Patriots History Pockets Colonial America The rest of these are Beautiful Feet Books: Buffalo Bill Leif the Lucky Pochontas Benjamin Franklin Abraham Lincoln Columbus George Washington
  9. Thank you everyone for your replies. It seems that she also gave us some of the books that came with it, mostly history and science and none of the readers. I still get confused when I try to understand Sonlight's lesson plans. I've never used a boxed curriculum of any kind, how would I start?
  10. Upon hearing that we homeschool, one of my husband's customers gave us a ton of homeschool books/supplies. Included was a Sonlight Teacher's Manual. Inside the first page says: Four Civilizations Basic Comprehensive Instructor's Guide and Notes It's a 2001 Edition, and I believe its for first/second grade. What can I do with it? I have no previous experience with Sonlight.
  11. We are using Spell By Color with my 7 year old "second grader". It is an understatement to say how much he enjoys his spelling work! :) Last week we did Week 4: hard vs soft g I am thinking we need to go back to Weeks 1 & 2 and review the words for those rules. He loves to write, so do we go back and have him copy down each of the spelling words and their exceptions? My son understands the rules but when he did Week 3: Review of Weeks 1 & 2, he had trouble being able to spell the words by himself(forgetting to put an silent e at the end of the words/not understanding when to use double consonants) He really does enjoy this program and I'd say the colors are a big hit here, seems to add fun to the lessons. Hey even I'm learning along side him. :D
  12. So here's what I've got planned so far... 2nd Grade Grammer: FLL(second half) Spelling: Spell by Color Writing: Copywork, will also be starting cursive Math: Singapore 1A Science: BFSU Geography: Evan Moor workbooks and read-alouds History: Read-alouds Kindergarten Phonics: Finishing up OPGTR, MCP Plaid Phonics workbook A Writing: Copywork Math: Rightstart level B Science: BFSU Geography: Learn the states and continents, free printables from internet, maybe a workbook(all my kids LOVE workbooks/worksheets) Pre-K Phonics: 100 EZ lessons, Bob Books, MCP Plaid Phonics workbook K Math: Will probably sit in with the math games from Rightstart B Writing: Tracing letters and words, tracing numbers(already knows how to write his name well) Will also be using various ideas from the internet(Brightly Beaming's letter of the week, Hubbard's Cupboard, and many more) Lots of read-aloud time, puzzles, playdough, legos, etc... 2 yo toddler He loves to be read to by me or his brothers. He is also interested in learning his letters(he calls them his ABC's). He has already picked up A LOT from his brothers. Will be using ideas from Bright Beaming's Preparatory Curriculum and Hubbard's Cupboard. Pretty much anything my 4 year old is doing, he'll want to be part of. I'm all :bigear: for any suggestions or opinions!
  13. We are planning to use Spell by Color with our 2nd grader.
  14. Today as my 7 year old son was working in a workbook, he said something very cute... He was writing the sounds that animals make, while working on the sound of a horse...he said out loud "neigh" and all of a sudden his 5 and 4 year old brothers started chanting "neigh, neigh, neigh!"... My 7 year old then says out loud "They are making my think go away!" He came and told me... "I had the word neigh in my head so I could write it without looking at the word, but now it's gone." That was just too cute not to share. :)
  15. They look great, I think my boys would enjoy these! Thanks for posting!
  16. I just came across these two links while searching for spelling curriculum/programs for 2nd grade. http://www.zaner-bloser.com/media/zb/zaner-bloser/spellingconnections/english2.html http://jettedgames.com/spelling.htm Has anyone used one of these?
  17. If I am not required to use the online form(which I thought I was) then how do I send the Notice of Intent?
  18. Thank you all for the quick responses! I just re-looked at the notice of intent form online and all I need to do for my son is mark that we have 1 boy the age of 7. Thanks again ladies, I know where to come if/when I have more questions! :)
  19. I've done this same thing with my boys, usually started when they were 4 but my newest 4 year old started more around 3 just because he wanted to. I'm thinking of using this same method to teach my 7 year old cursive.
  20. My oldest turned 7 in May, and here in NC that's the age that we need to inform the state that we are homeschooling. We have been homeschooling him since he was 4, that is when he first showed interest in writing, counting and things like that. Well now at 7 he is more than halfway through his 1st grade work. He is reading at a 2nd grade level, thanks to 100EZ lessons. My question is....when we fill out the Notice of Intent what "grade" do I list him in? :bigear: I'm all ears for any advice!
