  1. What the heck is that about? Are they paying an early-entry fee? Think I would borrow an iPhone and scan away.
  2. Thank you! How long do the DVDs take to receive these days? I'm considering the service for DD's schooling.
  3. Due to where we live, we can only get mobile internet service for our computer, which doesn't stream very well. Is it possible to pay only for Netflix's DVD service? If not, does anyone know whether you can let an entire movie download before playing it so there won't be any jumps, stops, etc. as it plays? We could do streaming, if we could allow the content to temporarily save to our computer first. Thanks!
  4. I first peel it (no, them...hah, as mine likes to pepper each book with stickers), then I use Goo Gone to remove the residue. Most books have a glossy coat on them, so the covers hold up. I also use a Clorex wipe on the covers. Used to wipe every page down when I was buying board books.
  5. I will admit, I have no idea what Goodwill is all about. I've always thought they were about supplying jobs for a specific group of people and providing used goods for cheap to those in need. Still think that if there is a sign posted that all children's paperback books are .30 cents and hardbacks are .50 cents, they should be. I also think there should be consistency, at least regionally.
  6. Oh, yeah. I love Amazon Prime. Totally helps me stay out of Wal-Mart.
  7. MOGO bracelets? Craft kits? Experiences/lessons for something? Zip-lining is fun and low-key. Maybe a couple of horseback riding lessons. Not sure where you live and what's available.
  8. I wish I could figure out what happened? It all seems bizarre. Why would that ship be so close to land? Was it pulling in to dock? Was it windy? Doesn't make sense. We've been on three cruises and are heading out again early March. Something is really off about the whole thing.
  9. No veggies? LOL! Usually, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, green beans, corn, etc.
  10. Even the crappy dollar store books that cost a $1 new at the dollar store? Eek!
  11. Getting so very annoyed with our Goodwill. All paperback children's books are supposed to be .30 cents. However, the past 6-9 months someone has decided that all of the good, higher-quality literary books should cost more. In many cases, a lot more. Today, I paid $3 for a regular ole paperback version of Strega Nona (wouldn't have, but I needed it for a lesson). Now, I can afford to pay this ever now and again, but it really makes me angry that they are pretty much ensuring that children from families of lower socioeconomic brackets are taking home junky dollar store books. The Goodwill about an hour down the road from me does not do this...all children's paperbacks are .30 cents like they're supposed to be. Off the seven children's paperback books I purchased today, only one was .30 cents. :glare: Anyone else's Goodwill up-charge for the "good" books?
  12. Hate it...always have. Stuart Little too! :tongue_smilie:
  13. Thanks for your insight! While I teach DD reading, handwriting and math to master, the fourth subject that we do each day is just to give her a general broad range of knowledge. I don't really expect for her to remember every last thing. I just want her have a basic introduction. She does have a pretty good memory, though. Sometimes, she'll talk about obscure things from when she was two or three and DH and I will look at each other and go :001_huh:. Is she really remembering that? We already read to hear a lot during other times of the day, so during our school time, I want to dive a little deeper.
  14. Thanks! Going to see whether I can order these from our library tomorrow. :001_smile:
  15. Not quite as activity-based as I was thinking, but I'm digging it. Hah! Any clue what the teacher's guides have in them? I'm going to try to dig up a better sample than what's on Rainbow Resources' site. Thank you so much for posting. I'm adding it to my short list. I bought this from Scholastic's current ebook sale and want to use it at some point, but I think DD needs an introduction to literary elements before diving into it. Your suggestion may fit the bill. :001_smile:
  16. I think this a little more than we need at the moment, but I just bookmarked it. Going to read up more on it a little latter. Thank you for the recommendation. :001_smile:
  17. Ok, I'm listening this time. LOL! I've not looked much in FIAR because we don't need curriculum for math, science and social studies. I'll check into it again for the LA component. Thanks!
  18. We do read and enjoy books. DD loves books, stories, fables, all of it. I've read to her since birth. As a result, books/stories are one of her passions. We do four subjects for school...reading, writing and math daily, plus a fourth subject that we rotate (science, social studies, art, Bible stories, and occasionally a little secular literature study). I'm trying to get more organized and plan out everything for a month or two at a time. I'm just wanting a little something with more substance for literature...something to do once every week or two. The previously mentioned setting lesson went over so well, I'm looking for more that is similar. Seems like it would benefit her in regard to reading/listening comprehension. DD loves school. She usually asks every morning whether today is a day we do school. When I say yes, she says yippee! I know, she's an odd child...she'd rather eat vegetables over cake and pie any day. She likes this kind of thing, so I'm trying in indulge her.
  19. LOL! I just like something to follow so I know I'm not forgetting anything. Actually, what I'm really looking for is more activity-based. I have a Mailbox magazine yearbook that has a setting activity in it for If You Take Your Mouse to School. There is a reproducible with some chocolate chip cookies drawn on it with story-related questions on them. DD answered the questions and then we discussed the setting. DD then drew a picture of the setting and made a thumbprint picture of a mouse on it. I'm looking for something similar to that. She loves that kind of thing. I know I can just tell her, but I try to make it as fun as possible. :001_smile:
  20. Not necessarily looking for full-blown curriculum, just a fun little resource book or something that I can use to teach DD about setting, plot, characters, moral of the story, etc. I need something on about the grade 1 level that doesn't involve a lot of writing. Secular, please. Any suggestions?
  21. Intriguing! Going to throw one into Amazon cart so I can remember them for one day.
  22. Anyone use this instead of the traditional binder page recommended in the WTM? Or, even in conjunction with? I'm thinking it might be great for the 1st grade study of animals? We're not to that point yet, so I'm just wondering. LOL! Instant Personal Poster Sets: My Amazing Animal Book Report
  23. Good one! Totally missed it because I sorted by K and then 1. Wondering what else I missed. Might have to go through everything. Thanks for posting! Ready-to-Go Super Book of Outline Maps Grades 4–8 Regular Price: $14.95 Sale Price: $1.00
