  1. I live here! I'm currently trying to figure out how to forbid the school from teaching him math and HSing math. Love the area though... Happy to talk if ya want!
  2. I attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, right up the street from Greensburg, just a couple of miles. Excellent school (Steelers training camp. They have a great communication and english dept and thus journalism. I had friends who were history majors also. The head of the History department is phenomenal. Seton Hill University is a great school as well. It is in Greensburg. i took a few classes here as they had an agreement with St. Vincent where you could take some there and vice versa. University of Pittsburgh branch campus is small and on the outskirts of Greensburg. It is good as well. The smaller classes really led to a real learning environment where you knew your instructors well and they knew you. A strong sense of community and family is felt on smaller campuses. It was incredible.
  3. Cool! I'll be checking this out for my son! Thanks!
  4. I can only wear gold ones or this happens to me. Actually, sometimes even happens with them, but way less of an effect. anything but gold turns mine red and itchy right away. and pussy.
  5. I have an 02 explorer. It's great, but killing me in gas. So I bought a 4cyl Malibu. Did the math, took the paid off explorer down to liability only. When it is all said and done, my $158/mo. malibu payment + gas + insurance is LESS than my 02 explorer's fuel. I kept the ford b/c I need it in the winter as I live in the mountains, and heck, its paid for. And the malibu can't haul what I need it to when I need it. BUT, I am Saving a LOT of money by having the new car. And, it's a 07 with 27000 miles on it and in gREAT condition.
  6. Sunlight flowers....I LOVE Marigolds and Petunias! Simple, colorful and pretty!
  7. Charcoal tastes YUMMYier to me, but gas is easier. We keep both around. :D
  8. Thanks! Being as I work, I'd like it if he could quietly work on my worksheets while they do math (far far away from evil math). I'm hoping, if I can work this out, to pull them an hour early or at least an hour early to me.....they get out at 3 so if I can figure out how to pick them up at 3 and keep teaching them till 4 which is when they'd usually get home on the bus, we can keep the routine and evening playtime the same. Now when hockey season kicks in, we'll have to figure something else out. I need to write a plan, you are right. I need to get organized. I just know their math is SO not working for him. I gave it a year and he gets it the "regular" way, not the new fandangled way.
  9. Hi! I'm new here. Our school adopted the Evil Math errrrr.....Everyday Math program and my son went from being able to do 4th grade math to not even at a 1st grade level. He's in 2nd grade. After looking up a few things, it looks like partial enrollment is an option in PA. I've already planted the idea in the principal's mind, now I need to figure out HOW to make this happen. So far, I'm fine with him remaining in school....and since I'm a single mom of 3, I need to keep my job during the day. I just want to be the one in control of their math program. Has anyone had any experience with partial enrollment? I told the princ. that if she was so opposed to it than I'd just HS them all together....No, she doesn't want that b/c then she loses money, so I think she'll comply. I don't know what I'm getting into, but I know I can't let them fail especially with that horrid horrid math program.
