  1. No, I don't think it counts as high risk. Many of us had bad morning sickness. There is nothing they can do. Some B vitamins helps some people but Dr.'s look unsurprised when told about the bad sickness. I've tried so many old remedies, none helped. I just had to wait the sickness out. My Grandma was severely ill her entire pregnancy, some people just are that way during pregnancy. Not everything has a quick fix, sadly.
  2. Oh good, thanks Crystal for the insight :)! I really love that the focus is on the Bible but thought it would be fun to add another topic too. Should be a fun year!
  3. Starfall has great interactive readers and they have a new interactive Kindergarten that I think is $30 for the year. I am so sorry you are feeling so sick. I get horrid morning sickness in the beginning months of my pregnancies and nothing helps. Lots of hugs.
  4. I am torn between MFW 1 and Winter Promise Animals and Their Worlds for this coming September. I love that MFW 1 is centered on the Bible but WP Animals and their Worlds just looks plain fun, we are definitely an animal loving family. I was curious if the two could be combined. I've read MFW1 can be completed in 3 hours. Anyways if anyone has done both programs or one or the other I would love your insight! Thanks :)
  5. I agree with you prices should be lower on .pdf's but I prefer them just because I have four kids that will be using the same curriculum so it ends up saving us to be able to print for all four kids. I do find .pdf's seem to go on sale much more often then books too. I got most of our Amanda Bennett stuff 40%-60% off with sales.
  6. I think messiness has a lot to do with how a person was raised too. I have always been disorganized. It like I have a mental block. My Mom was/is a clean freak and she would clean my room as a little girl. She liked to do things her way and not have help. She ended up leaving when I was 7. Suddenly I had to clean my room myself and I had no idea where to start. I spent a huge chunk of my childhood grounded in my room because my room was a mess. But the kicker was if I cleaned that entire thing from top to bottom but missed a sock that I didn't notice, I would be regrounded. I ended up giving up. Interesting enough my MIL had a very similar upbringing as me. Her Mom left when she was about 7. Her Dad remarried a woman who didn't like her. And interestingly she is very disorganized too. She has gotten a little better with age. My husband minds. He is a clean freak but I think he understands too. I have gotten better then when we first got married. Our first house was a health hazard. Now I vacuum daily, do dishes daily. But I have a long ways to go to being clean!
  7. I second this, her studies are just jam packed with stuff. She has Hoppin Popcorn on sale until the 21 for $4 right now. http://www.unitstudy.com/Specials.html
  8. Wow, there is a huge range of likes and dislikes, interesting. I wonder how much better the new version is? Choppy doesn't sound very appealing. Hmm. I wonder if I should make my own animal curriculum using the books they recommend? Their forum is pretty dead, I was hoping there would be more feedback on the newest edition there.
  9. Hello I am curious for those of you who used Galloping the Globe which resources you really liked or didn't like or found not necessary? Is the newest edition much different from the 2002 one? Thanks for your help!
  10. I live in Columbus. I moved from British Columbia, Canada (where I grew up), to the Dayton area (which I did not like) to Columbus which I've grown to like. There are a ton of State parks here which I love. I just can't feel at home without a chunk of nature close by. There are lots of used book stores and thrift stores here, two things I like for homeschool book hunting. The Zoo is really nice! It isn't the prettiest place but it is a nice place to live.
  11. We found out for our first three but didn't find out what the little one I am pregnant with now is. I like the surprise this time around but I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.
  12. I've never heard of the Kuffner books before. What are they like? Are they religious? They look interesting, thanks for mentioning them!
  13. Starfall.com is what worked for my daughter. She knew all her letters and sounds when she was two. I was using Starfall with her sister but she loved it and would waddle over and participate.
  14. I am happy with our original choice of MFW K but definitely felt we needed a little more to add on to it. We have done that now with Amanda Bennett and some other bits and pieces and now I feel really content. On those weeks where our original curriculum feels weak I have something that takes little effort on my part to fill in the gaps. :001_smile:
  15. For a two year old you definitely want Before Five in a Row. I like BFIAR a lot but not FIAR so much. The biblical aspect was not included in FIAR like it was in BFIAR. You have to buy a separate guide for that. Many of the books are out of print and very hard to find and VERY expensive to buy. I live in a big city with many libraries, our network does not have some of the books in its entire database. Most of the BFIAR titles are fairly easy to come by except four. FIAR put focuses some time on writer techniques/literary devices and art techniques for each book. Personally I think this takes away from the magic of a child's imagination. I don't want my daughter focussed on the writing technique rather then the story at her age. I think there is plenty of time for that when she is older and some of that early imagination has waned a bit, but that is just me. Many people love these lessons.
  16. I haven't found anything that pointed towards any denomination with MFW K.
  17. We have done Magnificent Moon, most of Christmas and are working on Winter Wonders now. Magnificent moon was packed full of stuff, if you are doing it will a K like I was you really need to go through it in advance and pick and choose what you want to use. I didn't and it was a bit overwhelming. We stretched it for more then a week and could have stretched it even longer. Christmas was a four week study and was great, it has a lower level and upper level section. Winter Wonders is just plain fun. I was reading her response to a negative review on her old Currclick page because of the heavy reliance on internet,(the reviews are still there but she doesn't sell there anymore) she said the internet links are there for our convenience. There is a huge book list in the beginning of the guide, so if you prefer to do it with books you can. I love personally love the internet links. Makes my day so easy, I can sit down with my kids and go through it. There are worksheets, movie links, information links. Most are 100+ pages. I am supplementing MFW with her units. It is giving us the little extra bulk I felt we needed. We also replaced a few MFW sections with her units. I usually don't get any extra books, unless we have some already in our possession. We did for Christmas but they were books I wanted to get even if we didn't do her unit. There is enough info in the internet links if you don't want to get extra books.
  18. I was on facebook and discovered Amanda Bennett is having all 12 days of her Christmas specials on sale again through the weekend. I skipped buying some earlier this week that I am excited to buy now. :)http://www.unitstudy.com/Specials.html I have no affiliation with AB I just like her stuff and thought some of you might be interested too.
  19. This is about the same for me, we strive for 5 hours a day. Our State has strict homeschool policies. If my DD was in a public school she would have a full school day, why should it be different if she is homeschooling? My State does not offer half day kindergartens.
  20. Thank you SOOOOO much for sharing!! I was looking for something just like this. Yay!!! :)
  21. I too have an HP, we buy refilled cartridges on ebay for $7 or less for color and $5.50 or less for black ink. My favorite ink seller is phil2268. He actually fills the carts unlike so many others I have tried. We haven't laminated anything yet. We bought these Crayola Dry Eraser activity centers to slip worksheets in. They work great. http://www.amazon.com/Crayola-Dry-Erase-Activity-Center-Zany/dp/B00294J43Y/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1325567581&sr=8-10 When you are done with the worksheet, they can just be tucked in a binder to be used later. My only recommendation is to not use the dry eraser markers that come with the centers, I have read they stain. I just use some cheap ones I got on amazon. I've read that some people just slip their worksheets in a heavy duty page protector and use a dry eraser marker on that. There are lots of ways to make printed curriculums much cheaper. : )
  22. I had to email currclick once about a different issue and they were really quick to respond. Hope you get an answer soon!
  23. We recently bought http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com's K4 curriculum for my 4 year old and it looks great and is cheap ($10 for the download) and we plan on getting her PreK: Letter of the Week program ($10 download) for our almost 3 year old. My four year old is a bit advanced for the Letter of the Week as she already knows her letters and sounds. We also plan on doing Before Five In A Row with my 3 and 4 year olds. I like it much better then their Five in a Row program although some of the books are out of print and very hard to find. Forgot to mention starfall.com. My daughter knew her letters at 2 thanks to Starfall. I was using it with her older sister and she would toddle over and watch it with us and ended up learning them too. It is a fun, free program. We have started doing it again as it has a reading section for my oldest and we have started doing the alphabet part with my almost 3 year old.
