  1. When I bought my kitchenaide mixer 13 years ago, it came with 2 bowls. I use both bowls often, and believe or not, wish I had a third bowl.
  2. My son has had reflux since he was born. We mix some acidophilus powder into his milk in the morning and it seems to make a huge difference. We limit the amount of junk food he eats and are more careful during "flare ups." For some reason, he always hits a growth spurt right after a particularly bad flare up. The doctor says there is no connection, but it seems more than a little coincidental.
  3. We alternate between the Logic Liftoff series, Venn diagrams, Perplexors, and Balance Benders. The boy loves them all!
  4. Most low carb diets call for about 40 - 50 grams per day for the first 2 weeks - the induction period - and then increase somewhat after that phase. You may also want to look at some of the Paleo diets as they are also low carb. There is a great website www.carbsmart.com that also has informative articles listed under the carbsmart magazine section. You will find that after the first week or two on low carb, you no longer have the carb cravings.
  5. We finished SM 6A and 6B and hated every last second of 6B. We moved to Keys to Algebra and love it! The explanations are wonderful and my son now loves math again.
  6. I am a stay at mom. I run 9 on-line business, run my house and do a lot of volunteer work, all while homeschooling. We are classical homeshoolers - so we have pretty intense days. I love being a stay at home mom. There is sacrifice in everything. In my case, I sacrifice some of my "me" time. I make sure I take time on the weekend to make sure that the lesson plans are done for the following week, I update and post a calendar for the family, and then write my meal plans and any shopping lists. That said, I make sure to carve out a little time every week away from the family. Sometimes it's dinner with my girlfriends or maybe just grabbing a book and heading out Starbucks for an hour or two. We are never bored and always have something to do or someplace to go. The truth is, as homeschoolers, it is very easy to over schedule as there is always something or somewhere wonderful to go. You don't need to make all of these decisions right away. You're putting way to much pressure on yourself. The simple fact is that as homeschoolers, we decide for ourselves what works best for our families - and most importantly, we have the ability to change what's not working.
  7. It sounds like she would like to skip remainders and jump to fractions. We had a similar situation and decided to fast forward to fractions for a few weeks and then go back to remainders. We used Keys to Fractions which is four, 25 page comsumable booklets. They did a phenomenal job presenting the material and ds loved it! In fact, we started using the various "Keys" books as unit studies between Singapore books. We are finished with Singapore and at 10 years old - we decided to do Pre-Algebra in a more relaxed fashion so about a month ago we started the Keys to Algebra and he has already finished book 2 out of 10. The Keys books truly boosted his self-confidence and enjoyment of math.
  8. We are big fans of Word Roots by Critical Thinking Co. It is a bit less expensive through Rainbow. There are available in consumable workbooks, flash cards, or dvds.
