  1. The Activity Guide has so much more than just the coloring pages. The activities in it really go nicely w/ the chapters. Here's what we did - my girls would color the picture for the chapter while I read it aloud. After the discussion questions, we'd do one activity per chapter - maybe 2 if there was another really good one. I think the activities were their favorite part. They made the chapter 'real' to them. I'd highly recommend it. :)
  2. A big hit w/ my dds (9 & 10) was the Warriors series by Erin Hunter - they've read them all!
  3. Have you looked at A History of US by Hakim? Excellent curric. - highly recommended :)
  4. We've bought quite a bit from Children's Books - the website is childsbooks.com shipping is nice & cheap too - that's a bonus :)
  5. I didn't buy mine at a grocery store, but the ones I've seen are almost the exact same size as a brown paper sack. I bought 12 canvas bags on Ebay & they are much bigger & have nice long handles too. I paid $35 or so w/ shipping. At Sams Club, they are happy to put the groceries in there - and at the regular store, I'm always the one bagging anyway, so no extra trouble there. I usually get stopped on every trip by women asking where they can get some. HTH
  6. That's the most frustrating part - I looked on our computer last night at the library catalogs of our 3 surrounding counties and NONE of them carry it. Strange. :confused: Thanks for your advice, ladies. I'll keep lookin'.
  7. Yes, that's the DVD I've been looking for. None of our libraries have it - and we are near a BIG city. I looked at Blockbuster & Netflix and neither one of them carry it either. Hmph. Was it good? Would you recommend it?
  8. I have purchased this set and have found the pbs website that accompanies them......BUT, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can watch the series. I haven't found a place online to watch or even a place where I can rent them. I'd rather not buy them, but I may have no other choice. Turning to you wise ones, hoping you can help me out.   10. Oh, I hope that's not what you have. My mom gets them about 3 times a year. She says it's a terrible pain in the lower back & a little around the sides. It's a constant pain for here until she passes it - accompanied w/ nausea & vomiting. Drink lots & lots of water - there's really no other remedy. Hope you get relief soon :)
  11. Every day here too. I have soon to be 4th &6th graders. Sometimes I assign 1 page per day - sometimes 2 or 3 pages....depends on the amount of questions per page & whether or not concept is grasped quickly. :)
  12. Put a sock in it ;) Doesn't that sound snotty?? :) No really, try wearing them around the house - the good one w/o a sock & the snug one with. It might be uncomfy, but after awhile it should be stretched. Let us know what works!
  13. We went from RME right into Pathway Publishers readers. We started w/ the pre-primer & have worked our way up. They were more than ready for the next step. HTH :)
  14. Because all school districts vary on what they teach when, I would just do a couple searches for scope & sequence to see what is 'normally' taught in each grade. We know that there may be things we haven't covered on the ITBS each year, but it's never shown up on our results that we're lacking in any certain area. We were low on capitalization in our results last year, but that's only because we weren't studying it til this year. Now we're right where we should be again. I would discourage 'teaching to the test' only because it disrupts the continuity of what they've learned so far & making a smooth transition (especially in terms of history dates & info) is so important. Just my .02 not meant to sound bossy :)
  15. We used the book 'Times Tales' and - no joke - my girls had their facts 6-9 memorized in 1/2 an hour. Give it a try :)
  16. I'm not sure if this will help you, but I print off pages from donna young's website - and create my own planner. Here is a link to various pages http://www.donnayoung.org/forms/index.htm I put the entire year in a 3-ring binder w/ page protectors & write my schedule 2 weeks ahead of time - that way I can make changes & adjustments if I need to. Hope that helps you - or gives you another option.
  17. We do eye exams at the clinic - because then we only have to pay our co-pay & not the whole exam fee at, say, Walmart. Then, we take our prescription to a discount store, like Costo, Walmart or Vision World. VW is where we went last time because you could get 2 pair of kids glasses for $99 - quite a bargain.

Sorry to steer you in a different direction & if you have to make a Rainbow order anyway it might be best to add it to your order, but just wanted to share for future purchases :)
  19. That's funny! My hubby would disagree (since it's his car) he tries to say how 'sporty' it is - we could compromise & say it's a really athletic pig??:tongue_smilie:
  20. Let me also add that our Toyota Yaris consistently gets between 38-40 mpg. The best we've seen out there that isn't a hybrid. Plus it's pretty cute ;)
  21. We looked at the Honda Fit, but bought a Toyota Yaris instead. We couldn't be happier with it - super gas mileage, roomier inside that it looks, and the reliability & reputation of Toyota. HTH :)

  25. I'm so glad that people recommended Reading Made Easy!! I used this with my daughters & it was fabulous! We jumped from this book right into Pathway Publishers readers. Hope you love it as much as we did :)
