  1. Yes, I did try, but for some reason it's not showing me the pages? Maybe because I'm on my iPad, I don't know.
  2. Is the lab notebook a must? I'm getting the teacher and student texts used at a great price, but the lab books are $20 new! Yikes. If I can use a notebook that would be great...can it be done that way or is the lab notebook essential to the program? Thanks!
  3. We do. I fee like my dd(6) needs a little extra help, as she is a late reader. So we are working through The Reading Lesson and AAS, and will soon be starting OPG in addition. Each lesson only takes 5-10 minutes, and I spread them out throughout the day, so it's not bad at all. I want to help her gain some confidence in reading, as its hard for her, and I think the constant practice and review will help. :)
  4. A third vote for the Reading Lesson book. We've tried EVERYTHING. She hated all phonics instruction. It was boring and dry and frustrating. TRL is still kind of boring, but the book is very simple and not busy at all, which helps. She is finally starting to read!!! This is the kid who knew the letter sounds by three, yet couldn't put them together to read! AND as a bonus and testament to TRL, my 3 year old dd2 has started working through it (very slowly, and all because she wants to 'do school' like her sister) and she is already reading words using the letters she was taught..prior to starting TRL she didnt know any letter sounds, so think it's pretty neat! Anyway, I think it's worth a try. It's definitely not as comprehensive as OPG, but it will get your child started and build their confidence. That is exactly what my own dd needed. I do plan to switch to OPG when we finish TRL.
  5. Permission granted...we are doing American history this year and possibly next, then an intense world geography year, and THEN starting with SOTW/MOH. We will only go through the world history rotation twice this way, but she will be older and we will be able to really in depth and she will retain more IMO. :001_smile:
  6. Oh I forgot to also add, this is for my first grader, if you have any really great vintage resources, I'd love to see them!
  7. Download or save books from Mainlesson.com onto my iPad? We will be going outbox town for a week, and I'm not taking our HS books, but would love to continue some schooling via free resources online. I'm concerned about not having internet access, for example on the plane. It would be great to have things on iBooks or in the kindle app or PDF format so I don't need Internet. Is that possible? Forgive me if it's a dumb question, I'm not very up to date on computer lingo lol.
  8. I loved the one Satori linked about making the blood with red hot candy, corn syrup, and beans! Can't wait to try that with dd. I figure lots of us have favorite and memorable hits we've done, so maybe this can be a sharing thread of sorts? :001_smile:
  9. I think dd(6.5) would love some more games for my iPad. I'm thinking if I get the logic types ones, I can count it as school lol. The girls each have half hour that they can use the IPad so that I can take turns working one on one with the other. I have some preschool games for dd(3.5), but need some harder ones for my older dd. Anyonenhave suggestions? Thanks!
  10. Yes! I am so insanely jealous of your incredible talent!!! Wow. It is all breathtakingly beautiful. Are you for hire?:tongue_smilie:
  11. I'm currently using Miquon and it's working fantastically for us. However, I'd like to start planning for what to switch to next. I've heard a lot of positives about the MEP program and it's free so that's a huge plus as well. Is it enough to be a stand alone? Or is it more something to do in addition to another program (thinking about Singapore if MEP isn't enough)? Does it provide a good text for teachers, or is it more just workbook type pages for the kids to work through? Would it work for a whole to parts kid? Should I print off the year 1 level and start doing that in addition to Miquon so she gets used to this method? Would she be able to go from Miquon only to MEP only? Sorry for all the questions...:tongue_smilie: Thanks!
  12. A friend of mine suggested maybe dd learns this way...I'd also love an explanation or webpage where I can read more!:)
  13. Anyone else use it? I'm reading mixed reviews on amazon, so now I'm doubting this choice...just need to know if I should go ahead and get OPGTTR or stick with TRL...thanks!
  14. Thank you! So what age/grade would you put this in? I'm just starting AAS with my 6.5 year old, should we wait until next year for Wheeler, or add it in together? Thanks!
  15. I can't find this in google books...can anyone post a link? I would be very grateful!!!:)
  16. I got this as part of my HOD kit and am wondering if it is a good phonics program...my dd has until now resisted any and all phonics instruction, but now that she is starting to read she is more open to it. I am wanting to know if this is a thorough stand alone phonics program or if I should go ahead and get OPGTTR. Thanks!
  17. Honey terryaki chicken, baked sweet potato fries, spring green salad with ginger dressing, and edamame. Yum.
  18. Bill, thank you so much for your insight! I appreciate you taking the time to share. :) Is MEP the free online math program? I may try to add that in with what are doing now... I also have Rays Arithmetic that I might try to add in a few times a week...just wanting to cover all my bases lol.
  19. I'm thinking ahead here, but if you've used Miquon, what did you move to after? I believe it will take us through third grade, so I'm looking for upper elementary-high school. What programs are compatible with the philosophy? Tia!
  20. Can you recommend some of the vintage grammar texts for a young child? Thanks!:)
  21. She is 6.5...an emergent reader. I really liked the look of WWE, but I haven't looked at FFL...also, the book I saw had the teacher section in the front and the student pages in the back of the book. I think that now they are separate books right?
  22. Are both of these necessary? What do each of them teach? I am at the bookstore looking at WWE and it seems to cover narration, grammar, and copy work...what does FLL cover? If you were to pick one, which one would it be? Thanks!
