  1. i have a "walmart figure" out of that comes all food, toiletries, and clothing. i generally do not buy clothing for my children. if we Need something that hasn't been bought on a shopping trip with grandma, then we go to the goodwill for it. Homeschool books are always purchased used and I never purchase any non-core book that i can get from the library. we use and overuse the library and the goodwill. but i'm a single mom. when you get to budgeting out of necessity, it's easy to make changes.
  2. i entered nursing school when my husband left us, though i already had a degree. i have just finished and am working and homeschooling. when he left i was working 2 jobs and homeschooling, and in court. it's not as pretty as it used to be but i'm thankful my kids are a little older--past the learning to read stage and have learned to be self directed. i'm in the middle of planning out the entire year on paper so there is a plan for the times i am not with them. it's lonely, and i'm exhausted all the time. but i'm called to it. and i'm very very thankful i can. i've never had time to be on these boards. i'm rejoining so i can sell some materials. is there a place we can connect? not too computer saavy to know how these things work. :)
  3. i've always chosen something from donna young's website to fit my needs. i'd like to say i could come back here and find something better, but i'm not that organized. i'm envious of all you talented mamas.
  4. I have a 3rd grader and a 1st grader. History is the one thing we do well. We have done mystery of history 1 and 2 and we love it. I have filled in at the end of the year with SOTW in order to stay on the timeline track recommended by well trained mind. I can hardly bare the thought of not doing mystery of history next year, but volume 3 only goes to the year 1700 I think it is and i'm supposed to get to 1850 this year. it is kind of a big price tag for us for just the 100 years we will get out of moh3, and then i feel the 8 year plan will be derailed. i'm not real excited about just doing SOTW instead. What would you do if you were me? it is such a fascinating 100 year time period, but how can i devote a whole year to do that book--what would i do with the well trained mind plan? do i just wait to do moh3 the second time around? i've been sweating this for the last 3 months and i need to make a decision and lay it to rest!
  5. it's magic the way i can get answers to my deepest questions in seconds. thank you everyone! one more thing--my sister made the email to be her actual name. is that a bad idea? are we supposed to disguise our email addresses?
  6. i woke up this morning and discovered my sister had already gotten my 8 year old daughter on the phone and showed her how to login to an email account that she had set up for her. i'm not up to speed on these things. besides the face that it's overstepping her bounds--do i want this for her? if it's only my family sending her emails is it still dangerous? what should i do?
  7. I need a suggestion for teaching my 8 and 5 year old about money. saving, tithing, that kind of thing--not the value of a quarter. someone told me about an evan moore product but i haven't been able to find out what it is. i don't have money HA! so i don't want to buy an expensive kit. something simple. anybody doing it right???? thanks
  8. i'm kerry. i just found this forum and i'm so glad. i just have to figure out a way to tear myself away and get beauty sleep. if you could see me you'd say amen right now. i live in nebraska and know a few homeschoolers but only one WTM woman. i have 2 girls 8 and 5. school is the best thing i got going now. especially Mystery of History and bible. i'm not sure what else we do. we're waiting for an eternity for our adoption from china and it's probably a good thing since we don't have anywhere near the amount of money we need to finish. but we've been praying for "kate" for 2 years now and she's probably not even born yet. (it's complicated). i work all day for my husband who has his own sprinkler company. i don't really have any skills. i can't even keep my kitchen floor clean. but i would like to tell the world about Jesus and green smoothies.
  9. i'm so glad i'm finally over the terror of "what if you break WTM schedule for chemistry in 3rd grade?" and have gone with my heart to do like you--apologia science. the book makes me think about summerschooling. almost.
  10. not to delight in your misfortune, but this thread is providing me with late night cheer. i relate all too well and i thought i was alone!!
  11. has anyone recommended Mystery of History to you? It's one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I'm not kidding. And my kids beg for more.
  12. i sent you a reply and just now noticed the ages! so i would change my answer by using those same brands just picking the multi more suited to their age. and change the acidophilus to a product called PB8. sorry to confuse things.
  13. I've done a lot of research. I give my kids Nature's Plus animal parade chewable multi-vitamin. and I also give them nature's plus ACIDOPHIKIDZ. I buy both of these at vitacost.com or luckyvitamin.com. I rotate those with a product called LIQUID HEALTH children's multi. I think i bought it from luckyvitamin.com. the liquid health is a liquid. i put it in a swallow of dark juice (cranberry/raspberry) or something like that so they can't see the color and they swallow it like a shot. can i just add that every day we have a green smoothie--blend spinach/kale/ swiss chard and frozen fruit and a little juice in a blender. please try it you won't believe how good it tastes and it's better than vitamins.
  14. WOW. that's service. thanks for your replies. now it makes me want to ask one more thing. I chose Rod and Staff because S.W.B. said that if you do this curriculum you wouldn't need a supplemental writing program. Then she published FLL3. But I haven't been able to see a good description on this book. If I do FLL3 does that mean I don't need a supplemental writing program or not? The workbook for FLL3 is consumable right? thanks everyone
  15. I've been debating between first language lessons 3 and rod and staff english. I think I've decided on rod and staff solely because of cost--I'm hoping to pick up an affordable used copy. This is my question: Do I need the teacher's book or will I be fine with just the student book(s)? My question applies to grade 3-6. Thanks, this is my first post!
