brandigirl replied to SarahKate's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
This looks like a really good schedule. You are a year ahead in math which is really good. Just make sure not to burn yourself out. Just wondering have you saxon before because I am wondering if I should use it this year for Algebra 2 :tongue_smilie:. -

brandigirl replied to brandigirl's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Oh I can see how that was misunderstood. Even though I did not undertand the class I did learn Algebra 1. I taught myself Algebra 1 and some of Algebra 2 over the summer.:001_smile: I was able to do really well so I actually have a good undertsnading of Algebra 1. Thank You so much for your input -

@Teachin'Mine I know that it is hard to jump into Saxon that's part of the reason are started looking at teaching textbooks. Any other curriculum reviews:tongue_smilie:? -

Algebra 2 Curriculum
brandigirl replied to brandigirl's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I looked over the kinetic books and they seem really good but I don't like the fact that they are all online. I took a course with keystone this year and what saved me was that they included a textbook along with the online course. I do much better with an actual text that I can refer to. But at the same time i learn really well from videos which is why teaching textbooks looked so good to me. It had the videos and they text. -
Algebra 2 Curriculum

Trust me I will be going nice and slow using the summer to work also. I wish I new what branch of the medical field I was going into but I am so undecided. I am even kind of considering law. So since I am undecided my goal is to do the maximum in every subject with good grades so that I won't shut out any of my options any more reviews?:001_smile: -
Algebra 2 Curriculum
brandigirl replied to brandigirl's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
@dhudson I was kind of hoping that I would not have to supplement my curriculum because I don't want to have to pay for extra books but I will still look at LOF @LuvingLife I am very interested in the Medical field. I was thinking that I could do Teaching Textbooks Algebra 2 and Pre Calculus this year. So I would cover everything get 2 credits and learn all the topics. I am planning on AP Calculas in my 11th grade year so I think that if I do Teaching textbooks this year and do two years of AP Calculus that will be fine. Anymore input on this? @AngieW in Texas I will definitely look into this. May I ask why you like it so much. -

Homeschooling for highschool
brandigirl replied to brandigirl's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Hey guys well I thought everything was decided but then I started looking at Apologia Advanced Chemistry. Has anybody had experience with this? Also would it qualify as an AP course??? -
Hi I would like to help since I was in 9th grade this past year with keystone online school. I am finishing up now so I have a heavier workload. But on a 36 week schedule it takes like 3 hours to finish and submit everything. This was my schedule: AP World History Honors Biology Geometry Honors English Digital Media Spanish 3 Mind you or the AP World History reading and highlighting the text is not added to this schedule. Oh and if I may add since your probably going to take Spanish check out books from the library in Spanish and practice reading them. they can be at a kindergarten level but it will help.

Favorite Planning Method-paper or computer?
brandigirl replied to smilesonly's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I like good old paper in a binder . I love everything color coded and marked. I unfortunelty have the memory of a goldfish :lol:and forget page numbers and such but will never forget formulas in math or dates in my history lesson. -
Hi I recently found this book http://www.ck12.org/flexbook/chapter/2314 which comes with a teachers guide and other resources for free. The subject I am using it for is Chem. I will basically be using it to learn as much as possible so that when I start AP Chemistry this fall I will be more prepared. Does anybody have a syllabus for this course or book?

I think its just fine I live with my sister mom and dad in a 40ft motor home (we travel) None of us even have bedrooms . Except my mom and dad all the way in the back. So I think she will be just fine for one year. What might be bothering is that she is still going to be living with you for a year and she might feel like she already left. Since everyone is planning around her :001_smile:

I had a great experience with keystone and am mainly making the switch due to costs. The program is solid though the AP did have a bit of busy work. About 3-5 assignments a week. The only teacher involvement in this course is if you bother to email or call them in which they will respond within 24 hours hope i helped!:001_smile:

Thank You both for your answers has anybody else taken FLVS classes?:001_smile:
-
Oh wow thank you for all these post. @Kate in FL No I have not taken any courses with FLVS. I like block scheduling but it has its disadvantages if you don't like the class. As far as hurricanes go well theirs not much I can do :leaving:. @2cents Thank you so much for explaining how the courses work. It does make sense that that It would be hard to juggle all of the teacher calls and discussions. But I have taken 6 online courses with keystone which are just like FLVS but without the teacher calls. If I put in extra hours 7 days a week how soon do you think I can finish the courses? I am just wondering. @BeckyFL Yes I do live in Florida and the fact that they are free is a big selling point. :001_smile:

Thank You so much for that information. Can you please tell me how the courses work. Like a typical day and what the test are like. Thank You :001_smile:

Comprehensive list of online classes
brandigirl replied to Josie's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Keystone Online High School is very nice. I took a full course load with them this year. I took honors and AP classes. The AP classes were good and you learned a lot but had a lot of work. If you spread the work out evenly, its 3 assignments a week with about a chapters worth of reading. It really teaches you everything.:D -

I will look that up for math. As far as AP Chemistry I have done many sample lessons from different resources and understood them well. I have taken an AP class before and even though they are faced paced I like the fact that they elaborate in topics. I used to hate reading a textbook that would leave me wondering and having go off to the internet to learn more about it. I never really did this for math:D.I usually don't have this problem with AP textbooks. I will definitely look into the Lively Art of Writing because I love to write essays. Any other suggestions or tips :bigear:
