  1. My husband also said that he found all sorts of pills (pharmacudical looking) loose all over the refridgerator and kitchen floor area and the baby is 71/2 months old and does crawl. Also he found that all the knives (just regular bread and butter knives) were burned at the end. I have no idea why. Strange. Maybe it is a drug thing. Her mom said that she was into heavy drugs when she was younger. We have taken pictures of the suite and a video as well. Maybe we will email the tennants mom and ask if we can help her in any way with regard to child and family services. The tennants mom also mentioned to her social worker that she was evicted for not paying rent but we will also send a letter stating the facts.
  2. Thank-you for the replies. I just hate to be the tattle-tale but I absolutely know that the mom needs help of some sort. Maybe this will put her on the right path?
  3. Oh, and I frogot to mention that we suspect her or her friends of dealing drugs from the suite judging by all the strangers that have come by late at night and have only stayed for 2-3 minutes. When they come by many of them introduce themselves as if they have never met before, stay a couple of minutes by the door and then leave.:001_huh: Of course I can't be sure and I have no concrete evidence to back up this claim. It is just a suspicion.
  4. Yes, it was absolutely her. I hear her friends swearing at her about what a slob she is and how she is letting herself go. All the dirty clothes strewn all over the suite are hers (I doubt those guys wear such large bras) even though there is an in suite high efficiency washer and dryer for her exclusive use. And certainly a normal human being would clean some dishes over the span of 3 months instead of just throwing them dirty into all the empty cupboards. About calling, I have not made up my mind at this point. I think that having a child taken away would be the worst thing in the world and I don't want to bring this on ANYONE unless the child would be much better off. It is tough because she does pick up the baby when the baby cries and that is the most important thing but I have noticed that she is getting worse and worse.
  5. We had a tennant with a 4 mo. old baby girl move into our suite in May. We had to evict her this month due to non payment of rent. She paid the rent for the first 2 months but never paid the utilities. The last month and a half she didn't pay rent or utilites. She is on government assistance so the government pays her rent and utilities to her and she is supposed to pay her landlords but I think she bought an iphone and a plasma tv instead. It sucks not to recieve the rent money but that is a side issue. The thing that I am concerned about is the baby. I really believe the mom loves her baby and the baby rarely cries and when she does the mom does pick her up and the baby settles quickly. So that is a load off my mind. What has me concerned is the friends that the mom has. She just turned 18 and all her friends are young stupid guys. In the 3 months and 12 days that she lived in our suite the police have been here 3 times. Her friends get drunk and smoke pot and cigarettes around the baby swear and fight. They are out at all hours of the night with the baby in her stroller. There are MANY different guys that stay overnight and she is, well, knowing them all. Up till a couple days ago I was still thinking that this was not enough to report her to child and family services- until she moved out. When we got into the suite I don't think I can begin to describe what we found. The smell was atrocious! We discovered rotting food everywhere. She never did dishes she just threw the dirty ones into a cupboard and got more dishes. the sink was 2 inches deep in rotting food there was filthy clothes all over the place. A perrier bottle full of urine on the night table. Smashed and broken mirrors and garbage everywhere. A box for the new plasma tv in the corner. She left her boxspring, a television, tones of clothes and junk all over the place- you couldn't see the floor. We also found a police document charging her with assault in June (she was released on a promise to appear in court) There were boxes of used pregnancy tests all over the place (we counted 3 large case lot type boxes). Cigarettes were put out onto the walls- and the smell!! I couldn't even step inside. You could smell the smell of the suite all the way across the yard. So in just over 3 months our meticulously renovated suite went from stunning to a complete biohazard. The tennents mom came by with a pick-up truck to take some of her daughters things away and even though she filled the truck it hardly made a dent. Her mom confided to my husband that she was trying to get the baby taken away from her daughter but that she had to go through legal channels or her daughter would be at her door all the time. The other thing is that she is the best liar that I have ever encountered. She has repeatedly lied to us making full eye contact and she filed a false police report about her rent being stolen (we overheard her frinds talking about how she "blew" her rent). She lies compulsively even when there is no benefit to lying. So, do you think it would be in the best interest of her baby to be removed from this situation? She has now moved in with friends though we found out that she told her social worker that she decided to move into a new place and still was paying rent (which undoubtedly she is not. She did not tell her that she wa evicted. Would you report her?
  6. I would probably feel out the situation at the door. I would want to know what allegations they were following up. If it was bruises on a certain child or something of that nature I would bring the child to the door and they could have a look and talk to the child. Now, if it was an excepional day and all the kids were doing what they were supposed to be doing and my house was spotless then by all means, come in a take photo's becuase I would also like a record of something that amazing.:D
  7. I like what Paul Washer has to say about him- Well, he doesn't mention his name directly but you can be sure of what he is talking about when he says "your best life now." I think the message that Joel Osteen preaches is very deceptive and yes, I would call him a wolf. My sister went to Joseph Prince's mega church in Singapore for the year that she was there and he is the same deal as Joel Osteen. There is a reason why these prosperity churches are so huge at this time when it is clear that "people will not endure sound doctrine."
  8. I was just checking it out myself. You need to click on the book that you are interested in and there will be samples. Here is the 3A sample: http://www.beastacademy.com/store/product/3a
  9. How does it work? I'm sure I am waaayyy behind the times but I thought it was workbooks that you order and have your kids do. I didn't know there was a story?? And the big question is: Is is fun?
  10. We have a Sienna XLE and ours has over 200K as well. It is true, we only ever do regular maintenence on our van. Nothing breaks. We had a Caravan before this and oh boy! All we did on the Caravan were repairs- constantly. Our van has a excellent sound system and really, it mostly anoyes me because the bass is so...there. I feel like the whole van shakes when I turn it up a touch and when one is trying to listen to the Jungle Book audio book it can be rather overwhelming (and yes, I have the bass turned way down in the mixer). Everyone is different though. The feature that I would never want to live without are the leather seats. I shudder to think what cloth seats would look like after all the catastrophes that seem to happen with my crew (if they spill, you wipe it. If they throw up, you wipe it).
  11. I was looking at the program a couple of days ago on the co-op and it looks like a fab program! I want it for ME (and I guess my teen can paticipate too).:D I was thinking that it would go well with LLftLOTR.
  12. Something really turns me off of e-readers for kids and I think it is the fact that kids like to turn pages (adults too). There is something theraputic about finishing a page and turning the page. Also, holding a book and feeling the number of pages that you have read on the left side and the number of pages that you have remaining on the right side gives a tactile awareness of where you are in the scheme of the story. I think that I would rather have a wall full of books rather than an e-reader full of books (and believe me I am the kind of person that hates clutter but I just can't get over how important the sensory input that a real book provides).
  13. We love xtramath as well. The best thing about it is that it is less than 10 min a day. This way the kids know that they just have to go through the daily practicel and they will be done and it gets rid of the temptation for me to add more work to speed things up. Every lesson the student gets to see thier progress. I have even seen progress in my 6 year old (who has butterflies in her head).:tongue_smilie:
  14. I was at the Abbotsford convention. Usually I think to order in advance and pick up at the convention but not this year. Thanks for the tip about ADS having that book. I think I'll put together an order.
  15. Thank-you for the links to the book! This thread has been awesome! I don't feel as dead in the water as I did a couple of hours ago.:001_smile:
  16. Thank-you for the info! I just checked our local library and they have the DVD's so I can request them as I need them.:)
  17. What a great blog. I think I am going to be spending a lot of time there! By the way, what a cute house!
  18. This sounds like a great book but Amazon doesn't seem to have it. Do you know who sells it (I will do some searching myself)? I hope that it isn't out of print.
  19. Oh wow, Thanks for the information! I did buy a core so I will check it out.:)
  20. I love Andrew Pudewa! Great review on the Phonetic Zoo. It was a program that worked stellar for my daughter. I am going to be trying it this year with my son (who despises writing). We will see how it goes.:001_huh:
  21. Why is it so difficult to find any good resources for Canadian History??:glare: I just can't pull it together because *confession coming up* though I was born and raised in Canada, Canadian History has never really interested me like World History. I wonder if this is because of the stunning lack of interesting Canadian History progams out there that include historical fiction? I would be ever so much grateful to know what the other Canadians on the board do for Canadian History!
  22. No, you are not a bad mom. Some kids are more that way. Start moving toward independence a little at a time. If you encourage your less anxious child to sleep in thier own bed that is a good first step. Make it fun and exciting and gradually start to work on your more anxious child. As kids mature they do gain confidence but a small push and encouragement here and there sure does help too. You may want to try giving her 5HTP instead of melatonin (melatonin is best if you do not give it to children as they are still developing thier melatonin/ seratonin balance). :grouphug: It will work out.
