You weren't supposed to ask that;) I honestly can't put my finger on it. I know I would switch math out, as we use CLE. I will probably order the lesson plans for 3rd...and maybe go from there??? Maybe I should just bite the bullet and order it all...but then I am afraid that all 3 grades might be too much?? Oh geez, now I am confusing myself... -
A lot more of a box checker than I thought I was:) I'm using Memoria Press for my K and 1st grader and LOVING them. I'm not quite sold on it for my soon to be 3rd grader though... So, what are your favorite 'box checking' curriculums for 3rd grade???

Will do! As a mom of 3 preemie boys, I know how touch and go it can be! -
Ideas for promoting confidence in dd7??
4maybabies replied to 4maybabies's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thank you so much! I'm going to go check out the book right now! My dd turns 8 this month, so hopefully it will be perfect for her! We will have to try the role playing, I think that might help her. We've talked about it, like you at bedtime, but I think the role playing might give her an extra boost of confidence. -
I need ideas for helping my dd7 with confidence and sticking up for herself. Honestly, she's such a good hearted and sweet girl, she's getting eaten alive lately. Backing up....she's played soccer for a few years now, and she's pretty darn good at it. This year, she wanted to try softball. So we signed her up, and the team she was placed in has a bunch of girls that have played together for a few years now. Normally, my dd has no trouble making friends. She's not a shy girl...but she can be very timid. She is SOOOO afraid of making a mistake...she can't even think straight when placed into a position where she gets asked a question in front of other people and she has to answer. Anyway, the girls on the team aren't very welcoming, and really can be downright rude. For instance, at yesterday's game a team mate spit sunflower seeds in my dd's face....:confused: seriously, I don't get these girls...AT ALL. As we were leaving my dd said bye to her teammate, and the girl just looked at my dd and looked away...as her parents were standing right next to her.:001_huh: I don't want to fight her battles for her, but I also don't want people to walk all over her. I've tried to talk to her and let her know she will not get into trouble for sticking up for herself! She's just so afraid that an adult will yell at her. I think it does bother me more than her sometimes...as no parent wants to see their child get treated like that. What would you do if you were in my shoes? How do I instill confidence in her and teach her that she doesn't just have to sit there if someone spits at her?!?! How do I let her know EVERYONE makes mistakes, and that it's ok...we learn from our mistakes? I've talked to her about this a lot, but obviously that's not enough...

The single best curriculum you ever used

PAL Reading/Writing!! -
My DD7, almost 8, is using AAS 3 right now. During her spelling, she RARELY gets any words wrong. However, when we're not 'doing spelling'....she RARELY spells them right. For instance, yesterday, at random times she spelled these words: Rools-rules Turtel-turtle Thay-they Evel-evil Shamles-shameless Jungel-jungle Pepole-people Dsire-desire roks-rocks lile pad-lily pad Now, I know she hasn't encountered all these words yet, but the problem is a lot of the time there are words she has learned, yet still doesn't spell them right, outside of spelling. So, do I just keep going with AAS? Do I give her extra practice? Is this normal, I don't know. This is our first year, and this is all new to me. Thanks.

Ideas for learning about Washington, D.C.?
4maybabies replied to 4maybabies's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Yes, this EXACTLY! -
We're planning on taking a small trip up to D.C. in May. I'm looking for something to get my kids familiar with the different monuments, buildings, etc...Maybe a unit study? Any ideas?

Help me decide if I want to use IEW's PAL.
4maybabies replied to 5LittleMonkeys's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Completely agree with everything already said above. It is our favorite program right now! I love it so much, it's the ONLY curriculum that I know I will be using with my littles when the time comes! -
What do you use for elementary k-6 math?

AAS/AAR vs. PAL vs. Phonics Road....trying to decide tonight!
4maybabies replied to besroma's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I tried Phonics Road....and couldn't get past watching the DVDs. I needed more structure than that and I do agree it's for a more advanced child. I currently use AAS with my 2 oldest. Love it. I think AAR is a great program! I had to change it up for my DS5 though. We settled on PAL and at this point, it is our favorite program around here! Were using PAL reading and the PAL writing component. I know some people will say they don't like the Blended sight sound method....but it is doing wonders for my son:001_smile: -
Which elementary do you find to be open and go?

Nancy Larson? -
Anyone with a large family find it easier NOT to combine?
4maybabies replied to heidip2p's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
YES! Same thing as pp mentioned. My boys turn schooling into a wrestling match if they're sitting next to each other. When I separate them, they're completely different kids. Makes for a longer day, but my sanity is worth it:D -
Can anyone recommend a Mandarin program?

Better Chinese? -
Ok so I have been looking at the Truthquest history website all night:D I think it has everything we want/need! StinainColorado....do you use the notebook/timeline/Binder-builder pages as well? I'm thinking if I use those it will be a perfect fit for us, however, it looks like a lot.

Would SL core D be too much for a 1st grader?
-
This coming year I'm going to have a K'er, 1st and 3rd grader. My older two are huge history lovers! This past year we did elemental history's Adventures in America...while we've enjoyed it, we're looking for something a little more in depth and more hands on. We would love to add more living books as well... So, is there anything out there that I can combine my older 2 with? It can be secular or Christian....

I just ordered the Equine Science and Animals and their World! I have never used WP, but I'm hoping we love it! I have a feeling my animal loving daughter is going to have a blast with the program:) We plan on starting right away as well. I also plan on including my older boys with the K version of Animals and their world. Not sure how much they'll enjoy the program as I'm sure there aren't any swords or nerf guns included for them:glare:
