  1. It's Not the Stork is well done. I have read through it with my 4-5yos. The Flip Flap Body Book also does a great job with how babies grow without talking about how they're conceived. Not the Stork does cover conception, but very age appropriately, IMO.
  2. I've knit (or crocheted) football hats. I can definitely tell, and think yours looks adorable!
  3. I'll participate! I bought them recently and am looking forward to reading through them.
  4. We are using FIAR, so lit based unit studies here!
  5. We flew with three backless boosters last week. We has kids carry them on and put them in overhead bins. Two of mine ride harnesses at home and the other in a high back booster, but for vacation we went with small and easy.
  6. My just turned 5yo is in a Graco Nautilus, in booster mode. I just changed it from harnessed to booster last month. He used the seat in harness mode for a couple of years. We have loved it. My niece has it in pink, so I know that's an option. My 4yo twins are in their convertible harnessed seats that I got when they moved out of infant seats. Both are short, and neither are 40lbs. I'm fine with them riding occasionally in a booster (they do in my DH's car), but I'm more comfortable with them harnessed in the van where they ride 90% of the time. I think the nautilus sounds like a great choice for you.
  7. Ruth was my first thought. I also like some classic 2 syllable names with it like Catherine and Margaret.
  8. I have the following planned for our first trip through kinder this year: FIAR HWT Phonics Pathways still fleshing out math. I was planning MEP-R and cuisenaire rod play, leading to Miquon in the spring, but one of mine really doesn't like MEP so far. It might not last.
  9. Like items nested inside one another. Lids in command organizers attached to insides of cabinet doors.
  10. I test drove both, in 2008, so not the newest version of either. We bought a Sienna because I felt like it fit me better. I'm short (5'3") and the Odyssey just felt like it was built for someone with longer limbs. I didn't find it comfortable.
  11. precisely why I wanted to switch from plastic to wood. Not lining up neatly BUGS me.
  12. I'm trying it! I have been wanting to switch over to wooden rods. We have 2 155 rod buckets of plastic, and I didn't want to eat the cost of 2 new sets. This is a good compromise, if it works!
  13. I am not planning to lapbook with FIAR this year. I might do one or two with my daughter, since she likes cutting, pasting, etc, but my boys would hate it. I think FIAR can be plenty rich sticking to the manual.
  14. Mine all have birthdays in the same week, so I recently updated all three, and it was crazy! Somehow 5 and 4yos seem much older than 4 and 3yos.
  15. I plead not guilty! I didn't use the SOTW instructions, so I can't really compare. I'm 99% sure we just used straight kosher salt, on a cornish hen, in a big tupperware container, changed much less frequently than SOTW recommends. It's been 7 years since I was in the classroom, though, so my memory is definitely rusty.
  16. I made 4 chicken mummies with my 3rd classes (pre-kids) when studying the ancients and we never had one smell! I'm so sorry!!
  17. Yep! Just getting started with 4yo b/g twins, and their 5yo brother who is not far ahead of them. We are doing AAR pre-level, MEP-R, and ETC primers together without difficulty. My daughter's fine motor skills are pretty far ahead of the boys, so she does more writing. I do more scribing for the boys in ETC. My younger son (the twin) is ready to read, where the other two aren't yet, so I've started Phonics Pathways with him, just 10-15min a day during their rest time. I'm interested to see how things go in the future. I expect we'll be able to keep some things all together and have to split some things out.
  18. Shut UP!! That means NOLA can't be too far behind! But heck, I'm in Kenner. I can drive across the swamp for TJs.
  19. Our favorites (my kids are 5 and 4): aquarium, then ride the Algiers ferry back and forth across the river afterwards (ferry is free to pedestrians and the entrance is right by the aquarium) zoo play at City Park, just explore, play on playgrounds, or go to Storyland, an adorable little park with a Fairy Tale and Nursery Rhyme theme. Storyland is $3/person walk around the Quarter, eat beignets, listen to street musicians, walk through the Blue Dog gallery our children's museum is pretty good, and getting better! They've been renovating ride a street car! I'm sure I could come up with more, but that'll get you started!
  20. We live here, and :iagree: with the above. If you're interested in museums, I hear our WWII museum is fantastic, but I haven't been yet. (We haven't lived here long). I could give you a million ideas for what to do with kids, but not that many without. I can't seem to shake mine very often!
  21. Lizard Lou and the Zigzag Zebra? They're included in both the basic and deluxe packages. Yes, they're a major part of the program.
