  1. We also have but haven't used: A Child's Geography...but isn't that enough for a 6th grader? (The Illustrated Science Encyclopedia)Amazing Planet Earth which has hands one and info..Mayeb I should consider this? Thanks, Natalija
  2. Dd in 6th loved science til now. This year she is doing Earth Science with Science Explorer...and now dreads science!!! I did get PLATO Earth Science and that she likes but not the PH SE. What about TOPS? But that is only experiments, right? She loves experiments...but Mom doesn't! So they need to be simple and quick to do! Any suggestions? Thanks, Natalija
  3. We have tried to do Latin several times but never have the time for it or stick to it. We started LC1 but it took too long and we were annoyed with the constant "um's" in the video. :tongue_smilie: We don't seem to have time for everything (that is another post..I need help scheduling a better schedule!) but I would really like dds to get some Latin in. Older dd is in 8th but wants to learn Russian in HS so she may only have this year to learn Latin, unless we can squeeze that in. I am looking for a Latin and a Logic curriculum that could be done in a short amount of time. We'd prefer the church Latin version. Also, I am planning on dds doing Vocab from Classical Roots this year. Will they get out of that some of what they would miss if we don't do Latin? Thanks! Natalija Any suggestions?
  4. Thanks, Janice! You made me giggle! I love your post! It speaks to me and I am so glad to know I am not alone!!! :iagree: :-) Natalija
  5. Thanks. I bought Science Explorer but now realize that she will only get through about 2 or 3 books of the 5 so she won't get all the topics covered in Earth Science. I am rethinking it although I don't really know if I should! Plato Science is from Cyber Ed and is a subscription curriculum. Thanks, Natalija
  6. Is it too easy for a young 6th grader to use as the main curriculum? Would it be enough with PLato Science? I started her on Science Explorer but didn't think about A Chid's Geography as an option. Any thoughts? Thanks. Natalija
  7. I bought all the individual books and am wondering how...or DOES anyone actually get through all 5 books in one school year? How do you break it down? I couldn't resist getting Plato Science too but some lessons seem so long. i don't know if one could do both curriculums in one day. How many days a week and time per lesson do you do? ( We are somewhat limited in time in afternoons as dds have piano and violin lessons twice a week and require lots of drive time.) We are already in our 2nd week of school and I do not have a plan or schedule! I don't want to wing it again another year!!! Any help or feedback would be appreciated!! Thanks! Natalija
  8. I see your are a fellow music mom!! It is always a challenge trying to make sure we have a good balance between academics and music...and free/family time. I was wondering how her time spent between 8-6 breaks down: How many hours of academics? How many hours of practicing? How often are her lessons? Looking forward to hearing from you! Natalija
  9. "Simple"! I like that! I NEED simple! Will consider that! Thanks! Natalija
  10. Thank you! I just bought it! I was looking at it before but forgot about it. Thanks for passing on the great sale! Natalija
  11. I am SOOOO far behind! Never been this late! We are starting the day after labor Day but we are going on vacation in 10 days!!!! I don't have anything scheduled or planned yet. Math and grammar is set, most of the science we have, but the rest I need to decide and order asap!! And I am known for having a hard time making decisions!! :tongue_smilie: Life just takes one on so many detours and distractions!! Hang in there! You are not alone! Natalija
  12. My dd's are going into 6th and 8th and we are going to continue with Story of the World 4 ( to finish our progression) but we need more than that. I was hoping Hisotry Odyssey would have an intermediate modern history version out but they don't. We used All American History Vol. I coupled with SOTW 3 last year and they liked it. We could continue with All American History II but I would rather have something that doesn't only cover American History. Any suggestions!! I am SOOOOOOOOOO late planning and ordering this year!!!!!!!!!!! Argh!!! Thanks! Natalija
  13. That's good to know! Only one semester? Well, I was hoping to work in LL 8 ..or at least some of it in addition to CLE. So, in that case, should I go with CLE 8? Will she lose out on things she missed in CLE7 ? Thanks! Natalija
  14. on material covered in previous levels?? Or do the levels review the material in previous years? DD did LL 7 last year but there wasn't nearly as much material covered there as seems to be in CLE Reading. She is a good reader, so that is not an issue. Scrambling to order...SOOOOOOOOOOO very late this year!!!!!!!!:tongue_smilie: Thanks! Natalija
  15. I think I will get CLE reading and I will get all but two of the LL 8 books as well. CLE seems to cover a lot! Thank you!
  16. Dd used LL 7 this past year and liked it but I saw great reviews about CLE Reading and how much it covers. It seems to cover much more than LL but CLE doesn't use whole classics like LL does, which we like. I like most of the selections of LL 8 except To Kill a Mockingbird. (Does a young 13 year old need to know about rape? Not in our house.) Has anyone combined CLE Reading and LL? Who likes which one better? I would cut out the book I mentioned and maybe the short stories but I don't know if doing both would be too much. Probably., I would think. Then again, dd did not do the composition exercises nor the grammar exercises as we use other curriculum for that. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! Natalija
  17. OK! I am getting frustrated here! I just bought all 200 editions of the separate books ..all 15. I am realizing that I will have to buy all the guided workbooks separately, as well as the TE's. I was trying to save $ but does not look that way now! I was hoping to use the interactive text CD-ROM sold on the PH site (which they told me includes the TE, guided workbook pages, etc.) They don't however coorelate to the older texts I just bought! ARGH! Should have figured that out FIRST! What do I do? Try to sell the books I bought and buy the new editions so oI can get the TEs and workbook pages? Is there another way? I need: * answer keys to questions, workbooks or whatever else (is that in the Te?) *guided reading workbooks ( or pages on CD preferably) The sales rep also toldl me about the TEacher's Express CD which sells for $199.97 and contains All in One Resources, TEs, worksheets, labs. By the way, I have never figured out how to sell my stuff online. I have a Pay Pall acct but have only made pymts with it. That is another post in itself! Thanks for your help! I am confused! Decision making is not my forte to begin with! :-( Natalija
  18. Thank you Angie! Good to know! Natalija
  19. Does anyone know if there are any PH SE lesson plans available? We are getting the 2000 editions of the individual books. Are they pretty much identical to the newer editions? One last question: are the guided reading workbook pages also in the Interactive Text CD-ROMs? Thanks! Natalija
  20. Hss anyone bought any bulk grain online? Can anyone share any of their favorite sites? I am looking for stuf like organic basmati rice, vital wheat gluten, etc. The shipping is so $$$!! TIA! Natalija
  21. I'd love to see how you have scheduled the two, if you don't mind. I pm-ed you. Thanks for sharing! Natalija
  22. Thanks for the heads-up! We have had that book for years!! Now I can put it to good use, instead of just looking through it. Thanks! :-) Natalija
  23. That is the first time I have seen The Homeschool Co-op option. I was very excited to have found that. The site said Cyber-Ed is closed to new subscriptions but I signed up for the newsletter. Hopefully I will get notification. Thanks! Natalija
