and...the cat brought in a garter snake. What does a hs mom do? Catches it & puts it in a box until the kids get home from co-op.

Hopefully the snake isn't injured-Cats can really do a number on domestic snakes. If you try to keep a garter for long enough to need to feed it, they eat worms, soft bodied insects, small fish (some people can get them to take pieces of fish filets), and so on. They're fairly easy to feed. The downside is that like most small, live-bearing snakes, they have a fast metabolism and tend to poop a lot (compared to the ones that only eat a large meal every week or two-or less often).
