  1. Maybe it would be helpful to put the messiest toys in the attic for now?
  2. I would go with the second. The longer version adds no additional useful information.
  3. I made the poll so you can vote more than once. You can vote for each child.
  4. My 5 year old very rarely seems to ever feel bad about anything he does wrong, breaks accidentally, arguing, or disobeying. He'll be upset about the consequences, but not the act himself. Two examples from today: We've just moved into this house and already the 2 year old broke a chunk out of the corner of the wall due to 5 year old leaving something heavy and easily tipped near the wall. I know that he just wasn't thinking about how this item was destined to fall, but what bugs me is that when we showed him the damage, it didn't seem to phase him at all. Later today, he was upset and maybe throwing a little fit as he got in the car. He opened the door too much as a result, and it whacked into the car next to us. I explained that he chipped the paint on someone else's car and he just said, "Oh." Is it reasonable to expect a 5 1/2 year old to sometimes show regret at doing something wrong, or constantly arguing with me and giving me a hard time? He was much more pleasant at 2 than since he turned 4 and then 5. He's like the Borg, quickly becoming immune to whatever way we try to discipline him. If he asks in a whining or demanding way, we use do-overs, which he will cooperate with. The constant explosions over tiny things, arguing, and generally acting like he's in change and I should obey him are pushing me close to the edge. I don't know how I'll survive until he's an adult!
  5. I took the course about 8 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was free. I decided not to work for them after completing the course because I didn't like the idea of encouraging people to take loans against their tax refund. I'm still glad I took the course, however, because it makes it a lot less confusing to do our taxes.
  6. I started reading adult length novels at 11. My first was Jurassic Park. There were many words that I only saw in print but never heard anyone say. To this day, I still occasionally hear a word and think, "Oh, so that's how you say that word! I've never heard it spoken before."
  7. Cook chicken chunks with oil, onions, a jar of salsa, a bag of frozen mixed vegetables (or just corn), and a can of black beans.
  8. Well, you can always branch out into new areas, such as gluten or other allergen-free desserts.
  9. Don't taunt us like that! I hope it's real, but I have my doubts.
  10. I've been to Elizabeth's website but there is so much there, I tend to get lost.
  11. My son can read books like Frog and Toad. We're on level five of Hooked on Phonics and I'm trying to decide what to use next. We've already done the first third of Phonics Pathways, but we switched to HOP because he fought with me about it so much. Phonics lessons aren't a battle any longer, so after we finish HOP, should we go back to PP or start something like Webster's Speller to learn how to read multisyllable words more easily? Questions about Webster's Speller 1. Do I teach the syllable "by" with a long I or a long E? It seems like syllables with a "y" are most commonly found at the end of a word, using a long E sound. 2. Do I teach "bu" with both long U sounds ("bew" and "boo")? Thanks.
  12. ****spoilers**** Can anyone explain to me why the Doctor and River got married so suddenly? Surelt he could've whispered his secret some other way.
  13. What did everyone think of the Doctor Who ending? If it's already been discussed here, I missed it. I thought the episode seemed a little rushed. I think it would've been better if they had made it another 15-20 minutes long. I was relieved that they didn't "save" the Doctor in a totally cheesy way.
  14. Well, I had also considered a Vulcan, Ferengi, or Romulan. DH is teasing that I should go naked and be a Ferengi female.
  15. I haven't dressed up in eight years, due to convictions I had at the time. Now, my ideas are different, and I'm excited to dress up this year! Last night, I was discussing being a Borg. Then I went on YouTube and saw how much work a good Borg costume would be. There are some really good ones on there! Then, I thought it would be fun to be a Dalek. But it would also be a lot of work and I'm in the US, so many people wouldn't know what they are. (And the "sexy Dalek" costumes I saw are right out.) A Cyberman would be easier to walk around in than a Dalek.
  16. There are lots of South Asians in the RTP area (Raleigh). Morrisville has so many that the town started a cricket league.
  17. I think the only place I've worn stockings to since I was maybe 12 was a few job interviews. I have worn knee highs with long skirts, but only in the winter to keep my feet warmer and my shoes from getting stinky. I went to high school in the 90s and people never wore them. Bare legs and sandals were the choice for formal occasions.
  18. My fasting glucose is in the mid-90s and I definitely feel the best if I eat in a way that keeps my glucose below 105 at all times. I bought the monitor two months ago and since I started experimenting (in combination with some other new treatments), my CFS has started to get much, much better. I can drive again! I can even do some exercise!
  19. I've been testing my glucose after some meals because my dad is diabetic. I've noticed a pattern that if my glucose goes above 110-115 after a meal, I feel tired. I know this can happen to people at higher glucose levels, but why is it happening at this level?
  20. If I remember correctly, median household income in the US is about $50k, so half of all families earn less than that. So far, the poll results show a higher than average income.
  21. The price difference for this particular drug is real. I've already ordered from them three times. They post all their prices on the website. I used the websites of other national chain pharmacies for comparison. Now, I'm not claiming Costco is that much cheaper for all expensive drugs. But it's worth a look.
  22. I have to be on an expensive prescription for about six months. The generic versions from most pharmacies came to $1000/month. Costco sells a generic for $300/month. I even looked into ordering from Canadian pharmacies, but I couldn't figure out which ones are legit. I'm pretty sure you don't need to be a Costco member to use their pharmacy. It's mail order, so you don't even need to live near one. I thought I'd pass this info along to see if it would help any of you save money.
