  1. Oh Katie, I am so very sorry for your loss. It has been a privilege to pray with and for your Mom along the way. My heart aches for you, your siblings, your dad and all of her family and friends. She seemed like a really special lady. I pray that the Lord will bring you guys a palpable comfort in the coming days as you do all that must be done. Then, as you begin again and move forward, I pray the sweet memories are many and the remembrances of her illness are few. Sending love and hugs and my deepest sympathies.
  2. Continuing to pray for you and your family, Katie.
  3. Katie, THANK YOU for the updates about your mom. It is a privilege to pray for her and for your family. I'm sure this must be a very scary time. I pray that you will feel the palpable presence of the Lord as you tend to your mom. When you are tired and weary, we will keep praying.
  4. Jane, I will pray for you! I'm up keeping watch as storms make their way across Tennessee and other states. Praying the night goes better than you expect and that you even get some well-deserved and much-needed rest. :grouphug:
  5. Thanks, Ladies! You have given me some great options! Looking forward to checking them out! Have a great week!
  6. The ones we have tried are snug fitting as well, but cut fairly low at the top. If she's just standing there, they are mostly ok, but they are low enough that when she moves around your eye is drawn to the area and if she bends over even the slightest, all of her "information" is visible. (Note that I am not particularly prudish. I am fine with tank tops. I just want them cut a little higher than I've found....so that she can be comfortable to move freely!) Thanks! ETA--I don't mean "prudish" negatively, though it might read that way. I just mean that, while I would consider our choices of dress to the conservative end of things, my girls do sometimes wear clothing that I'm sure others on this board would not choose.
  7. I have not! I was hoping for some time-saving recommendations from those in the know. I'll check it out. Thanks!
  8. We are looking for tank tops for my 13 year old dd that she can layer under other shirts/tanks/dresses for spring and summer. DD is tallish and thin with obvious curves in the obvious places. She likes LONG tanks so that she can move freely without showing her midriff. The ones we've tried so far are cut pretty low in the front. We are wanting them cut high enough that she can move freely (including bending over) without over-sharing. Is there such a thing these days? (I tried the 12-14 and 14-16 tanks in a couple of children's departments because they are cut a bit higher, but they are also short at the waist. Would love recommendations. Thanks!
  9. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us and for giving us the opportunity to pray for you. :grouphug:
  10. SOOOO thrilled to know that you have good news. I was very concerned about you! Thanks for the update. I'll keep praying. Please keep us updated. Speaking of updates...I haven't read all of the responses, so forgive me if this is a repeat. (I tried to PM you, but your box is full.) May I make a suggestion that you give a cell number to someone on here that you trust so that if something came up and we didn't hear from you for a while, someone could check on you? It was excruciating not knowing what was going on, and I'm just a wall-flower/lurker. I think someone tried to email you, but that only works if YOU are able to check your email. Thanks for considering. In the meantime, I'm doing a happy dance in my den and my kids think I'm a looney. That's what coming to care about WTMers you've never met will do for you. I like it. Praying that cancer has lost it's hold on you forever.
  11. Oh my, Tina!!! So glad to hear that you and baby Ava are both doing well. So happy to know that you are home safe and sound!! Welcome Baby Ava!!
  12. Still praying, Christine. We will keep lifting you up. We will keep thinking about you and checking back for updates. Does anyone know her IRL?
  13. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, hearing your "voice" is music to my ears. I'm mostly a lurker, but have come to be really fond of so many of you. Rough Collie, you make that list. I'm torn between wanting to help orchestrate an escape--it sounds so fun to hatch a cunning plan and execute it, leaving the powers-that-be wondering--and making sure you "STAY"! I'm pretty sure the "STAY" and "HEAL" expressed by others are winning in my mind. PLEASE take care of yourself...for that hubby and those boys and that daughter and yes, for all of US. Just think of all of the stories you'll have to tell by staying another day or so!! We LOVE stories! Continuing to lift you all in prayer... Keep us posted.
  14. Christine, Very concerned about you. Keeping the prayers going. Hoping someone can update us soon.
  15. Just went back and read the whole thread after posting my initial response to the prayer request. I would be remiss if I did not take the opportunity to praise DS1 for getting the word out quickly so that we could be praying and DS2 for bringing us such a thorough update (how did you know that I LOVE THE DETAILS??). Your Mama must be very proud of you. I, a perfect stranger, am proud of you and hope that all of you kids and your dad do well while Mom is away. Praying for you guys, too. DS2, you sound like a remarkable young man. I will keep the prayers coming for all of you. Hope and pray Rough Collie comes home soon and that her recovery will be speedy and complete. I'm also already praying for ALL of you as she makes life adjustments (quitting smoking, etc.) as I'm sure it will be an adjustment for all of you. Rough Collie--praying that you will have the strength and courage and tenacity to implement the necessary life changes. We need a healthy Rough Collie here at the boards!! Wishing all of you well,
  16. Just logging in for the first time today. Can't believe I missed this. Praying!! Keep us posted, would you?
  17. Perhaps you could affect change by contacting The History Channel or whoever the powers that be are.....
  18. Ladies, One of my girls is struggling with word problems and even basic math terminology. She can't deduce from the word problem which function she is supposed to do (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Also, she can DO the functions, but when I use the words add/subtract, multiply/divide it is all like Greek to her. I am looking for posters or links to print outs that I can post on the wall to help her connect the function words (add/subtract, etc.) to the symbols. Also, looking for any tip sheet that I could print for her that could help her figure out from the word problem, which function she should do. This is a BRIGHT child, but the terminology is a bit abstract for her and I just know it and can't find a bridge of vocabulary to help her. Does that make sense at all??? Help!! TIA!
  19. These are all great ideas. Thank you for thinking out loud for me. It was/is quite a shock and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. We have 3 girls and they have rooms upstairs. I don't venture up there very often, so who knows about lights left on, radios left on, etc. (We've had a quick family meeting about this already this morning.) I am heading to the local electric website for ideas they have and will see if they do free energy efficiency visits. I would welcome one of those. I will check back in later for any more ideas. I'll keep you posted on what happens next month! Meanwhile, I've knocked the temp back to 65 and told the girls to layer up! Thanks, all!
  20. Ok, Ladies. We just got a $511 electric bill!! (Our highest ever was $295) I need help cutting this more than in half. Please submit ideas. You need to know: We live in a 2500(ish) sq. ft OLD house with no storm windows. I think this is the major issue, but we 1) don't have money to put all new storm windows on right now without going into debt and 2) the dh has visions of some renovations that will affect some of said windows so he has held off. (My POV is that we should have put the storm windows on to help with heating/cooling and if/when we get to the renovations, we'll cross that bridge. I think only a couple of windows will ultimately be affected. This is the beginning of year #4 in this house.) So, the house stays quiet cool. We currently run the heat at 70, but we will need to drop that to 65-67 to probably make any kind of cost difference, right? We have guinea pigs and a tropical fish that need a warm room. Our back room is a den and was an addition (before we moved in) so it gets even less heat than the rest of the house. We've been using space heaters in there (for the pets, mostly). Outside of the obvious heat issues, what can I do to reduce the electric bill? Would love to hear the obvious and not-so-obvious things you've done at your house. Thanks!
