There is no church other than the one in Michael Pearl's head where it is taught that a parent can deliver a child from sin by beating the child. That is not a Christian doctrine. It is a misunderstanding and misapplication of a proverb from the time of Solomon.
Jesus Christ paid the price for the sin of the world. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
If people could be delivered from sin by a parenting method, Jesus would have never gone to the cross! God would have just sent a prophet with a wagon full of plumbing supply line, then, and no Savior of mankind would have had to give himself for us all, out of love. For while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Hear that? Daddy doesn't deliver you from sin with his belt or spoon or whip. By that abuse you are not absolved, having paid for your crime! It is by Christ's stripes that we are healed, not by a baby's stripes inflicted by her own father.
This is part of the deception: Families are flat ignoring the teachings of their own churches, willing to be seduced by the promises of perfect children. They are not measuring Pearl's theology with their own, or that of their church. But Pearl's bad methodology is driven by his bad theology. It matters.
:iagree:
Well written.

After 5b, according to AoPS. They say that 5th grade math should be completed before Prealgebra.

No screen protector on my iPad or my super old iPhone. No issues or special cleaning products. I occasionally wipe fingerprints with my t-shirt. Rarely I swipe it with a cloth with the teesiest bit of windex. No scratches on either device. No hazy screens.
This is what I do. It has held up remarkably well. No scratches at all.

I'm mid way through the first reading assignment...
Lord, have mercy...
 At least most of them are funny.

I linked some threads on the first page that explain teA, bOOks and carpeting...

D'oh! How could I forget the War Between the States!
Oh, I can't call it the Civil War, can I?:001_huh:
What about
7. Submission
And serious only on this board
8. Crock pots
-
ok, a very strange question
Well, truth is stranger than fiction.

I read that as submit, & I thought...not yet...pace yourself. ;)

Don't forget, though, about twice per year you have to join a slugfest about something really deep or people will start thinking you're only here for the kilts. Here, I'll give you a few sample 'deep' topics for if you ever feel the need to join the really erudite fights:
1. higher education
2. education in Europe and how it is better than education in the USA (can sometimes get away with slamming the UK, but that's it)
3. poverty (welfare, class warfare, food stamps, etc. bonus points for being able to argue both sides in a single thread)
4. phonics
5. math (study up before wading in. Do a forum search on Math Spy Car)
6. the Civil War

This one is hilarious.
This is the "sequel" to the above thread:
I really wanted to see that picture
And this one is where the kilts started...
I have asked that my membership be removed from this board
The start of teA (and possible booKs, I'm not sure)
The start of teA room carpet:
Have you had carpet removed from your teA room?
Some really good threads from other areas of the board:
This one is a classic.
The breadth vs. depth question
Why you should work on TWTM skills - copywork, narration, dictation, outlining, etc.

At both of the schools (1 high school, one middle school) I taught in, the children were punished for not bringing in the requested supplies. The first class in each grade to bring in all their supplies got a pizza party. After the first week, kids who don't bring their supplies get detention. We were expected to "grade" based on getting the supplies in...so you got a 100 if you brought them in by X date, a 90 if you brought them in by Y date, etc. At the end of the first 3-week period, children who still hadn't brought in their school supplies got a 50. After that, I guess they assumed you didn't have a chance of getting them because they stopped punishing for it.
They had the same rules for buying the school agenda each year.
 and they were never sued?
-
How gloriously random! I'm picturing the rest of the supplies list...
Spanish 2: Cheese Graters
Pre-Calculus: Dental Floss (waxed)
AP Environmental Science: Yellow Gumdrops
US History: Carpet Tacks (initials A through M); Mylar Balloons (N through Z)
 and
Latin 1: 1 pillowcase

Our Awana does not do so. I can't imagine most Cubbies understanding the gospel enough to make any sort of decision at.all.

Is the book a true story?
No, the book is fiction. It is, however, very realistic historical fiction and at times felt like nonfiction to me.

I think you would be fine doing AoPS geometry after MUS Algebra 1, if you would prefer. If you have any questions about the books, I have the entire Intro series plus Intermediate Algebra.:001_smile: Also, you can do the number theory and counting books together in one school year, which would put you doing MUS Algebra 2 and AoPS Intro To Algebra together. However, I will say that a large strength of AoPS is the discovery. This is largely lost if you do another program before AoPS. EightFilltheHeart wrote some on the discovery aspect, if you want to read more.

I like your little Seeya smilie!
I'm going to assume you're not telling me to hit the road....:001_cool:
Liking these new (to me) smilies, though.
It's a "hello and welcome" smilie too.:001_smile:

Me, too. We are Episcopalian, and are called The Frozen Chosen.
But not me. I'm hot most of the time! ;)
 I much prefer cold to hot. Perhaps I should become Episcopolian.:D

I thought I made a mistake once; I was wrong.

That's it! Thanks!
I like that quote.:001_smile: Edison was very persistent.
