  1. We just finished Chapter 14 I think and we absolutely LOVE it!!!!!! It is such an easy read for us. There have been some books that I keep looking to see how many more pages we have to read but not this one! We are at the end before I know it! Sorry you don't like it!
  2. Ya welcome ladies!!!!!!! Yep, the independent "thang" after Day 1 is awesome!!!! I have always said that MUS allows me do things such as Sonlight that I would NEVER have time for if I taught 3 traditional math lessons a day! Blessings! Barb
  3. I have done R&S 2, FLL, R&S 3, and most of 4 with dd who is almost 12. Book 4 got down right confusing to us and a bit ridiculous I thought. Needless to say I didn't want this approach for my other 3 dc. So, we just completed our first week of AG Season One and I understand more about grammar than I ever have!!!!! It reminds me very much of MUS which I adore:D DD actually struggled with the first few 2 worksheets of AG. Picking out "our" as an adjective instead of a pronoun was tricky for her. Sure, it was easy to pick out the pronoun in R&S because there were "10" sentences that used the word "our" as a pronoun. However, to have a pronoun used in a long sentence as an adjective (amoung other things) was not so easy, at least not until we began to "ask" the questions of "which" etc. Now, she can see the function of the words instead of just spouting off the pronoun list;) So, just a testimony to anyone who has thought of using AG! I appreciate those who have answered my questions here regarding AG, especially Sue. I feel like after 7 years of hsing I have finally nailed down grammar!!!!!! Blessings! Barb
  4. We're with Homelife and have been with Gateway in the past. We only switched for the ease of entering grades online. I don't know of anyone that registers through the school board. I hate to disclose information at the pediatrician's office much less to the local school board. HTH! Barb
  5. Hi Sue, I would like your review and suggestion for placement, could you pm it to me? I see it starts at 4th grade so would skip the first 2 books if you were doing it for a 6th grader? Thanks! Barb
  6. I intended to do LiveMocha with my 6th grader since her friend is doing RS and they want to communicate together. Should I consider SOS Spanish or save that for later? Thank you! Barb
  7. Thanks Sue, I revised my lesson plans (I plan and write a journal for each subject for the year) and printed them out in the wee hours last night! I scheduled IEW for Week 11 and I think it will be fine. Just listing 3 dc subjects individually made me almost nauseated the other day thus I "freaked" out. All is good now! Bless you for talking me through this one! Barb
  8. Sue, I don't know what my point for copywork would be. I am losing it, aren't I??? I was thinking of cutting out the Skills Support Page altogether thus having a 4 day week. However, I guess being able to parse a sentence in context is the overall goal. I just meant parse the Skills Support and parse the Review and not do the paraphrasing on either. Anyway, thanks for your time! I think I will do it all minus the paraphrasing of any of them! Blessings, Barb
  9. You responded to a post back in May regarding the Skills Support section of AG. I have opted to skip that altogether during the Season 1. I had thought I would have her to "copy" the stories in the Review Book just for copyworks sake. Am I just giving her busywork? Should I just do the Parse & Diagram exercises and forget it or Parse both pages and not do the Copywork? THANK YOU! Barb
  10. Thanks Sue, I just needed some reassurance. I am getting more and more at peace with my day to day plans:o) We'll be starting next Tuesday!!!!!! Blessings, Barb
  11. Thanks OhElizabeth! I needed to be reminded of that! That is one thing I LOVE about MUS is that we only have 1 real lesson for the week!! I see you've gotten into BJU! I have friend who does ALL BJU Homesat and loves it! Blessings, Barb
  12. My dd has done R&S 2,3, and most of 4. I have purchased AG for next year (her 6th grade year). I have also bought A BUNCH of other things for her along with my other 2 school aged kids. Having said that, I am weeding out things for next year. Things I can do later or not at all. She understands and has retained the grammar we have learned from R&S. I had intended to do AG Season 1 the first 10 weeks of this year along with the Review for the remainder of the year. I also purchased IEW (SWI-B) to do with her and perhaps some KWO for my youngers. I am afraid I am overloading myself and am wondering if I should shelf AG until next year and do the 2 year plan? She is certainly not lacking in that skill. However, I don't want to set myself up for 2 LONG years of grammar either. I am only doing Flashkids LA with the youngers so that takes about 3 minutes of my time:o) What would you do? I have dropped Latin and individual Reading Aloud time for the youngers. I plan to include the youngers with my 6th grader in SL as much as possible. I just want to enjoy our school days and look forward to them. I have been in dred mode since I purchased TOO MUCH stuff:o( Also, I was going to start IEW-SWI-B after my AG Season 1 was complete so I wasn't doing 2 teacher intensive things at the same time. Perhaps I should do AG the last 10 weeks of school instead? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!:grouphug: Barb
  13. I would buy it NEW and not think twice about it especially if you have other kiddos to use it. I am going into my 7th year hsing and sad to say that I have bought used my entire hs career:o( Often, a book would be a different copyright thus not lining up page wise or in a condition that wasn't acceptable to me etc. I can be a bit anal but if you're not picky then used may work for you. I bought new last year (Core 3+4) and just purchased Core 5 new. I will always purchase new unless someone is virtually giving me a core. But, I have 3 more kiddos to go through these with along with myself when they are gone b/c I have no time to read now! HTH, Barb
  14. I ordered from them last summer (during the non busy time) and it took nearly 3 weeks to get my order. I did have a backorder that didn't come for another month! I had rather pay the extra to someone else and get my stuff FAST!
  15. No suggestions but empathy. I have 4dc with my 2 ds in the middle. They are 6 & 7, almost 7 & 8:o) They are "true" boys too. I struggle with Reading Aloud as well. They like to fiddle, jump around, make noises etc. I have found that reading at bedtime is the best option b/c they are worn out from the day and seem to listen much better. Of course, the fact that they can stay up later is a perk too:o) I'm sure you will get some fabulous responses! <hugs> Barb
  16. Amen sister! That was the whole reason I chose MUS! We want to add, subtract, multiply, divide and do REAL LIFE WORD PROBLEMS!! Everything else is gravy:o) Alright, enough soap box:o) I just purchased AG for my 6th grader. Previously, we have done R&S 2, 3, and most of 4 until I got burned out. I still correct her in regards to saying things like, "Me and Hannah are going etc." Her punctuation and such is wonderful and perhaps that is contributed to R&S but she is "schooly" kind of kid. You tell her once and shes got it. Now for my boys (2nd & 3rd) I have opted for FlashKids grammar so that they have something "grammary" in their day. I plan to start them in JAG when they are 5th & 6th. They CONSTANTLY say, "Me and Andrew etc." I don't think b/c I pull out a textbook and make them write sentences using the proper usuage is going to change that. I make them stop midstream and start over again. This is sometimes very hard for them as they are chatty little guys who don't want to stop in the middle of a thought! So, if you like the mastery approach then I would not hesitate to proceed forward with JAG. If you want to start the same thing over every year with the publisher assuming your dc don't know what a sentence is after 2 months of summer break, then R&S would fit the bill. It gets sad around here when my dd picks up on the fact that the "book" thinks she is stupid and can't remember what we did last year. Perhaps I will need a beat a dead horse grammar for the boys but I will not go that route until I have exhausted a mastery approach. Also, if you have more than one dc then the time involved in teaching several levels of R&S may be considered. This was not an option for me. JMHO:o) Barb
  17. Thanks for posting this! I just came to the board to ask the same question myself. I write Journals with the whole year's lesson plans in them via Excel and this is exactly what I was looking for!!!! Blessings! Barb
  18. This is my ONE AND ONLY homeschool decision that I have stuck with!!! Barb who has used Primer thru Zeta
