  1. Dh & I are arguing about whether to order it. What's funny? He's in favor; I'm against!
  2. I just read the whole thing. I'm guessing this is just a sales pitch that the co tells her to say, & if you say, "Oh, thanks, but I don't need anything else," she'll refund the difference. Just make sure you say so before meeting her at the mall, or she might not have the cash w/ her, & you'll have to wait for her to send you a check. Or worse--meet her again. Whatever you do, if the boba is worth more than the mei tei, don't do the exchange w/out getting the difference back because I"m guessing you could sell it for more than the value of the mei tei & then buy online. If she's like this w/ everybody, then, yeah, things are going to be awkward at your mom's group because EVERYBODY will feel awkward around her. I hope you get the carrier you need & that this resolves nicely. :001_smile:
  3. I like almond milk. Dh--who actually can't have it--will do any of the things on the list but usually just runs the tap over his bowl. I can't watch. Gag!
  4. As long as you're ok saying no when you need/want to & the kids aren't MONSTERS, I think that's what family is for! I do think it sounds like your bro is thinking about things like a man--ie, any woman would have known not to ask another woman to babysit when her dh has her own kids out of town, lol, but that happens w/ men. :001_smile:
  5. Before marrying dh, my last boyfriend was 14yrs older than me. I'd say 8-10 yrs was more common for me. Dh, though, is only 6mos older than me...youngest guy I ever dated, lol.
  6. Call me if you need anything! (Pm'ing you)
  7. doing a craft room for a friend. chosen theme: victorian children (you can google) curtains are already maroon--heavy, fancy fabric room is small Other than maroon, what colors? Other ideas? :bigear:
  8. I have a nook. I love it as far as an e-reader goes & liked the touch screen better than the keyboard back when that was an issue, but yeah...I like Amazon's selection better. The books that aren't free are the same price or cheaper (sometimes a LOT cheaper) at amazon. They've got a wider selection of what I want. B&N's free "books" are either snippets--not the whole thing--or Harlequin. Blech. Customer service in-person at B&N stores has been so bad that last time I was there, I made dh promise not to let me spend $ there EVER again. The nook can't read aloud like the kindle. Pdf's can't be marked on the nook like (I've been told) they can be on the kindle. No quoting online from what you're reading. 3G only works at B&N.com
  9. The prices on Amazon are going nuts. When I started this thread, the green kit was $35 & the one you linked above was...between $40 & $50, I can't remember now. Now the green kit is $45 & this one is just under $40. I think whatever I do, I need to click "order" as soon as I find a price I like, but oh my goodness, this is starting to feel like a crazy game! LOL
  10. But I can't tell how big they are. Some have a cache of letters/numbers, others have names--like BUILD THIS: and an actual something. FM radio, car or something. Etc.
  11. For an 11yo boy. 1st set. LOVES building, physics, math. I like the look of the green alt energy kit. Other than that one, though, my eyes glaze over when I look at them. ETA: I'm thinking $35 or less.
  12. Oh! That one came up, but I thought it was just a painting. :o
  13. So I guess my Q is: how do WE know? Where have we gotten these legends from? Probably not the right way to phrase it--I'm not looking for an author, exactly, but...there is a basic canon of Greek myths that are generally in all the collections I've read. Sutcliff is including many I haven't heard. Where is she getting these? I can tell now that they're coming from somewhere because when I search the specific stories, they show up on legit sites, but...where did I miss it?? LOL--I thought my classics ed was better than this!
  14. I 1st played catan w/ only 2, & it was fun. I also like goblett, chinese checkers, & boggle. I much prefer having more than 2 players, though. :D
  15. Ok, the reading on multiple devices has sold me. Must figure out how to make that work...when we tried it the other day, my acct had an old cc#, which we updated, but that was still the only mssg we got when trying to open the book dd was reading on the computer. Once she turned the Nook off, it opened fine on the computer. BUT...hmmm...maybe the problem was that we were trying to open the book via wifi on dh's computer instead of downloading the book. Anyway, I'm sure it will get figured out, & in the meantime, YAY! that means digital *does* have better value than I thought--much better! Question, though: has anyone tried reading Kindle/Nook books on the other device? For ex, I know you can have a kindle app & a nook app on your pc. If you go through the computer like that...or through calibre, maybe...could you read a nook book on a kindle or vice versa? Some of the e-books are a little cheaper to significantly cheaper on one device as opposed to another, & we found a kindle on CL for about 1/2 price, so we're thinking about getting the kids an e-reader to share. I love the idea of being able to choose EITHER nook or kindle books, but...I'd love it more if I thought there was a way to read them on both devices. :bigear:
  16. Our last library had *nothing* good in their e-books. The new library is worse. :glare: If you meant "how about the library" for *real* books...yeah, our old library was pretty decent. The new one? Not worth the gas to drive there. And it's not far at all. :tongue_smilie: What's worse, though, is this town has the same name as another city in another state whose library is *awesome.* I keep getting the wrong one under google & thinking that they've got books I want, hours that they're open, etc. :glare:
  17. Actually, now that I've thought about it, just your confirmation of the story is helpful in improving my google terms. Thank you!
  18. Right, that's why I thought maybe Sutcliff got it wrong, but the twins aren't IN the book. Looks like she just researched the Iliad more than Homer did, though. :glare:
  19. Ok, I had the opening of the Aeneid & the Iliad mixed up--"Sing, O muse, of arms and a man..." BUT...you're saying that the history of Paris is accurate according to Greek mythology but not actually part of the Iliad? Do you mind telling me where the story of Paris is found? I had a hard-core classics prof for the Iliad, & I'm surprised that I don't remember hearing any of this!
  20. Ah...just read to the end of the wine blog (after posting). Thanks.
  21. Ugh, I hate to ask, but my copy of The Iliad is packed, & I haven't read it since college. But I've watched Troy several times. :D So...BSBT says that Paris was abandoned in the woods to die, found & raised by a shepherd, one of many sons of Priam, married to a wood nymph. I'm pretty sure that none of that is in The Iliad & that Sutcliff...must have gotten confused with the history of Rome. I know the twins were cast out & raised by wolves...I forget who was raised by a shepherd. I'm sure enough that I feel dumb to double-check, but... Anyway, I've looked at online versions, but the translation is different, which is distracting. :tongue_smilie: And now I"m starting to second-guess myself, afraid that my memory of the story might be based too much on the movie. :svengo: Help. :o
  22. Oh. I see! I'm sorry--that's how I've always seen other people do it, so I thought it was just more convenient for people that way. Duh, though--of course you don't want to click on mystery link if I'm worried about it being legit! I'm fixing it in the OP. :001_smile:
  23. I just clicked on it, & it's working for me. Do you mean something else?
