  1. THANK YOU!  We do have their coverage in our area and it should be much cheaper for the same network.  Their website was fabulous too.  I spent 15 minutes getting everything switched over for 2 phones.  We had Virgin Mobile several years ago and we could never activate, pay etc on the website.

  2. Our contract with Sprint is finally ending and we would like to have a cheaper plan.  Boost, Straightalk and Virgine Mobile all tell me I can't bring my iphone 5 to them.  Any suggestions besides buying a new phone through one of those prepaid carriers?

  3. I do like it, but it does have a lot of activities for the classroom that we don't do.  I would prefer a program designed for homeschoolers of course  :)  Santillana's customer service is a pain.  I ordered the student books online for 1st and 4th this year several times and they never shipped my order.  When I called them they said the physical books were out of stock.  After a few more phone calls I got them to sell me a teacher license for the online program that has access to everything; student book, teacher book, tests, practice book, readers etc.  That ended up being cheaper for this year, but they only last a year so I will have to re-buy for future children.

I love that it covers grammar, writing and spelling all in one book.  We get extra books for me to read aloud and my kids to read from our library system.  There are enough lessons in 3rd and 4th grade for us to use it 4 times a week.  The first grade book has a lot of letter tracing which my first grader is beyond so it is a twice a week program for her.  I do plan to continue with it all the way through in addition to library books.

  4. I started on section 2 yesterday with my 5th grade dd. I decided to skip the grammar section since she has been through FLL 1-4, MCT Island and some Town, and is now working through R & S 5. However, I could probably be convinced to go back to the beginning with her. Anybody who's been through it care to weigh in? Would it be overkill for a student who has a pretty good grasp of parts of speech already?

My 4th grader did very well with MCT Island and we are still going through the beginning of TC quickly.  When the sentences ask her to label just nouns and verbs she is labeling almost everything the way we did in Island.  Going through quickly is making it not be boring, but the approach to teaching the writing with the grammar is so good that I would go through it anyway.  You could probably go triple or quadruple speed.

  5. I ended up switching dd9 to Rightstart E this year because it has fewer worksheets than any other program I was able to see (besides something on the computer) and I was satisfied that it would be solid instruction. She used MM, SM and Saxon in the past and really hated math worksheets. Math is going very well for her this year so we plan to continue to G in the future.

  6. Oh, gosh. I will not go re-watch past dramas on Viki for viewer comments. I will not go re-watch past dramas on Viki for viewer comments. I will not go re-watch past dramas on Viki for viewer comments. I won't, I tell you!

Seriously, I need more hours in the day. Or to not need sleep. That would help.

Great performance by GD, as always.

Yes, you want to! I need more hours too. Seriously, I laughed until I cried and only watched 10 minutes.

The Heirs parody was funny, love the guys playing the female roles!

  7. I'm at work right now so I can't watch it (just because this computer doesn't have sound lol), but I will later.

Oh, and I don't know what I was thinking all this time, not linking the BigBang Secret Garden parody...

Apparently WINNER did an Heirs parody.  I believe it's in the episode of WINNER TV that I'll be watching tonight.   :hurray:

Where are you watching Winner?  I have to see a subbed Heirs parody!

I think I am going to watch shows on my computer on viki from now on.  I usually watch on my phone, but the app doesn't have all the awesome in episode comments.  They are hysterical!

These are my people.  I tried it out with a drama I watched before, Fall In Love With Me, and when the guy came out in a ridiculous outfit a ton of people asked, "What the freak is he wearing?!" The person who asked if he was trying to be Little Lord Fauntleroy needs a prize. :smilielol5: Others commented that he was showing up Kim Tan with the funny clothes. :)

  8. I just finished Secret Garden today!!!! WOW! I think it has taken top spot for me. :hurray:  I loved the female lead in this one better than the one in Boys Over Flowers. And I loved that you got to see them interact after their marriage and see their children. Plus they actually kissed in Secret Garden instead of the weird "no kissing" kisses that are in Boys Over Flowers.  It was a great, great story. Now I've got to find my next one to watch..... :leaving:

If I had my way every final episode would include a wedding and adorable scenes with the couple and their cute boy/girl twins!!!  I loved those scenes in Secret Garden.

  9. I do this for my 6yo.  I don't pre-plan it since she loves to pick her favorite part of the story to copy.  (I do LOVE things that are pre-planned normally though!)  Right now we are reading from the first book in the My Book House series so I read and then ask her what happened.  She tells me her narration and then chooses a favorite part of the story to copy.  I look at that part and pick out a sentence or two that she could read and then write it down for her.  Later my plan is to progress to longer copywork and her writing down first a sentence and then her whole narration, not all this year I'm sure.  I may start choosing the copywork eventually in order to work on things like using quotation marks etc., or maybe we will alternate days.  If you are going to be choosing the copywork then I would personally pre-plan it since it would save some time.  While I am writing down the copywork my older girl is working on math.

  10. Classical...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Hello. My name is Charlotte Mason. You killed my narration. Prepare to add an entry to your nature journal.

    Have fun stormin' the castle.

    :001_smile:

Sorry. I'll stop now. I mean it.

    Hey, anybody want a peanut?

Just liking this post was not enough, lol!  My kids are sick today so we've been watching documentaries.  Maybe it is time for some classic movies where mom can recite all of the lines. ;)

I have several TC lectures and many, many books on my self education list.  Our library system is very good, but I think the librarians will know me as the crazy ILL lady soon. :)  They have a lot, but not enough.  One thing I like to do is to read an adult level book, like SWB's history books, and also read a middle school level book ahead of my kids.  This way I see an example of how and what to teach to that age.

  11. This is their facebook page:

    https://www.facebook.com/nobispacemhomeschool

It seems to be a CMish curriculum in Spanish.  From what I can tell on the page they are having some English books translated into Spanish; BSFU, Life of Fred etc.  I hope they will have a large list of classic children's lit originally written in Spanish since I have not found much of that.  The website does not seem to be working, but they posted a pic of the first week of plans on the facebook page.  It looks like 1st grade.  They have "Sobrino del Mago" listed for lit which I suspect is a translation of The Magician's Nephew.  I am curious to see more samples and get more information though.
