  1. Opinions on the audiobook offerings that are included in the monthly fee?  I see that now there are some audiobooks that require a credit to purchase.  How large is the pool of books that don't require a credit?  I have several voracious audiobook listeners, 10yo and 7yo, and am wondering if this would be worth it.  We do use Overdrive for our library, but some books require us to put them on hold and we are only allowed 5 holds.  That is not nearly enough for us. :)

  2. He did say that he wouldn't think about starting it in the next year, due to the severity of her reaction, I guess.

If she is allergic to wheat, but does not have celiac I would look into desensitization. We got a new allergist for my daughter with a peanut allergy who does Oral Immunotherapy for severe food allergies. The old allergist didn't recommend it so we switched to the new one. Many insurance companies cover it.

  3. DD10 loves audiobooks/videos and listened to all of the Hakim US History books in short order because they were very engaging.  Is there anything like that for middle school age for world history?  There doesn't seem to be an audiobook version of the K12 Human Odyssey series.  She already finished all 4 of the SOTW audiobooks and wouldn't be ready for the History of series from SWB.  Or videos?  We will probably start using the science videos at Uzzingo next year and something like that for history would work well here.  Ideally it would be something that covers the most important things and then we would add other extra books etc as needed.  From what I have seen of the Great Courses they would be better for high school for her.  She has already watched all of the Brainpop videos and they were a huge hit as well.

  4. We are considering buying a new Caravan and I have a question about one of the options.  The base models do not come with rear heat or air conditioning.  Does anyone have one like this?  It seems like the back bench would be uncomfortable without that.  Is that true?  We live in a climate that ranges from freezing to 100 degrees in the summer.

  5. I'm looking for a spelling app for my 10yo.  Ideally it would be something that would show "Did you mean . . .?" with a list of options, kind of like what google has for searching or the spellchecker in Word.  She is finally at the stage where she can often tell if a word is spelled incorrectly because it doesn't look right.  She knows how to use the Word spellchecker so this would be for her to use on her ipad when writing something out by hand.  An example would be if she writes existance and the app would suggest existence instead.

  6. I'll also recommend Robin McKenzie's book Treat Your Own Shoulder. I used his back book starting in August and it helped me get over the low back pain that started suddenly in July. I'm still doing the exercises to keep the pain away. So since that worked for me (and dh last summer with sciatica), I got his book for shoulder pain last week after I had been having shoulder pain in my left shoulder for a few weeks (I think both back and shoulder pain result from caring for my 76 pound wheelchair kid). I won't say my shoulder pain is gone, but my range of motion is now almost normal and I think the pain is lessening. The McKenzie method is widely used by PTs. When dh told his doctor he was using the book last summer, the doctor approved and told him it was widely recommended by doctors.

I will check out this book as well, thanks!

  7. My shoulder hurts when I pull it back or reach straight behind me.  It started after I slept on it in a funny way several months ago.  I tried googling to learn more about what the problem may be, but I am not getting anything.  What could it be?  And what kind of doctor should I see?  I don't need a referral to see a specialist.  It seems I would need to see a doctor before getting physical therapy to determine what type of injury it is.

  8. My 10yo has requested harder math and I am looking for options from more experienced moms. She is doing MM5 and feeling kind of bored, we already cross out/skip problems when she understands.  We've already done BA 3 and 4.  If BA 5 were out I think it would be perfect.  She likes the idea of Aops, but we need to get ready for their pre-algebra.  I've told her that working through MM5 and 6 this year is an option.  Would Zacarro's Upper Elementary book be a good addition?  Or Jousting Armadillos?  It seems like those books would be supplements to a full program.  She found LoF easy too.  We have already used Saxon, Singapore and Rightstart before finding that MM is the best fit for a complete program.

  9. I'm curious about cards for younger children.  I would like to get my 7 and 10yo cards to transfer their allowances to, but they have to be 16 at our credit union for an account with an adult that would come with a debit card.  Are there banks that would do that for us?  I see a pp mentioned one for her 10yo.  The prepaid options google is giving me have to be reloaded in person and I would prefer to do it at home.  I was really hoping the credit union would do that since I could transfer money from my account to theirs at home for free.  Since the amount is small I wouldn't want to pay a fee to transfer money.

  10. No controversy, I just need help choosing which type and carrier.  :tongue_smilie: It would be for the kids to be able to call me occasionally and me to check the phone's location if I couldn't get ahold of them.  Google is telling me that I wouldn't be able to track a dumb phone.  If I could that would be my preferred option.  I see that Tracfone has cheap smartphones.  But in order to track the location the data would be on the whole time, correct?  So if they were gone for several hours it would be using all that data, right?  I'm not sure if a pay as you go plan would make sense then or if we would need something with a lot more data.

  11. I second that website. I found my doctor by googling for a doctor in my area who was willing to prescribe Naturthroid and Armour. A doctor willing to do that is more likely to help. Mine is just a regular family doctor. It was wonderful for him to look at my lab results, ask how I was doing and validate that I needed some help.

Do you fluctuate between hypo and hyper symptoms? That could be a sign of Hashimoto's.
