  1. This is for my friend. She has to find 5 different types of technology. Using each item only once. For example: 1 c.d., 1 dvd, 1 website, 1 online game, 1 something else. They're studying Egar Allan Poe, "The Tell Tale Heart". She's thought of using Bart Simpson's version 'The Raven'. Has a dvd lecture from Teaching Company. The website idea will probably be easy to find. Looking for a game dealing in Literature. Also looking for Literature guides, other then their teacher's. I couldn't find anything in Progeny Press or Total Language Plus. PS: I posted this a couple of times, wasn't sure which site to post this.

  4. I thought I needed a new dishwasher. Adding 1/4-1/2 of water at the bottom of dw at the start of the cycle helps. It does, we are getting clean dishes again.
  5. How do you prepare a student for Algebra readiness? Or is that what we're doing with Pre-Algebra? I think you hit the nail on head about rushing. I've even caught him speeding up his dvd lessons with the teacher sounding like Mickey Mouse. I don't know how to deal with it since he doesn't care if he gets poor grades. He thinks school is pointless.
  6. my son consumes a gatorade/sea salt mixture daily. Dr. has me on Pedialite (adrenal issues). We're in FL so the sun can really bother us. Dr. taked us out of medicating my son, since he's home all the time. He thought he'd do better as he gets older. Especially since he doesn't have to worry about periods and pregnancy. I didn't realize there were so many folks with low bp. We're lucky... yes??
  7. Anyone have a child or teen with this? How does it affect them? My son is 14 1/2, 5'6", weights 89 lbs. bp averages 70/45-90/50. He does pass out on occasion. Zero energy. He has improved since puberty (this year). Still low energy. Along with the low BP he has fast heart rate: 88-100. On a positive note, doctors say he'll probably never have high blood pressure. Which is good since he'll reach a height of 6'3- 6'5".
  8. Skip ahead. See if that resolves things. I've never averaged grades with my older daughter. I rarely have her re-do something. But this, with my son is a constant, of late.
  9. My son is going through the review section of TT Pre-Algebra. He's making careless mistakes. For example, today he had 8 out of 30 problems wrong (usually addition and subtraction). I send the paper back and he corrects his mistakes without incident. This changes his grade from a 73% to 98-100%. This happens on a daily basis. I don't why this keeps occuring. Perhaps he is bored. He is 14, but he started school late because of a medical condition (nearly resolved). TT Pre-Algebra's pace will pick up to a more challenging level in about 10 more lessons. Which grade should I record? Should i I average each score between the orignal and corrected? In homeschool, we can rework problems until he gets 100% but in a public school he would be up a creek. He's doing fine with the rest of his work. Still wondering if we should skip ahead to more challenging sections and perhaps the math-boredom (hopefully) mistakes will resolve on their own.
  10. drew the alphabet on the drive way. I'd say a word and my son would run to each individual letter to spell it. Sometimes, he would use a squirt gun and shot each letter with water. We have magnetic letters and both of us donned catcher's mitts. Announce word and he'd toss each letter in the correct (hopefully) order for me to catch. Then he would give me a word and I woud do the same. We've used alphabet cereal. He'd spell the word then eat each letter. He would also type each spelling words on the computer. He liked the hands on approach at that age. We found all kinds of ways to have spelling fun. Once in a while, I'd have him write the words out so I'd have something for my portfolio.
  11. I found myself buying curriculum then changing it constantly as he hated this history and science, and so on. I finally decided he just doesn't like school. Now I buy what I'm comfortable with. I figured one of us might as well be happy. I'm comfortable with this as he wouldn't have a choice in public school if he attended. My daughter was the opposite, loved school loved all her curriculum.
  12. I notice your child is to grade their pace, then correct any mistakes and re-score the grade. How to you determine their grades, really. My son would get straight A's if I record his grades this way. Should I just round original scores with re-scores????
  13. Mydd is not interested in looking at Universities. Presently, she's dual enrolling at a State college. She's 17 and will finish high school next spring.
  14. I often write math problems out for my son. Today, he did 22 math problems in his TT workbook, then the exact 22 problems I wrote out for him. He didn't even notice that he did the same problems. What kind of mind is this??? And no, he isn't crushing on a girl, just wants to play videos.
  15. I ask this becausem I am. She sounds like me. I can have a conversation with you and forget what we were talking about five minutes later.
  16. He wasn't reading the text, and he was speeding up the dvds. I walked into his room and his teacher sounded like Mickey Mouse. Long story, but we jumped back and couple of chapters and started over. If he does it again, we'll start from the beginning with me sitting by his side.:D
