  1. Thank you Cleo. I was hoping you would post as your English is great and it's not your native language. I will suggest that to her.
  2. I'm not Catholic, but I did it. I got: St. Agnes of Rome Feast: January 21 Patronage: Chastity; Engaged Couples; Gardeners; Girls; Rape Victims; Virgins I guess that fits since I'm still single. Can I ask-what does it mean to have a patron saint?
  3. I have a friend from India. She lives in India and I communicate with her online. She really wants me to help her with her English, and I admit I am a bit stuck. We have been writing back and forth and I have been correcting her writing, but she wants/needs more than this. She wants to perfect her grammar, and I am afraid I just am not giving her what she needs. She communicates well and her English is very understandable, she just has problems with grammar and some word order and especially expression. Can anyone suggest anything that I can do to help, or suggest a free online site that will help? I would greatly appreciate it if I could find a way to help her better. Thanks so much.
  4. I suggest a cockatiel. They are such fun, friendly little birds. If you get them hand raised, they are fantastic pets.
  5. My mom and I use this: http://www.aubrey-organics.com/Category/124_1/Dry_Skin.aspx It's all natural and we love it. We keep it in the refrigerator because it lasts us for months and so keeps fresher that way.
  6. I love Aubrey products. They are all natural, and their shampoo is the best I've ever used. I really love it. Here is a product of theirs that is safe for color treated hair. http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ProductInfo/094.aspx
  7. I didn't vote, but I learned about him from our pastor. He used to be a missionary to Ethiopia and talks about him sometimes.
  8. Frontline had stopped working for us as well, and our vet recommended Comfortis. It is a pill that they take. It works wonderfully, is very easy to give to them (you don't have to worry about the stuff being on the back of their neck and accidentally touching it.) It also kills the fleas as soon as they bite the dog, so there's no need to worry about spraying. I don't mean to sound like an advertisement, the stuff has just worked wonderfully for us and we had a horrible flea situation even after two or three applications of Frontline. We gave our dogs Comfortis and it not only took care of the fleas on the dogs, but the fleas in the house as well.
  9. When I was a kid, my dad would take us shopping for our mom, and mom would take us shopping for our dad. It was a lot of fun, and they would let us know what the other would like. I learned a lot about how to shop for someone and how to find a meaningful gift...as well as how much each cared for the other. It was a special time for me. They would give us a certain amount of money and let us pay for it by ourselves. For some reason, I always felt like I was spending "my" money :001_huh:
  10. Thank you, Ruth! Both for the encouragement and the great link. There is a two week break at the end of December, so that will hopefully give me what I need to finally catch up!
  11. I have heard a lot of good things about Lingua Latina. I think that might be more my style. I am doing 38 Latin Stories along with the Wheelocks, and I really like it. I think it's fun translating stories...it's all those sentences in the book that I hate! I also ordered the Scribblers book last week, and it looks like it will be fun. I'm glad that other people seem to have trouble as well. It seems like there is just so much to learn. I had read a lot on here about how people said how their kids loved Latin and how much fun it was, so when I started having trouble, I though..."What in the world is wrong with me!"
  12. I don't think I'm having any problems with grammar. I really liked grammar in school and I understand the grammatical concepts, although the genitive and dative can confuse me sometimes. The problem seems to be pulling it all together. I forget so many things, and there's so much to remember just to decipher one sentence. That's the thing. With French, Spanish, or even Hindi (I studied that for a while), you can look at a sentence and read it at a glance. With Latin, it doesn't feel like I'm learning to read, it feels like I'm learning to decipher a secret code. Every sentence for me has to be taken individually, and painstakingly taken apart and put back together before I know what it means. There is also so much to remember. I used to be great at remembering things. Now, my brain seems to rebel at each new concept! I am doing a Latin study group, but got behind due to some very stressful times a few weeks back, and I am determined to catch up!!
  13. Thank you elegantlion. That would be a good word for how I feel-overwhelmed. Do you think the Latin for Children book you were talking about would be a good supplement and explain things better, or would it be too simplified to be of much help? I am ordered the workbook a couple days ago-hopefully that will help some.
  14. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one! Is Latin supposed to be so difficult? I'm doing a Wheelock study group and I feel so stupid because it just seems so hard. I'm glad I'm doing it, and I do enjoy it, but it doesn't seem to by anything like French in terms of difficulty level. What has been your experience. Do you have any tips? ETA: I meant studied by the way! Don't know why I put "has studies".
  15. My dad does beekeeping and swarm removal. I asked him and he sent me a link to this directory. Maybe it will help: http://www.beesource.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=263
  16. That sounds like a wonderful present, Blossom. Would have been great when my neck hurt so badly yesterday!
  17. We have two German Shepherds (well, actually my sister has two German Shepherds and we are watching them while she is away at college, but we've had one of them for 9 years). Anyways, they are wonderful dogs. They are large and need a lot of exercise, but they are also very obedient and easy to train. They are protective of our family and extremely sweet with family members-just big babies. I don't necessarily trust them with strangers. One is scared to death of our cats and the other just thinks they are there for his hunting entertainment, so we have to keep them separated. Could you just give the dog a try to see how it would work and see how the dog does with your cat? I would have the owner visit and just see how he does with the cat in the room, how he reacts, and if it seems to be okay, give it a trial by having the dog stay with you for a week.
  18. Maybe you could do scented sachets. Get some of those organdy bags and fill them with lavender, rose, jasmine, or whatever you like with a little essential oil. You could also make the bags if you wanted to.
  19. Maybe if you like someone's work on Etsy, you can ask them if they can do a custom order for you. I'm sure they'd be happy to!
  20. Yes, joannqn, that was the one I remembered. I knew there were several stories that went with it as well. I was hoping that maybe there was some sort of news story about it as I don't know if she could use that, but I guess I'll let her decide that. Thank you so much. I just couldn't find it for anything. Thank you for the other replies as well. It really helps. There are so many stories that I keep finding.
  21. My sister is doing a presentation for a college class and has decided to do it on the TSA. I had told of a story I head on here about a 24 month old being inappropriately searched and she has asked me for the article. I was under the impression that it was on the radio. I have looked through probably 50 pages of posts on the TSA, but cannot find that particular piece of information. Was there a news story done about it? Also, if you have any other pertinent information or ideas, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
  22. Canaries and finches aren't birds you want to get if you want a pet you can interact with. They are pretty and interesting, but you can't hold them on your finger or anything. The best pet birds we ever had were two cockatiels we got from a man who hand raised all of his birds. The were a lot of fun, friendly, and sweet tempered birds. The worst we've had were lovebirds. They were awful. They woke me up every morning squawking and just were very unpleasant birds.
