  1. I am also reading the Bible in 90 days, the 2nd time for me with this plan! I have more info here on my blog if you are interested! I am also a mentor with a huge online team of readers, this time around there are over 1,000 reading with us!! It generally takes me about an hour a day of reading with this plan. And honestly, this plan has worked better than longer ones for me because I am only in some of the harder books to read for 3 data or so. :)
  2. Do any of you have opinions on which one of these is better? The Math Shark is just over half the price of Flash Master on amazon right now...but I've heard more about Flash Master... So, any opinions?? thanks! ETA: the other option is to just make some flashcards. Ha! We have GOT to do something, though, cause my girls are not learning these facts!
  3. I don't see any cumulative grades anywhere? 1GirlTwinboys - I wrote you back. :) ETA: I am not really concerned with their grades and wouldn't even care at all if I didn't have to turn in grades for our umbrella...so I'm just trying to figure out what to send in. thanks!
  4. We are using Teaching Textbooks 3 this year and love it! But I have not found a way to get a grade average... So I'm just curious how the rest of you do it. Do you just add them all up and average them yourselves? Do you add in the quizzes, too? thanks!
  5. thank you all SO much!! I love all these ideas and am going to check out the links... LOVE the penguin cupcake idea - I could give each girl the right stuff and let her make her own penguin maybe?!
  6. My daughter's favorite animal is a penguin so she is wanting a penguin bday party in Feb. :D I am looking for a few cute craft ideas for a few girls to work on together...in the 7-10yr old range... Are there sites like Oriental Trading where you can get a group of crafts for a decent price? Or cute ideas you've seen online that we could do? Cake? Cupcakes? I've already made the invitations...so now I just need help with the party part.
  7. Thank You for sharing about the podcasts, last night I listened to the 2 labeled his conversion story. Very good stuff! Now that I know the whole thing is a series I am going to go back and start at the beginning. :)
  8. Jennifer, can you tell me what the title of that podcast is?? I clicked on your link but it gave me a list of them. Thanks!
  9. I'm not sure if this would be what you are looking for...but I LOVE these nature studies!!
  10. Jenny, that is what I was looking for... I just thought I'd see if someone had a printable one somewhere that was already all pretty and everything. :) I will just type up my own questions if I can't find anything! Thanks!!
  11. I don't completely know what I'm looking for. :D But some kind of notebooking page that has different spots for kids to fill in different things while they are learning about a person? I'm looking for one that isn't specific to a certain person - just could be used with anyone you are studying. Thanks!
  12. If you are Protestant (like me) but still want the prayers through the day (like me) there is a new book out that is AWESOME. It is called Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals I first saw this book mentioned on Ann Voskamp's blog, A Holy Experience. I have used the Divine Office and I've used Phyllis Tickle's books in the past - and love them as well - but there are sometimes a few things in it that confuse me or I don't get. (Just b/c I'm not Catholic, I think.) But, what is neat about this book, Common Prayer, is at the beginning there are lots of explanations for people like me who weren't raised in a liturgical setting. I really, really like it!! HTH!
  13. I have some pictures of our school room on my blog! Actually quite a few pictures, ha!! I love seeing others school rooms!! Thanks for sharing!! :)
  14. We do not lapbook regularly (or with every unit study that we do) but I do have pictures on my blog of lapbooks we've done over the years. Here is our lapbook category on my blog. ETA: here are some specific links if that is easier: Seashell Lapbook Ping Lapbook Gingerbread Lapbook (my favorite one ever!) :) We do simple! And sometimes we turn make it into notebooks instead of lapbooks, but I think if you scroll down you can get the idea. :) HTH!
  15. Hi there, we've been a FIAR family since the start and have loved it! I have quite a few posts on my blog about FIAR, too, if you want another look at how it looks in our home! I have a FIAR category where all my FIAR posts are. I usually check out a few "go-along" books from the library on whatever topics we will be covering with each "row." So, for instance, when we rowed Ping, I checked out a kid's book on China, a few on ducks, a book on Yangtzee river, etc. Does that make sense?? As for order, you can do the books in ANY order. We've rowed books from volumes 1-4 over the past few years and enjoyed each volume equally! In January I'm going to do the unit study on Helen Keller from Beyond Five in a Row with my 2 girls and still do a few FIAR titles with my son as well. We'll see how it goes! :)
  16. Thanks ladies...we do a lot of apples, peanut butter and cheese... Maybe my question should be how to BROADEN my children's tastebuds so they will eat different fruits?!? (though I have one girl who is a great eater!!) I do carrot and broccoli with ranch dip, too... No one in our house likes hummus. :tongue_smilie:sorry. :) Do you all pull these same options out daily and will the kids go for them daily?? thanks!!
  17. Are there such foods that fit all 3 categories?!?! I'd love to hear your suggestions!! THANKS!!
  18. Kim, funny you should mention this, I am going to be starting Project Life...and I just posted about it on my blog. I LOVE that it's going to make things SO much easier for me to keep up with!! Project Life (from my blog)
  19. I actually just noticed the other day (or had never thought about it before, I guess) that my grandmother has pictures from ALL of her children's and grandchildren's weddings on a big table in their foyer...she has 5 children and 12 grandchildren. 2 of those couples are now divorced...I wondered about it,but I think for her, it is the memories...and the fact that she has pictures of all other family members on that table, so she leaves them? It is a curious thing, though, and I think if it bothered me I would talk with her about it. I can see how it might be a touchy thing...
  20. My kids are getting a Wii for Christmas and my DH and I are very excited to start playing!! :D
  21. I can really relate to what Kymmie wrote... I am prone to depression...the deep, dark kind. Right now, I am good and am on medication. But, I think what I write/create is better when I am low. My prayer life is better too. I feel closer to God...strange, I know. But I guess it is this desperation for Him that isn't always present when I'm doing fine. I am mostly a musician and sometimes a wanna-be writer with my blog and journaling, etc. I have been a melancholy probably my whole life I just didn't know it. I hate my personality type! :glare:
  22. For tabs at the top, that is a relatively new "thing" for blogger...I love it too!! :) When you are typing a post or anywhere else behind the scenes on your blog, do you see where it says "edit pages" or "create page?" These "pages" will be across the top of your blog - you have the capability to create up to 10 of them if you are with blogger. I think you can even choose if you want them on the side or on the top... does that help??
  23. I have listed mine on 1 page on my blog, if you're interested in checking that out. I have favorites in most of those categories you listed. (instead of me typing them all out...I have lots of favorites!) :) Favorite Books
