  1. Hi! I found the PM K teacher's guide at a used bookstore so I got it. I then ordered PM readers and K workbook to piece it together. Most days I don't even open the teachers guide but guide my son using the workbook alone. I don't have the CD or museum pieces. The workbook does use D'Nealian. It teaches letter sounds (lots of pages where mom reads out pictures and child circles or colors those that start with a specific sound). It also has handwriting practice sheets for each letter as they are taught. There are also some crafty type things in the workbook but not a whole lot of that. The readers look interesting and engaging. The workbook has a coloring sheet of a famous piece of art for each letter at the end which I like a lot. It has the art coloring sheet on one side and a brief explanation of the art and artist on the other side. I think it's a nice touch. The workbook is 524 pages.
  2. Thanks for sharing! Anyone else have some favorites?
  3. Hi! I recently purchased SOTW Year 1 with Activity Guide and audio. I went ahead and bought it now since I found a good deal on it used. I won't be using it for at least a year, but I started looking through the Activity Guide at the reading lists of supplemental books. We live in a rural area where the library is small and holds take a long time to arrive. I would like to buy the best of the best read alouds (nonfiction and fiction) to go along with SOTW. Which of the books listed in the Activity Guide for Year 1 of SOTW have your kids loved? I'd love to hear some recommendations of the best of the best. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for sharing that link! That blog has tons of great resources for use with SOTW! Thanks for sharing!
  5. Thanks for all your thoughts on SOTW and TOG! I have purchased TOG Y2 because I found a great deal. Now that I have the curriculum in hand, I've realized that our library system in the small town where we live doesn't have many of the books. I was feeling a little bummed but then noticed where SOTW is listed as an alternate reading. I'm so glad to see that is working well for some of you! After reading these posts, I'm thinking I can use SOTW as a regular read-aloud and add in lit books and others when I can. We won't start TOG for a couple of years but I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and figure out how it works! Thanks for sharing your thoughts here!
  6. I'm trying to decide between using FIAR or Peak with Books with my preschooler next year. He loves to listen to books. I've read book suggestions from Honey for a Child's Heart this year. We've done a few lapbooks this year that I've downloaded from the Internet. I'm wanting something more structured for him next year. I'm interested in FIAR or Peak with Books. For those who have used either of these curricula, what was your favorite and least favorite thing about it? Has anyone used both to really compare them?
  7. I'm defintely a crazy one as I'm researching and planning for when my three year old will be ready for homeschooling! He's my oldest so we've got a while but I'm so tempted to start buying curriculum so I can get my hands on it and look through it. For now we're just reading lots of great children's books. So I'm always on the lookout for great lit!
  8. We're reading the Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh to our three year old. He loves it!
  9. Thanks for the info! I have preschoolers now and would like to purchase TOG sometime in the next year or so. I'm excited about homeschooling and love the philosophy / design of TOG. I really love that you can cycle through the same guide several times with children on multiple levels. I'm almost tempted to go ahead and buy Year 1 just for fun to be able to look through the whole thing and get a good feel for it. But I know the update is coming out sometime relatively soon so it would probably be much better to wait!
  10. I remember reading somewhere that TOG Year 1 will be redesigned and updated soon. I tried to find the info on TOG's website but was unable to find it. Does anyone know when the updated Year 1 will be available?
  11. I've been using BFIAR with my 3 year old. He absolutely loves the lapbooks I've printed from HomeschoolShare to use with the stories! :001_smile:
  12. Thanks for your advice! I have read WTM and found it very helpful, but also a little overwhelming. Matilda,I just looked up hands on homeschooling and it looks really neat. Thanks for recommending that! It's helpful to hear all of your opinions!
  13. Hi! My oldest is almost 3 and I have an almost 1 year old. We are planning on homeschooling from a Christian perspective once our kids get older and I've been researching options and possibilities. I'm very excited about homeschooling! Obviously I have a while before structured homeschool needs to take place, but what advice do you have for someone preparing to start the homeschool journey in a few years? What books would you recommend for me to read to help me prepare for this task?
  14. I'm a mother of preschoolers and investigating homeschool options. I love what I've seen in samples of TOG and am thinking about using it for grades 1-12. So yes I would definitely order it if it was free! Curious about more moms' thoughts on this topic!
  15. We absolutely love our MacBook laptop! We've had our MacBook for 4 years and it's still going strong and virus-free. Would never go back to a PC! Take the plunge. You won't regret it!
