  1. I am just starting to learn about the CM method and plan to use it this year. I wanted to start latin with my 11yo son but am wondering how it would be done CM style? Any suggestions, book titles, links, or examples would be much appreciated! Thank you!
  2. I forgot about Typing Instructor, thanks for the reminder Jennifer! I have never used it but remember that Timberdoodle highly recommended it. And thanks for the other program suggestion, Wendy! I will have to go and check it out, too. Thank you for the quick help! This is a great forums :001_smile:
  3. Does anyone know of a typing program that rewards the child with an opportunity to play a video-like game after completing the lesson? I have Type To Learn and it only rewards them with an introduction to a person in history...pretty boring for my son who loves video games and would gladly do a lesson if it meant getting to a game. This could be a program or an online program, either one. Thank you for any help! Kelly
  4. CTG does look good...I hope you and your children have a great time with it! We used MFW ECC this year and my son liked it and learned alot of geography and science. I like the look of the sample MFW offers of their CTG but the sample of WP Ancient looks fun and interesting and an interesting variety of books that go with it. I would love to hear from anyone who may have used both or at least been able to get a better look at it.
  5. I am trying to decide between using Winter Promise Quest for the Ancient World or My Father's World Creation to the Greeks with my DS 11. Any opinions about these programs or comparisons would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any help! Kelly
  6. Has anyone figured out how to get to the instant que that we set up on Netflix? So far, I can only scroll through the movie selections on the TV but can't figure out how to find the instant que. I remember reading something about it on another thread but that was before we got our Wii. Any help appreciated :tongue_smilie:
  7. You, too, Jennifer...what type of TV did you hook your Roku to? We have an older one so wondering if I need a newer HD type. Thank you!
  8. I want to get a Roku player but not sure if I should get the SD variety or the HD and was wondering if you could help, Wendy. We have an older TV, not an HD type. Would the HD Roku work on our TV anyways, do you know? I could probably find this out on the website but since you have first hand experience I thought it would be easier to ask you! What kind of TV did you hook yours to? Thank you!
  9. I used SL with a 13yo and 15yo. It was alot of reading and not much, if any, hands on activities. It worked ok for them but I thought it was boring after doing Unit Studies with my 2 older ones years earlier. Winters Promise looks very well done with lots of activities and interesting books. From the sampler on their site I am considering using it for my youngest who will be 10 next school year. Just my 2 cents worth :)
  10. Thank you, everyone....guess I should have known:tongue_smilie:!!! The link was very helpful, too:001_smile:
  11. I'm sorry but please tell me what WTM and SWB stands for....thank you!
  12. I would love to know, too! I might use MUH this next year and would love to hear input.
  13. Colleen, your input has been most helpful, also! It's nice to have a place to share what we have done and know about to help others...especially if it saves us money and hairloss from worrying :001_smile: I will probably just get a workbook....Thank you so much!
  14. I agree, too! Theres no need to follow a public school level schedule and just let our kids progress naturally!
  15. I try everyday to have my son remember and sing for me one of the history sentences that he has learned throughout the year. I will usually do this in the afternoon after he is done with schoolwork and just playing or helping in the kitchen. If we can't remember it together we will go to the computer and find that particular one together and play it. I just do this sporadically like a pop quiz! Makes it fun and not laborious.
  16. I have one Homeschool main folder that I put other folders in, like one folder will be titled "Art Studies" which will include all the great sites I find that have art curriculum I like and would love to use someday. Other examples are "Science Sites" under which I would also put some sub folders titles "Astronomy Studies", "Biology Stuff", "Places to by Experiments", etc. HTH!
  17. The Keys to Decimals would be best. My oldest used the Key to Algebra then merged into Saxon Algebra with ease!
  18. Thank you everyone for your input...it is really helpful! The MOH does look like it will work well for us and the samples of SOTW activities that I saw online looked maybe a bit too young for my son. I am wondering what the CD's are that were mentioned...are they just the stories on tape?
  19. Thank you for your help, Negin! Did you start him at 9 with Level 1? I'm wondering if I should start with Level 1 because there is a particular format that needs to be followed or can I jump into any level? So just using the workbooks was enough for your son...that's good to know. The less books I need to get the better. Is the Strong Fundamentals book basically a teacher manual and explains the theory behind the program?
  20. Has anyone tried both The Mystery of History and The Story of the World? If so, which one did you like the best and why? I am trying to find a chronological classical history study that has the lessons planned for a 10yo. Thank you for any help!
  21. I know its been awhile, but I just found your post and was wondering what you thought of The Scientists Apprentice program? I just heard about it and am considering it for my soon to be 10yo. Thank you for any help!
  22. Is Writing With Ease just narration and copy work? Or is that just for the early grades? Could I start it with a 10yo who doesn't like writing? Another question... Do I need both the Fundamentals and a workbook? Any help is appreciated :)
  23. Thank you, everyone...this discussion has been very helpful. I have been considering TT with my 9yo son who is very behind in math only because I have been so slack and trying too many different new on the market programs. I still have not found one to just stick with and was considering getting TT. I just got Singapore and would love to know what others think of that. It is quite colorful and seems simple...is it too simple, though?
