  1. Sean Thomas is certainly clever! My littlest boy is named Will. Feel free to pass that on. Lol.
  2. That is gorgeous!!!!! I say something minimal...such as framed outwork from the kids.
  3. Here's where you can see samples online http://www.christianbook.com/christian-liberty-nature-reader-second-edition/9781930092518/pd/25731?event=CFN
  4. Well, we have the K book and 1 book. I think the K book would be the most unique book of the set because it presents animals, etc. Alphabetically. While the others are stories. I had my first grader read hers last year. I think they are partioned pretty well as far as read aloud length for elementary students. We will use one of them this year for science, eventually. I say try a couple out first. I don't know how repetitive they are after the first two years though!
  5. And things are going pretty smoothly with teaching two children for the first time. But I've realized I really pushed my DD last year. Seriously, I don't know what I was thinking. I was a real stickler about the hours we put in, but this year, um..no. I'm focusing on quality not quantity. This year, as a second grader, things are easier to implement subject wise. Maybe it's the curriculum I chose, or that it's NOT my first year homeschooling. At any rate, I am not getting the heartache from her about math and spelling like I did last year. And I don't feel pushed during the day. Go figure, more to teach and I'm less stressed. Lol.
  6. Totally. Just ordered Saxon math to check out. We are doing Abeka math but this was enticing. Also I picked up a few more manipulatives, and critical thinking type books. I didn't know the nature handbook was going for $14 right now...wow!
  7. Well, We love Sequential Spelling so far.....DD seems to not dread spelling now! And, I am actually using Bob Jones Beginnings for the K5 boy of mine...and he really is liking that and so am I because it's all laid out. Writing With Ease 1 is great and simple! So far, we are doing great with the choices I made and those would be my top three picks of things that are working well!
  8. Aww...hugs to you. I'm sure she will have much more confidence, too, with the glasses, and you! I think it all looks great. It looks like a great second grade program!
  9. Can we start a blogging support group?! Lol! Seriously...I've been bummed because ive een blogging for years and at this point not many comment on mine. Now that could be my own fault because I've not had time to post on others plus I switched from blogger to typepad to blogger back to typepad this year, too. Lol! I didn't set up followers on my typepad till recently though. To be honest, I feel so inferior to other bloggers, and especially to my sister in law, a new blogger, whom gets lots of comments now and followers. I guess it's just a slow time in my life, and I've personally dealt with just feeling blah about blogging. I keep it up for my parents, really. They'd miss my pics and little stories about the kids, etc.
  10. Awww....it sounds like it was a great exchange of daughterly and motherly respect towards the topic! :)
  11. this is soooo awesome!! great ideas!!!!!!!!!! especially the pizza! ha!
  12. for sure. i am using this but not going to add the Bible, although we have Bible elsewhere. easily secular! have fun! i keep looking through it, and i am excited!
  13. I have a 2nd grader to be who I am doing SOTW 1 AND BJUs heritage studies 2- I am adding that heritage studies because American History, government, etc. is necessary (at least in OHIO! LOL) each year, I'm guessing from the required listing of subjects. You could, as a suggestion, do a "break" of SOTW sometime and do a quarter/semester/whatever of the BJU Heritage Studies. Change it up a little. You'd still do it, and it may make you feel better if you end up chopping other stuff (which, I would only do one MATH for sure). HTH!!! I am also doing a geography unit- just lightly and for fun, no pressure. I really don't think it's overkill, IMO, to have that as well.
  14. Oh wow! Just wanted to say I'm sorry that this happened! Geesh! Also, I just ordered some things off of there and now I'm worried. Lol!!
  15. This one from same site looks neat too http://egsc.usgs.gov/isb/pubs/teachers-packets/mapshow/

  18. I am doing this same thing .... I am using a few items, such as a multi cultural calendar, children's mission devotional book, galloping the globe, etc to help with it. Here is a post on my blog that shows a few things I am using. I will be putting more blog posts up soon that are more specific. Hth! http://sweetperipety.blogspot.com/2010/07/file-by-file-part-two.html
  19. Okay, when I say Social Studies, I don't mean history so much (we are doing SOTW1) but geography, citizenship, etc....I need some assistance. I have a few things already that don't cover it ALL for second grade social studies, but I'm looking for suggestions that are more comprehensive. And if not that, just some suggestions! LOL! I was debating the Homeschool Ponies curriculum, Volume 1, a Nonfiction Reading Comprehension book for grade 2, and some internet resources I found. btw, We are doing Galloping the Globe, With a cultural spin, so I guess I need US geography ideas- games, books, etc. I have a Ker that will come along for the ride. I forgot to say that my DD received her ITBS scores, and she did very well. Social Studies was the lowest, and so I really want something that will help this in the future. She loves the subject and we did cover it pretty good for first grade, but for some reason, the test score showed the lower average on that subject. I was also thining of getting a Scott Foresman Social Studies program that a school would use. Thoughts? :):):)
  20. Uh.....sure leaves me frustrated too. Geeshhh...don't know where to begin!
