  1. This past week I thought I was going to get off cheap.  Yeah that didn't happen.

Store -- couple food items but geez prices were high on what I needed -- ok didn't NEED cokes but kinda did ;) that is my treat

Haircut for boys -- I wanted one but it can wait

Phone card to add service days to boys phone -- tracfone service days ending

    Baseball fees

Birthday gift for secret pal thing our group is doing

I too have so many books I haven't read and keep getting more.  More free kindle books and borrowing free kindle books from the library and borrowing actual books from the library.  I have a ton of actual books that I bought (thrift stores and yard sales) still sitting around my house waiting to be read.

  3. The back of my fridge freezes or nearly freezes things.  I would open it and smell it.  Then tear it open.  It might still be pink in center.

I have eaten some that was brown but still smelled good.

  4. Around here the mention of snow sends people to the store.   We don't get much snow (some years none).  So if we get much snow it might be awhile before the streets are cleared to go anywhere.

I try to keep a stocked pantry (& and toilet paper).  I call it the Girl Scout in me ;)  (being prepared).  It is just part of my nature.  I don't mean hoarding, just an extra package or 2 of tp and some extra groceries.   But I admit when I hear bad weather coming in I will double check to see what I have on hand and if I need to pick up something else.  Most of the time I am ok.

Like other posters, sometimes it just falls on my regular shopping day.  Drives me nuts when people talk about what I am buying.  I don't care if it is a storm coming or if I am just stocking up on something on sale.  It isn't anyone's business.  Like the time I was stocking up on ground beef. (no storm, it was just a great price and we were completely out of ground beef)  No I didn't take it all.  They were putting out several more racks of meat as I was getting mine.  Anyway I had like 10 packs of ground beef.  Walking though the store some man looked in my cart and said "good grief do you have enough".   I wanted to say "none of your business" but instead I said "not sure I might get more" :D

  5. Spent more than I meant to this week but most was for food items that were on sale.  I justified buying them because 1. they were on sale 2. things we eat all the time and 3. by buying them I can have more meals (goes along with food already on hand).  Also needed a new hairdryer.  My old one died.

Did by some extra items.  I needed some cokes (ok nobody "needs" soda but sometimes they help me through the day)  and bought dss some arrow tips (on clearance.

I am happy to stay home but sometimes dh likes to go places.  We have snow this weekend.  Makes staying home easier ;)

  7. Had to take the dog to the vet- 300 unplanned.   Otherwise, it was a good week. The grocery store had some of their premium hams for .99 lb.  I got a two of those for the freezer.

Now this week will be budget draining.  Medical expenses this week.  And I need to take the dog to a new vet to see what is really wrong.

    Sorry about your dog.

    Good deal on the hams

  8. Oh Desert Strawberry :grouphug: Dd went through some very scary testing last summer, and we're waiting for a genetics appointment in the spring.

This past week-----groceries (I shopped locally!), gas, parking at the airport when dd20 left, 2 inexpensive kindle books for me, and then tonight which blew the whole week! 3 tickets for Star Wars (2nd for me, 3rd for dh and dd) $15 each!!!! because we had only the choice of 3D (vomit) or Xd (larger screen, better sound), plus popcorn because duh, and then dinner at Noodles & Co.

    Oh well.

Yes popcorn is a MUST have   :lurk5:  The big one :drool5:   I love popcorn, especially at the movies.  I don't get to go often but when I do guarantee I am getting popcorn.

  9. Is the food seasoned enough?  My grandmother was happy in the nursing home except the food was rather bland.  She liked seasoned and spicy foods.  I got her a shaker of Ms Dash (she used that at home) and some pepper sauce.  She kept them in a little bag on her wheelchair so she would have it at meals.

    Also

    Books

    magazines

    Individually wrapped snacks

Window clings to stick on her window

  10. Put ours in DVD/CD  binders years ago.  Best thing ever.

I used the smaller zipper binder (holds 100 I think).  I typed up the name of movie and rating on address labels, printed them off and stuck on the sleeve after I put the movies in.  The labels make it easy to know if something has been taken out and not put back in.   I do not put anything in alphabetical order.  Just as I grab them I put them in.

I do separate movies by "categories"  And put numbers on the spine of the cases.  Each binder holds a certain kind of movie.

    #1 -- cartoon type movies

    #2 -- kids/early teen movies

    #3 -- older teen/adult movies

    #4 -- horror movies

    #5 -- holiday movies

To start it off I divided all the movies into piles by movie type (how I was going to put in binder).  Typed up the list for each pile,  Then stuck them in the binder, stuck on sticker, used a shape on the binder, stuck on shelf.  It really didn't take to long.  Then if we get a new movie it goes in the next available spot in whatever binder.  If I can't print a label right then I just write it on a label and stick it on the spot.

  11. My dss have played baseball for years.  And here is my take on it.

I think sports are great for kids  IF  your child enjoys it.  I have seen so many parents push their child to do better.  And I'm not talking about encouraging a child, (I am all for encouraging).  I am talking about signing them up for extra lessons, yelling & belittling them and in general making a child miserable.

I have seen so many children that enjoyed baseball but were pushed so hard it sucked the joy right out of it.  I mean even major league ball players say "if you aren't having fun then you shouldn't play".

Yes I know (believe me I know) sports take practice and hard work but there should be some joy in there.

Drives me nuts too when coaches don't let every child play.  I have seen coaches leave 5yr olds on the bench the whole game.  Uh how are they ever going to learn if they don't get to play.  They are 5 playing a park league baseball game.  They are not in the World Series.  If they win great.  If they lose, that is part of life and will try again next game.

Makes me angry when coaches and other parents yell at children for messing up.  There is a difference in raising your voice to be heard across the field than being hateful and demeaning.

So if the child is happy and wants to do it ---GREAT   but if the child is playing to fulfill a dream of the parent -- I don't like that.

  12. When it comes to homemade gifts, do not discount the value of the time you put into making it! It takes thirty seconds to pick up a gift card.

    This

Like you I do homemade gifts and feel sometimes like I am being cheap.  I too am working on that.  I spend time thinking about the person and give the things they can use (or eat).

  13. As a graduate of the University I have to pick a bit. It is Auburn University in Auburn.

As someone who still considers Alabama home despite my current location I can set aside other loyalty to say Roll Tide.

Yes!That is what looked funny in my post! I couldn't figure out what what was off. But also wasn't able to concentrate to well. Dss & dh were arguing loudly. Goofing off joking not mad kind.

  14. Aaaaah. I'm not a football person, not s college sports person, and I couldn't have told you which university was located in auburn as the OP alluded to. Thus, I was lost. I've not heard that chant thingy before, but it all makes significantly more sense with context

    Thanks!

University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa AL   mascot Big Al the elephant

University of Auburn is in Auburn AL   mascot Aubie the Tiger

Roll Tide definitely refers to Alabama, not Auburn.

My family is from AL and divided as to who they root for.

  15. I too am trying to use more of what we have for meals.  We are blessed to have freezers full of food.  I get in a rut and cook the same old things.  Then have to go to the store for the items for those meals.  My goal is to find new recipes using stuff we have in new ways (and hopefully not go to the store much)

  16. Took ds to get boots.  Not counting this money spent since he was suppose to have gotten boots for Christmas.  Couldn't find them before so I gave him and IOU and put the boot money back.  Did luck out and found them on sale.  He got a more expensive pair of boots for what I had put back. :hurray:

Also went shopping.  I had a list and mostly stuck to it.  The only exception was when I found a few in store sales and thought about stuff I had at home that would go with it to make meals.
