  1. Yes, Dec 1 as well! Even though I was talking about Nov 30, I was still in denial that tomorrow is December?!
  2. Sending support to those whose kids are trying to submit UC and Cal State today.
  3. Mine too. Hugs of commiseration.
  4. DS looked a bit into what each college requires, for example John Muir requires 2 areas out of 3 in fine arts, foreign languages, and humanities. While he loves the humanities, he doesn't really want to take classes in fine arts and foreign languages are his Achilles heel. (I'm the same, so I feel his pain.) OTOH, he ranked Warren higher because of it's link to internship programs. I guess another aspect, which I don't think he looked into, is the location and dorm buildings of each.
  5. DS is also interested in aerospace and aviation, and one of the schools he applied to charges quite a bit for the flight instruction. I've heard that students often take as many flying hours as they can during the summer at more reasonable local airport prices to offset some of the cost. It might be something to look into.
  6. DS got the UC apps submitted, very late a couple of nights ago. Somehow we didn't realize that UCSD would require him to rank their 8 undergraduate colleges at the time he applied. (Eighth college isn't on that list, but it was on the application for ranking.) Heads up for anyone else, in case you're thinking, as he was, that it wouldn't take that long to get everything submitted. Don't start late, or wait until the last minute. DS and I were talking about how a lot of those rankings are probably somewhat randomly chosen by students at 11:50pm on Nov 30 and that it might be better to have people rank preferred colleges later in the process, like UCSC does.
  7. I agree. If they're only going to read two of four written, just have them write 2 and read both. This is weird. The only reason it would make sense is if there are two readers and the other two get passed to the other reader. ETA: Not that I'm saying it has to make sense, lol.
  8. When "UC" stands for UnComplete...
  9. Ds is planning to submit UC apps Friday. The essays are almost done but one of them is in a very different style from the others, so I don't know. Also on Friday, his Nov SAT scores should be in, which will be good data to have. He also took it in Oct but wanted another go just in case and for super scoring.
  10. DH took care of the FAFSA, thank the heavens. He lives on a plane of existence where electronic and online things just work for him even when they're not working for others so we decided he would handle it.
  11. Fingers crossed. It doesn't have to arrive by the 1st, he has to be accepted by the 1st. I'm not thrilled with the way they've worded it; just give a submission deadline! An acceptance deadline is odd to me.
  12. @Roadrunner and @Arcadia DS is also waiting for Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona so you're not alone. He hasn't even gotten emails telling him it could be some time.
  13. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have DS check tonight or tomorrow since he'll be out this evening. He told me he ordered another AP score report this morning for a non-CSU school. That school has a Dec 1 deadline for acceptance to apply for the honors college,so I sure hope it gets there in time.
  14. Yes he listed those under the college coursework section of the application. I guess he could send those transcripts through Parchment right now since those were out year before last and last year. He can send cc transcripts after fall semester is over.
  15. Thank you. DS only started community college DE this fall. (Both of his classes have labs and he didn't want to take classes without the lab component during COVID, when all classes were online.) He did some DE through CLRC for the last 2 years though. Are you saying I should go ahead and send the transcripts from the CLRC DE just in case, and the community college ones once the semester is over? He doesn't have an AA or anything.
  16. Well we had a wild night. Yesterday DS got an email for a school he was planning to apply to anyway, waiving the fee, simplifying the application, and putting him into automatic consideration for scholarships without having to apply separately if he applied by midnight. Huge scramble (unnecessary in my mind, but it's not my process) missed the submission deadline when he couldn't find his ss number, but managed to submit it two minutes late. Super stressful for me. After that I had a hard time sleeping because it sort of awakened my latent fears about this whole process. Wake up this morning after a night of terrible sleep, and he tells me they extended it another day. No wonder it went through last night. But we could have finished it today. Yeah. For those of you doing Cal State, one of them sent an email today asking about our homeschool and wanting a web site. Hmmm. Anyway, DS told them we will send everything in a few days.
  17. Best of luck to anyone submitting tonight or tomorrow. May your items submit smoothly and your acceptances arrive swiftly!
  18. Well I'll join you in stressing about CA and UCs. I haven't gotten the SLO email.
  19. I feel like I'm the last person here who is still working on documents. I've finished the transcript and have a next-to-final counselor letter. I'm still working up the school profile and while I've been writing course descriptions as each class was finished, I haven't gathered them in one document and edited them to have a coherent, smooth voice. Anyone else? ETA: DS isn't doing EA or ED.
  20. My DD needs quite a bit of ankle support and likes Merrells a lot. We buy them at REI but some quick searching tells me they are also at Bass Pro. Seconding the poles.
  21. Yes, sorry I misspoke. We did use the AP scores to cover some of the requirements. I'm not sure why they wanted the SAT scores sent though.
  22. Thanks everyone. Decisions, decisions....
  23. Thanks, he sent them yesterday. He hadn't expected unless he decided to attend because they said the scores (along with AP) can be used for placement only. But the application reminded him to send them right before he submitted. It made me briefly wonder how much they silo those scores from admissions...
  24. DS submitted Cal State yesterday, He applied to multiple schools since he had already done the work, but really think if Cal Poly SLO wasn't on there he probably would have skipped the entire app.
  25. Anyone else's kid filling out too many applications? DS has the Common App, Cal State, UC, and 2 schools that each have their own app.
