  2. I was just looking for a used set (cheap) to buy for my son who will be using core 100 in the fall. My library has them. Do you think using the library will work? I don't have the IG yet (looking for a used one of those too) so I'm not sure how much time is scheduled for each book. I can check out a book for 2 weeks at a time and renew it up to 5 times unless someone places a hold on it. I'd love to use the library if possible to save $$$ but am afraid I will need the book longer or that someone will place a hold...
  3. The website seems to be working but I can't order from them. I'm getting the same error message mentioned in an earlier post. Hopefully it will be back up soon!!
  4. This curriculum is not classical so I'm probably on the wrong message board for my question... but has anyone used A New World Adventure by Learning Adventures? I'm considering it for my 4th and 6th graders in the fall but can't seem to find much info as far as likes/dislikes/pros/cons.
  5. Here are links to the colleges that don't require test scores. Thanks so much for this thread! It has been really helpful for me. http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional http://collegeapps.about.com/od/choosingacollege/tp/great-schools-low-sat-scores.01.htm
  6. Hello. My daughter is a senior and has taken the ACT twice and has been through two prep courses. She scores mid teens... and is totally embarrassed because all of her closest hsling friends have received academic scholarships for the fall. She has decided to go the cosmetology route. Can you share with me some of the great colleges who do not look at scores? Thanks!
  7. I use it for reading comprehension mostly. Plus my boys really like the stories in the books.
  8. Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. I printed your posts out so I can reread them.
  9. Hello. Can anyone give me some advise on teaching 8th/9th graders one day a week in a co-op setting? I will be using "It All Begins with Genesis" for Bible, Trisms: Discovering the Ancient World" for the classical unit study, and IEW and Fix-It Grammar. Biology will be taught by another mom. I have been pouring through the Trisms DAW and Genesis studies and feel like I've wrapped my brain around those. I won't start teaching IEW and Fix-it until I watch the 'Biology mom' teach it the first 3 weeks (I don't feel ready to do it all at once & I want to watch TWSS again). I have no experience in teaching in a classroom setting. I have homeschooled my children for 10 years. The reason I am doing this is two-fold... I need the money so my kids can be in this co-op without breaking the bank and I enjoy studying the ancients myself. So... any tips, advise or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Also, can you think of any good teaching books that are readily available at Barnes & Noble, Mardel, or Lifeway? Meaning: books that help with classroom settings (I have many "how to" homeschooling books.. but no classroom setting books). Thanks so much!!
  10. I've heard of this but how do you do it? We don't have CVS or Rite Aid in AR that I know of, but there is Walgreens. So how can I get free toiletries from Walgreens? Thanks! >>Toiletries - Try doing couponing through CVS, Rite Aid, or Walgreens. I never pay for toiletries any more. For example this month at Rite Aid I've spent $34 and I'll be receiving a check for $48 and a Rite Aid Gift Card for $10. I've gotten a few hundred dollars worth of things at CVS and only paid $5. I'm able to donate a bunch of stuff in addition to not having to pay for things.<<
  11. I voted optional. I've gone twice and enjoyed listening to the speakers and checking out curriculum. I decided the last couple of years to skip it though because it didn't seem worth the 2 hour drive and a weekend away from home. Nowadays so much info is available online.
  12. Can someone post a link to this mailing list? I'd like to join. Thanks.
